Chapter 85: Chapter 85

"Welcome home. How was today?" Evelyn questioned Beth right as she walked through the door.

She looked forward to hearing about Beth getting closer and closer to her dream of being a model.

Beth wasn’t in the mood to speak about it. "It was like any other day."

Evelyn looked at the bags Beth walked in with. They were all from expensive stores. Unless Beth got a big paycheck the only way she could have gotten the money for this was from her uncle or some kind of boyfriend.

"You did a lot of shopping today. You’ll need to look the part so there’s nothing wrong with a little shopping. I just hope you didn’t spend too much," said Evelyn.

It was always upsetting to see Beth go around spending as much money as she wanted while Evelyn had to ask. It was long overdue that Beth found a job to take care of herself and fund her expensive life.

"It wasn’t a lot of money. I am getting paid for my promotions on social media and I’ll have a lot of modelling jobs coming in. I’ve been too careless about going out to eat with you because now I am too big. It’s annoying," Beth whined, dropping her bags on the floor.

Evelyn didn’t see it as her fault since she didn’t force Beth to eat. "You don’t look like you’re too big. You’re already small. They don’t know what they are talking about."

"No, you don’t know what you are talking about. You think you know this world but you’re an actress no one knows about and I’m too ashamed to search to find out what kind of work you were in. I need the menu for dinner changed to be more healthy," Beth said, having to make changes since Evelyn wasn’t thinking of doing it.

Evelyn couldn’t think about dinner since Beth had just insulted her. She didn’t know what was happening to Beth these days but she didn’t like it. She was an actress no matter how small the role might have been so she knew a lot about the world Beth was trying to get in.

"I don’t care how upset you are about not getting what you want or looking around and seeing people more fit for the part than you are. You do not come in here and insult me. I won’t have it from you or anyone else no matter what kind of bad day you’re having. Understand?" Evelyn asked, furious but she tried to not yell.

"You’re starting to change now that you might get her back in your life. I knew it was coming. You should be careful," Beth warned Evelyn.

Evelyn grabbed Beth’s hand to stop her from leaving. "Again with Veronica. Whenever we speak it has nothing to do with her. This is about how you speak to me. I don’t know what has gotten into you but lately, you are the one who has changed and I don’t like it."

"I’m not your mother but I am the wife of your uncle and this is my home. I deserve some respect even when you are having a bad day. I don’t know why you think I am going to leave you. You need to get that out of your head," said Evelyn.

Beth yanked her hand from Evelyn’s hold. "Right. That’s not going to happen since you gave up your daughter to take care of me. I was just having an off day and I shouldn’t take it out on you. I’m sorry. I’m going to my bedroom now."

Evelyn still felt like they weren’t in a good place and it wasn’t going to be good if Henry found out about it. He was going to blame her for the reason Beth was so moody

"She’s not a child anymore so why do I need to treat her like one? All this for someone who isn’t my child," Evelyn muttered, annoyed with how her life was going now.

At this time in her life, she thought it would be just her and Henry enjoying their life but they were stuck with Beth.

What did she give up for this?

Evelyn ran from being a mother and wife to a man who wasn’t going to give her the life she wanted to be a mother to an ungrateful woman and a wife of a man who didn’t spend money on her as much as she liked.

Evelyn could be in the spotlight here because of Henry but the money wasn’t all the same. She thought Henry would give her both but she was sadly mistaken. All he gave her was a life where it was safe with a little money and attention.

"Should I have stayed?" Evelyn wondered.

The money she could have was worth it but not the danger.

"I need a vacation," Evelyn said, not wanting to do anything drastic. There wasn’t a chance she could go back to her old life. Not with the way she left.

Evelyn became distracted by the sound of her phone going off for a message. She went looking for it to see if it was Henry.

To her surprise, it was an unknown number claiming to be Veronica.

"What does she want?" Evelyn asked herself. She looked up from her phone to Beth’s door. If Beth knew about this she would lose her mind. It would only give her the perfect reason to believe Evelyn was leaving.

Evelyn moved to a more quiet place though Beth wasn’t around to see what she was doing. "Why is she sending me a message?"

This wasn’t like Veronica which made Evelyn think that it was someone pretending to be Veronica. After their last talk, Evelyn couldn’t see Veronica reaching out to her.

"It makes sense. She can’t go on pretending that she hasn’t lost her memories," Evelyn concluded.

Evelyn responded just to see what Veronica wanted. This could work in her favour if she played this right.

Evelyn was surprised again by Veronica wanting to meet and pay a visit to home with just the two of them.

"Here?"

Something was off but Evelyn couldn’t pick out what it was just yet. Why would Veronica want to meet her here instead of anywhere else?

Evelyn could understand Veronica not wanting Beth around since Beth was acting so strange and Veronica was never close to Henry not even seeing him as a stepfather. With how things were going in this home with Beth insulting her when she felt like it and Henry not taking care of her like she deserved to be, Evelyn had to try to get into Veronica’s good graces.
