The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 70
Chapter 70: Chapter 70
"So, I guess no eating out for a while if your parents are going to start showing up where we are?" Veronica asked, trying to make conversation since Liam was quiet on the way home. "I don’t mind it. We had a day of being outside and now I want to go back to eating at home."
"We can eat outside our home anytime you want. I am not worried about my parents showing up so you shouldn’t. I already told you we would have to stay inside forever if we think about them," Liam replied.
"Right, but it’s not only about them. I saw one or two people taking photos of us tonight. I am not used to it like you are so I can do with a little break from it. I’ve seen the kind of woman your mother is but it is still surprising that she is so determined. It’s a bit scary too," Veronica said, finding the family crazy.
"She’s always been that way. We’re home," Liam tried to change the subject, not wanting to speak about his mother.
Veronica took note of him not wanting to talk about his mother and focused on their home instead. There were the usual few cars parked outside which Jerome already revealed to belong to reporters waiting around for something to happen.
Veronica was just as curious as the reporters. If they found something odd about her life, Veronica wanted to read about it.
The car went straight into the garage mostly to avoid their photos being taken.
Liam was in a bad mood and Veronica was stuck trying to think of a good way to put him in a better mood.
’We should have left when I saw them,’ Veronica thought, regretting her choice to stay. It was only because of not wanting Adeline to think she could chase her away each time but it wasn’t worth it.
Veronica got out of the car and looked to Liam’s side. "Are you okay? You’ve been a little down since dinner. Despite the interruption, I thought we had a good dinner or was there something more I didn’t know about?"
Liam sighed. "Nothing happened. I just don’t want to talk about my mother, especially when we are at home. We can talk about this in the morning but not right now. Please."
"Okay," Veronica decided to drop it. Still, she had to think of a way to put him in a better mood so this wouldn’t go on forever.
Veronica decided to head inside first to take a bath and get ready for bed. It was now that she was reminded of Liam sharing the room with her. ’Is he still going to come?’ She wondered.
Would he be so annoyed by his mother that he would miss out on this chance to share a bedroom with her again?
Veronica regretted coming inside first since the house was dark with only light coming from the glass doors to lead outside. She was careful with where she walked, trying to remember where the light switches were.
"Careful," she heard Liam’s voice and felt his hand around her waist. "It’s here."
The lights came on, bringing some relief to Veronica.
She wanted to face Liam but he hadn’t loosened his hold on her waist for her to do so. Veronica tried to look over her shoulder.
Liam’s head was now resting on her shoulder.
"If our talk with them is bothering you, you should tell me so I can do something to help you," said Veronica. She didn’t like feeling useless that she couldn’t help her husband at a time like this.
Liam didn’t respond and instead hugged Veronica. He didn’t need her to say anything now. All he needed was a hug to cleanse him of how annoyed he was by his mother and soon, his grandfather. If not for Veronica, he might have lost his sanity with his family.
Veronica remained still since this seemed to be what Liam needed. She wished he would talk but if this worked for him then she would just be here for him to hold. "We should get ready for bed. We had a long day. Are you still coming to bed with me?"
"Why did you think I wouldn’t? You need to stop asking me. It’s a bit too inviting," said Liam.
Liam let go of Veronica and stepped away from her before he got ahead of himself. There were too many times when he got lost in having her around and forgot that she didn’t have her memories.
"You can go up to get ready for bed first. I’ll take a shower down here and check my emails before I come up," Liam said, giving her the time she needed.
"Okay. Come when you are ready," Veronica said and then made her way up the stairs.
There was no denying it that she started to feel something for her husband which was strange to think about. She was doing the reverse. Others had feelings first and then got married but she was already married and starting to have feelings for the man downstairs.
She didn’t know if the love she felt which made her marry him in the first place was still there or if she was just falling in love with Liam again. It was wonderful to think that the love never went anywhere even with her memories gone.
It made sense to Veronica as there were some people she looked at and hated right away. Why she didn’t dislike Beth or her mother right away was a mystery.
Veronica entered her bedroom and leaned back on the door. Again, it was a simple thing to do which was to share a bed with her husband yet it made her so anxious.
Veronica wanted to slap herself. Liam had to be very cool about it yet she was in her head about it. "Just come back now," Veronica pleaded, needing her memories back. Then her world would be normal again. "That’s never going to happen."
It was just the beginning but so far the people who claimed they had the miracle of getting back someone’s memories all sounded like a scam. It was all up to her body to do the miracle and bring her memories but at this rate, she was never going to perform that miracle.
If life was simple without any dangers from the people around her and Lian, Veronica was open to not getting her memories back. It didn’t sound so bad to fall in love with her husband again. It was scary at first but now that she got to know Liam better, Veronica enjoyed the married life she woke up to.
After taking a shower, Veronica was stuck again after overthinking what she would wear to bed. There were things in her closet the first day when she came home that she never wanted to look at again as they didn’t hide what they were for. There were other nighties which Veronica thought were too short but they would be perfect not to be too hot.
Veronica knew Liam wasn’t expecting anything yet she was still overthinking what she would wear to bed that wouldn’t suggest they would do more than sleeping.
Veronica pulled out one of the nighties, deciding to put it on and get in bed before Liam came up. She could cover herself with the bedsheet before he came.
"I’m going to look so silly when he comes," she muttered.
Liam must have thrown on anything to wear to bed and if he knew how long it took her to pick the nightie, he might have laughed at her. Veronica was certain he would laugh at her and tonight she wouldn’t mind it since Liam needed to be cheered up.
If it took making a fool of herself to make Liam go back to enjoying the good day they had then Veronica would gladly do it.
Veronica went to bed to wait for Liam. She turned on the TV to have something to keep her up while she waited for him.
It was nearly an hour since she got into bed when Liam arrived dressed in long pants and no shirt. Veronica wanted to look away but she was unable to. Was it wrong to look when this was her husband?
Everyone around her was paying close attention to Liam so she should too.
"Enjoying the view?" Liam asked as he closed the door behind him. "It’s a little unfair for you to be staring while you’re all wrapped up. Cold?"
"A little bit," Veronica lied.
"Hmm. Then I should make it hotter-"
"No!’ Veronica exclaimed. "Leave it as it is."
"You’re not a good liar to me, Veronica. If you have to cover up that much, I can go back to the guest room," said Liam.
"You don’t need to. It’s not like you haven’t seen anything. Right? We’re not a couple that, you know," Veronica trailed off for Liam to finish.
Of all the things Veronica assumed this was the most interesting for Liam. "That doesn’t have sex? No, we weren’t. After this long, why wouldn’t we? I have seen you but don’t worry, I’m just here to sleep and I was under the impression that was all you planned to do."
"It is," Veronica replied.
"Then, no need to be so shy."
