The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 100
Chapter 100: Chapter 100
Liam entered the home and searched for Veronica. He came across Edna first who wasn’t as welcoming as she usually was since she still felt guilty about what she did with his mother. Veronica wasn’t thinking of firing Edna so all that was left was for Edna to get over her guilt so everything could go back to normal.
Liam made his way upstairs to where Veronica had to be. She might be glued to her phone for the next couple of days since there was a lot for her to see.
Just like he thought, Liam found Veronica sitting on their bed with her phone in her hand. She was so busy swiping through it that she didn’t notice he arrived.
Liam contemplated standing at the door to see how long it would take for her to realise he had come home. The view of her lounging on their bed was worth standing around for.
A few minutes passed by without his presence notice.
"Find anything good?" Liam asked to get her attention.
Veronica gasped, startled by Liam’s voice. "Oh. When did you get home and how long have you been standing there?"
Veronica was puzzled by how she missed the door opening.`Was she so absorbed with her phone that she wasn’t paying attention to her surroundings? "If you were a robber, I would have been captured and tied up. How was the party? Did Henry or Beth approach you?"
"Beth did. I told you from the start that there’s something wrong with her. I mentioned the phone to her. She is still being tailed so I want to see where she runs to. Now is the time to see where she goes when she panics. I don’t see her as smart enough to harm you alone. What about your mother?" Liam asked, curious about how the talk went.
Veronica stood up, setting the phone to the side. "I don’t think she’s involved but she has a hard time believing Beth could be involved. I don’t want to see her again. Not for a planned dinner, a setup to get answers out of her or for a party. There’s only so little time I can listen to her pick Beth."
She continued, "Maybe I got through all of this already but being back at square one, it hurts sometimes to see that she doesn’t care about me. Maybe if she listened to me, she would pay more attention to how Beth is not so innocent. I know how Beth might have got my phone. Look," she turned around to pick up the phone.
"A lot of messages were deleted but for some reason, I was leaving notes in my phone for what I was doing. Like I was leaving behind a trail for you if something happened to me. I must have thought it would be easy for you to get my phone. I had to meet with Beth on the same day of my accident. I thought I had to meet with Adeline from the email I saw," said Veronica.
Liam checked the date Veronica had written in her notes. It was a step-by-step plan to make it easy for him to retrace her steps. She knew she was going to get caught up in something. "You were looking for your father. My grandfather came to see you?"
"I wish I could answer what for but I don’t know. I’ve not seen him since I woke up. Not even at the charity event when all your family was there since we left when they were going on the stage. He hasn’t reached out to me yet," said Veronica.
"He wouldn’t give anything away about what he said to you even if I visited him. My uncle would have said something to win me over if he knew about the two of you meeting or maybe he thought I already knew. This puts us in a better place than before. I’ll look into my grandfather’s whereabouts around that time," Liam shared with Veronica.
He first suspected his mother along with the Harpers but his grandfather was one to do these kinds of things. It wouldn’t be the first time he created an accident for someone who didn’t fit his plans. It was just luck that Veronica survived.
"So, it was either all Beth, danger from looking into my father, or maybe it’s your grandfather. I’m still wary of your mother. She might go to that length for you to find the perfect wife. If it’s Beth, we need to hope that she panics and reveals something else. I don’t know what to do about my father,’ Veronica said, feeling stuck concerning him.
"I did find the picture Edna mentioned of the restaurant. It was somewhere out of town and it would take over seven to get there if we drove. It’s very close to where my mother lived before Henry. I was in detective mode," Veronica said, impressed by her skills.
"You were a secretive detective who wrote these things like you knew something would happen to you and you wanted me to solve it for you. You could have just told me," Liam said, once again bothered by her past secrets. "I will need to go through this carefully. Beth might have deleted a lot of the chats about her."
Veronica felt guilty for leaving him out of her plans. She was too independent, leaving Liam in the dark about what she had gotten herself involved with. If she could turn back time, Veronica would tell Liam about everything.
He was silent now, most likely to not bring up again how he didn’t like she didn’t tell him.
"I’m sorry," Veronica apologised.
"It’s fine. You right now didn’t even know what you were doing so I am not angry with you. It is just upsetting. I don’t want to get into it now," Liam replied. He could only hope that going forward she would tell him everything and so far, that seemed to be the case.
Liam always knew Veronica loved to do everything by herself since she was used to taking care of herself and even after showing that he would help her with what she needed, she didn’t like relying on him. Nothing was going to make Veronica completely change when it came to accepting help.
"Still, I wanted to say sorry because it looks like you are hurt by it. I’m going to tell you about every danger I face now so you don’t need to worry about me keeping secrets. Can you at least give me a second chance at not keeping secrets from you? We can do a reset on it. Promise me," Veronica stuck out her pinky for the promise.
Liam shook his head at the childish action but still did it. "The reset started with your memory loss but sure. Let’s promise."
