Chapter 96: Chapter 96

Beth kept her attention on Liam who stood across the room from her. He was alone, which surprised her. Why wasn’t Veronica sticking to him?

Beth stayed close to her uncle as he talked to his friends and spoke about cars. Throughout the conversation, he would mention her wanting to model. Beth wasn’t confirmed for any work but didn’t mind it since she was occupied looking at Liam.

A few photographers were walking around the party which might have give her a chance to have her photo taken with Liam if she approached him.

"Uncle," Beth tapped Henry’s arm. "I am going to walk around a little bit and talk to some people before we leave."

"Right. I must be boring you. Don’t go too far since we need to leave soon," Henry replied.

Beth left her uncle’s side and went over to where Liam stood. He was surrounded already so she had to wait for her chance to speak to him alone.

Beth wanted to know why he was here without Veronica. Were they having problems already? Beth wouldn’t be surprised if they did since Liam and Veronica weren’t a good match for each other. Liam should have known this from the very beginning.

’Did she get him drunk?’ Beth wondered as to how Veronica managed to get Liam to marry her.

Beth couldn’t help imagining herself beside Liam. It would have made more sense for her to marry him. If only she had been a little earlier with going on arranged dates with him. She just never thought Veronica would be so conniving to go for Liam when no one was looking.

Beth got closer and closer to Liam as the people around him decreased. She smiled when her turn came. "Liam, I didn’t know you would be attending tonight."

"How could you when I don’t announce where I am going?" Liam replied.

Beth ignored his hostility. She was used to him giving her this treatment. "Where is Veronica?"

Beth bit her tongue, trying not to lash out at Liam for not answering her. "She must not be feeling well. I need to visit her because she doesn’t want to see me. What a shame. I love Veronica but it’s hard to be her family. She treats everyone so badly."

"Why did you come next to me and talk about my wife like it would make me have a sudden change of heart? You should save your breath and find someone else to bother. I know the real you," said Liam.

Beth still smiled since this wasn’t enough to make her stop. "You don’t know the real me. You know what Veronica has lied to you and said. She’s twisted a lot of the truth and you haven’t come to me to hear my side."

Liam laughed at Beth saying he needed to hear her side. "Why would I come to you? I’ve seen enough from you since my engagement was announced to know the truth and regardless of whether my wife tells the truth or not, it’s always going to be her word over your word."

’So you’ll just blindly accept everything she says?" Beth asked, annoyed that he would think this way. Veronica wasn’t always right and Beth knew some things Liam would be interested in hearing. "You’re not like I thought since you’re like this. You should have more sense than to blindly trust her."

"Not like you thought? You mean you didn’t believe I love Veronica? Is that it? You need to get it out of your head that she stole me from you. You and I were never anything. I don’t care what my mother or Evelyn was setting up. I love Veronica so you shouldn’t waste your time with childish tricks. Like the one with Nora," Liam said.

Beth knew Nora had to be caught since she was calling her too often. "Nora? Who is Nora? I don’t know what you’re talking about."

"And here I was thinking that your acting had to be good to trick Henry and Evelyn for years but now I know they were just stupid. Something is wrong with you, Beth. Maybe you’re missing something up top or you’re just stupid. Whatever it is, something isn’t right," Liam said and then pulled his phone out of his pocket when it vibrated.

Beth couldn’t keep up her act when he was calling her crazy. "You shouldn’t say things like that. I have problems I am still being treated for from the accident that killed my parents."

"Then what I said wasn’t wrong. There is something wrong with you and instead of being concerned about my marriage, you should be taking care of yourself. Then again, you might be in a confined space soon from now," Liam said, knowing her freedom wouldn’t last long after the message he got from Jerome.

Beth smiled since she had her phone present. "You are threatening to kill me?"

Liam looked up from his phone. "Who said anything about killing you? I don’t know what kind of man you take me for but I don’t go around killing anyone. Don’t smile so much since you think you might have a recording worth posting. I know about your little hobby."

Beth frowned. How much had he heard from Nora? Did that stupid woman not consider how what she said would make her look? Nora was the one willing to go after a married man.

"I am not recording you and if you didn’t mean killing me, what did you mean? I hope you aren’t saying I will end up somewhere with crazy people since I am not crazy. I don’t want to hear you say that again," Beth said, greatly disliking the word crazy.

There wasn’t something wrong with her. She just didn’t like her things taken from her and worst of all from someone like Veronica. She was the one to do all the stealing like with Evelyn and everything else Veronica loved.

"I was talking about you getting arrested. If you have any part in what happened to Veronica, I will not stop until you are placed somewhere you can’t see the sun. Why don’t you post this for your followers to hear? You always have this nervous look when her accident comes up. I wonder why," Liam said and then proceeded to head to the exit.

The party was done for Liam now that Veronica got what she needed from Evelyn. He was stuck in between doing things the legal or illegal way. It was taking too much time to gather evidence and then he didn’t want to sit through listening to Beth or anyone else defend themselves in court.

Liam would rather they just die the same way they tried to kill Veronica.
