The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 73
Chapter 73: Chapter 73
Liam parted ways from Jerome who left in search of Nora. He couldn’t control who the employees met up with after work and there were too many to keep track of but the mistake here was Nora potentially being involved in Beth’s lie about an affair.
Liam couldn’t dismiss this as well as Nora’s claims about harassment in the legal team which was very much a lie due to how she went about it. Nora was playing with two serious matters.
Liam greeted the employees who greeted him and went to his office to wait for Nora to be brought to him. In the meantime, Liam tried to think of any instance where he might have led Nora to think he had some kind of interest in her but he couldn’t think of anything.
What was he to think of when he wasn’t looking for love since he already had it?
"I don’t have time for this," Liam muttered, annoyed he had to tell someone not to take part in any plans to mess with his marriage.
It was ridiculous how anyone thought they could spread and get away with such a lie. For Nora to get with Beth and do something like this was stupid when she had more to lose than Beth. Beth was not the one working here and surely Nora didn’t know how quick Beth would be to turn her back on her when this all went to shit.
It was becoming harder day by day to not be like his relatives and stay on the path of doing things the legal way. Most of his problems and Veronica’s would go away if he just took a few people to have them disappear forever.
Liam watched from the desk as Jerome walked before Nora who had files in her hand. She was never the one who had to come to inform him about the state of cases yet she placed herself to do it at times. This might have been the sign he missed.
"Mr Sterling," Nora greeted him with a smile. She thought of bringing in a coffee but considered it to be too much and not her job when Jerome existed.
It came as a surprise for Liam to call her into his office especially when she heard he wouldn’t be at work today. A moment alone to speak to him was always a blessing.
The one thing Nora didn’t like was that Liam didn’t fix the blinds to keep the rest of the office out of their conversation. No one needed to see them speaking.
’Or should they?’ Nora thought. This might have the other women back off and see that there was a little something more between her and Liam compared to how he was with the other employees.
She was picked to attend the charity event twice after all and it was her belief that Liam or someone in his family handpicked the employees themselves.
"I thought you might have called me for an update on the case we’re on so I brought my files to you," Nora said, offering the folder for Liam to take.
Nora became annoyed when Jerome took the folder from her and began to read through the files. She forgot he was still in the room. Why was he still in the room when he had done his part by calling her here for Liam?
"That was for Mr Sterling," said Nora.
"Everything that is handed to the boss goes through me first so his time isn’t wasted. This case is closed as of last night. The legal team informed me last night. You should put this away instead of walking around with it. You weren’t called here for this," Jerome said and set aside the folder since Nora wouldn’t be needing it anymore.
Nora looked to Liam for answers. He was sitting back saying nothing. "What was I called here for?"
Nora now noticed the tension in the room. Something was off and it scared her that she couldn’t guess exactly what it was that she had done wrong. Had Jerome said something to Liam?
"I wanted to talk to you again about the harassment you brought up. Did you speak to someone about it?" Liam asked.
"Oh," Nora said, stuck on how to answer. She thought this was over already. "I did speak to one of my friends and I might have misread his actions. I’m glad I didn’t report him so fast."
"Who did you speak to? I need to check that no one is trying to make you see harassment as something else," Liam said, continuing to pry until Nora would trip over her lies. "We take this very seriously so we can’t just leave it at this. We’ll need to investigate the legal team to be certain."
"But I am certain now that there wasn’t any harassment. If there was I would go through with a report to get him out of the office. So why?" Nora asked not understanding this need to be stuck on this.
She hadn’t spoken to anyone for her story to be straight.
"My concern is that instead of speaking to the women around you or going to report it first, you came to me which makes me feel like you believe this person wouldn’t have been dealt with. Just give me the name for me to keep on record. It’s just so we can keep an eye on them," Liam added after Nora looked afraid.
Nora wanted to laugh at the position she found herself in.
"It is simple."
Hearing Jerome’s voice from behind her only ticked Nora off. He was not the person she wanted to hear from right now.
"This is making me uncomfortable," Nora said in hopes they would send her out. "It is just the two of you and me. I cleared up that it wasn’t something big so why continue?"
"I want to ask why as well. Why can’t you give me a name? Is it because you lied about the harassment? I take harassment very seriously but also fake claims that are done to ruin someone. This isn’t something you can joke about or bring up to hold a conversation with me," said Liam.
Nora bit her tongue. "It wasn’t a lie. I would never lie about something like that when I know the consequences. There is someone who wouldn’t take no for an answer concerning a date and I didn’t like it. I didn’t like his advances. It has stopped now so I don’t want to give his name to put him in trouble."
"I said it would just be to watch him. You’re going to stick to that story. Well then, let’s move on to a different story. What is your role in this affair nonsense from Beth Harper?" Liam asked, noticing the shock on Nora’s face since she didn’t think this would ever come up.
