Chapter 88: Chapter 88

"You can kiss me as much as you want. You can start now for practice. Don’t," Liam leaned forward to flip her phone so she would not be distracted by the messages that popped up. "No more thinking about anyone else right now."

"I give you an inch and you are quick to take so much more," Veronica said, giving Liam her full attention. If it helped to get his mind off his family then she would gladly continue where they left off at the beach.

Veronica stayed still as Liam took it upon himself to massage her shoulders. She knew it was all a plot to ease her back into kissing him again but she said nothing so she could enjoy his way of seducing her.

They both had a long day with Liam having a lot of annoying moments with having to fire someone and then speaking to his parents.

Veronica laughed when she saw the panic on Liam’s face when he accidentally moved the strap of her vest causing it to slip off her shoulder but he put it back quickly. "It is fine. I’d be more nervous if it was anyone else who never saw my body before. Speaking of that," she turned around to face him again.

"You have a good memory of how I look but I can’t remember anything about you. All I know is how you look when you walk around with your shirt. That’s a little unfair, isn’t it?"

"Are you asking me to strip for you?" Liam asked, already accepting the challenge. "This game isn’t anything new to us."

"I’m a little worried about the things I used to do with you," Veronica mumbled.

It seemed that they were both adventurous people.

Liam leaned down to lift Veronica off the chair she sat on and carried her to the bed.

"Wait, wait, wait," Veronica put her hand on his chest. "You didn’t have to do it."

"I promised to help you remember everything," Liam said, ignoring her trying to take it back. "Why are you so flustered when I am the one who has to get undressed?"

"I didn’t think you would go through with it. Can’t you be a little shy with your body? I was trying to tease you. You!" Veronica looked away when Liam touched his pants.

Liam joined Veronica on the bed, laughing at her reaction. She was so bold a moment ago but now she was trying to avoid his gaze.

Liam trapped Veronica on the bed by placing his hands beside her so she couldn’t make a quick escape. "This is how I know you aren’t trying to lie to me about your memories."

"Stop trying to paint me to be some seductress."

"Oh, I didn’t say that. You just weren’t so shy. I love the old you but this shy side of you is good too. Are you certain you don’t want a good look? To help with your memories of course. Nothing more," Liam smiled, giving off an innocent appearance but his thoughts were anything but innocent.

Veronica wasn’t falling for his trick. This had nothing to do with her memories. Still, she bit her lip, tempted to enjoy the show. She had only seen his bare chest since she returned. "I’m convinced. Let’s see if it will-"

A knock on the bedroom door interrupted the pair.

Veronica looked at the door but Liam quickly turned her to look at him.

"Ignore it," Liam said, lowering himself to kiss her neck. "They will go away when we don’t answer."

Veronica ignored the knock and focused on Liam but it didn’t take long for another knock on the door to be heard.

This time, Edna spoke up to get their attention. "Sorry to disturb you. Benjamin Smith is at the gates to speak to you two."

"Your uncle?" Veronica asked, puzzled as to why he wanted to speak to her as well. She started to sit up. "She must be mistaken. He might only be here to speak to you."

Liam sighed, his dislike of his uncle growing since his timing was awful. "We can ignore him. You don’t have any idea how stupid my uncle can be."

"Well, is he coming to our home when he knows you won’t see him because he’s desperate about something? Your mother leaving must be making him panic. We have all evening to continue what we were doing but we have to think here. If he can’t meet with you, who do you think he will reach out to next?" Veronica asked.

She didn’t want to be dragged into the Smith family affairs more than she already was.

"We should hear him out and the second he says something stupid, we will come back inside. I do want to continue but we should hear people out when they come to us. I rather he speak to you now than come bother me when you are not around. I don’t mind waiting for you here if you think it isn’t safe," Veronica suggested.

Too much was happening for Liam to not have some idea of his uncle’s plans. It was best to hear what Benjamin wanted even if Liam wasn’t going to agree to anything so they knew what Benjamin was up to now that Adeline was leaving.

"You stay here. Do not move an inch. We are not done yet," Liam said, refusing to let the moment die like this.

"I will not move," Veronica promised. "Try not to hurt your uncle. I already see your hand balled up to punch someone. Only hit him if he deserves it."

"Right,’ Liam replied as he walked to the door. When he opened the door, he stumbled open Edna looking worried. "Is he causing a scene outside?"

"I think he might be drunk. I didn’t know whether to call the police or not so I came to you," Edna answered. She did not want to be the one to bring light to Benjamin being drunk.

"I will take care of it. I will call for a car to take you home since it’s getting late. Let me get him out of the way first," Liam said, closing the door behind him since Veronica wasn’t to leave.

It wasn’t a full day yet and already Benjamin was getting drunk. The neighbourhood was quiet but there would still be someone around to record or lingering reporters watching his family for any scandal to be around to capture the moment.

Liam hoped that Benjamin did not drive here while he was drunk but if his uncle was as stupid as Liam remembered, he did drive here. If Benjamin wasn’t careful he might kill someone or hurt himself.

Liam hoped it would be the latter so his grandfather’s plans would crumble even more.
