Chapter 87: Chapter 87

"My mother said yes to meeting her at home. That was fast. I thought she would be a little suspicious of the sudden change and need time to consider it. She must see it as another opportunity to get money," Veronica said, reading the texts one more time since she couldn’t believe how easy it was.

Veronica looked at the mirror to see the reflection of Liam sitting on their bed. Since he returned from speaking to his parents he had been quiet.

Veronica turned around to face him. "Are you alright? You’ve been quiet since you came home. We can talk about what’s going on with you. Sorry if I am bothering you about my mother."

"You’re not bothering me. It’s good that your plans are going well. I put in a good word for Henry to be invited to an event soon so if your mother can get Beth out of the home, you should go that day. What’s wrong?" Liam asked, noticing her grim expression.

"I feel like you are hiding something from me about your visit. You didn’t tell me what happened when you came home. You were lost in thought so I didn’t want to bother you until you were ready but now the silence is bothering me. So, tell me what happened," said Veronica.

"Something surprising happened but then it was followed by disappointment. My mother decided to cut ties with my grandfather and she will be leaving the city for a while to get away from him. My father looked thrilled until it came up that she would be willing to go back to my grandfather if he dropped my uncle and used her instead," Liam revealed.

Veronica frowned since it didn’t sound like Adeline was cutting ties. It was more like she put on a show for the time being and wasted the time of those around her. "So, what did she want to speak to you about? You wouldn’t be happy that she would think of going back."

"She wanted to warn me that he will come after me next. My uncle has to meet with me to take me to see my grandfather. That’s not going to happen. The Smiths are falling apart and it’s more important that we all distance ourselves from them. I was just thinking how much of a headache it would be if my mother goes back to my grandfather," Liam said, knowing they would try to pull him into that mess even further.

"Hmm. If your mother left them for good then your uncle wouldn’t stand a chance but then your grandfather might do something stupid. It’s a messy situation all around. No wonder you were so in your head about it" said Veronica.

Liam nodded his head. "My grandfather needs to be dealt with sooner. His hands are dirty but he’s got the right connections to save his ass. The only saving grace is that many of his friends aren’t happy with Benjamin."

"My uncle messes up a lot and with my mother gone to not clean up behind him, my grandfather would be put in a tough spot. The problem is my mother being so willing to go back. Should I kidnap her and keep her somewhere for a while? She’s already on vacation," Liam said, plotting how he would do it.

Veronica laughed since it was a silly idea to kidnap his mother. "Right and when you are done, you should kidnap my mother so we can interrogate her. We’ll get our answers faster and go back to our normal life minus me knowing everything. Wouldn’t that be good?"

"It would. You should lure your mother out-"

"I was joking like I thought you were joking. Liam," Veronica palmed her face. "I don’t know what time period or movie you think you are in but you cannot go around kidnapping anyone. There are consequences for it and I don’t want to see you behind bars."

"There are only consequences if you get caught and I would just be taking your mother on a vacation with my mother. Offer a lot of money at the end of it and she’ll keep quiet about it," said Liam.

Veronica couldn’t believe what she was hearing. "I’m going to assume that your jokes run long. Just because other people are running around trying to kill and kidnap others doesn’t mean you have to do it too. There has to be another way. Another legal way. It just isn’t worth the risk of you potentially being caught."

They were already watched since many were still curious about what happened to her and then Liam had all this attention on him because of his family name.

Veronica turned back around to look at the mirror. "I don’t want to stoop low to get answers. I would rather leave the city than do that. So, let’s think of another plan that doesn’t involve kidnapping my mother."

Liam got up from the bed to walk over to where Veronica sat. "You didn’t say anything about my mother just now."

"Well, Adeline loves you too much to go to the police about you kidnapping her. She wouldn’t want to ruin both the Sterlings and Smiths by bringing it up. I can’t say the same for my mother. You would have to kill her to keep it a secret and I don’t want you to be that person. I-" Veronica stopped, her voice lost after Liam touched her.

They still needed to continue from where they left off at the beach. Only now had it come to her that she said they would continue when they were home.

"You were saying?" Liam asked, gently moving all of her hair from over her shoulders to rest on her back. Her neck and chest were exposed because of the vest she wore. Liam had thought of buying her a new necklace to wear at times like this.

Veronica forgot what she wanted to say. "Of course, the memory loss continues."

Liam laughed at her response. "Do you at least remember what you told me today?"

"That part is hard to forget especially when you’re having your fun touching my shoulders. I’m not going to take it back now if that’s what you are thinking. I do want us to be close and there have been quite a few times when I want to kiss you. You don’t have to ask to kiss me," said Veronica, wanting him to do it when he felt like it now.

She wanted to be surprised by him suddenly kissing her and pulling her close. Veronica wanted the full experience of Liam being her husband.
