Things became a lot more troublesome with the addition of multiple more factors. However, Yang Chen was still confident in his victory.

"As long as they rely on the Dark Ghost, I can turn the tables on them" He muttered to himself before looking at the corpse lying next to his feet.

Lai Zemin, the soldier leader and a Three Star Battle Overlord. The guy would have provided a decent amount of experience for him to level up. Alas, he was killed by the special dark ghost.

"Well, I can at least go after the appetisers".

With [Boundless Nature Eyes] activated, he could see the running soldiers. The special dark ghost was one thing; however, he could not let even a single soldier live. Especially after he displayed his strength and skills to them.

And so, tracking them one by one, Yang Chen disposed of them for the remainder of the night. By the time the next day arrived, he was almost finished with his task.

"Eight Star Battle Grandmaster" He stretched his body. This was far from the level he was expecting. That said, something was better than nothing. He was still steadily progressing forward.

By the time he returned back to their campsite, the two girls were up and had finished consolidating their cultivation.

Yang Chen noted, looking a little shocked at Tang Xun’er. This girl was a cultivation genius whose talent was something that even he was envious of. She did not have a supreme system like him, yet with purely her talent and genius, she was giving him a run for his money.

Somewhere deep inside the Night Wind Forest, within an enclosed cave, sat a middle aged man with a balding head and wearing green robes. Next to him was a cauldron burning with green flames.

As his hand moved and he threw disturbing looking items into the cauldron, eerie screams and sounds reverberated throughout the cave. Suddenly, black smoke billowed from the cauldron, and it erupted with a bang.

"Another failure huh?" The middle aged slowly opened his eyes and stood up.

"I got distracted. It seems like I can’t focus without taking out that enemy first. But to think they would be able to take out so many Dark Ghosts. It looks like they are aware of its weakness. Interesting, who is this person? Could it be that same disciple from the Academy? If so, then it will be our rematch. I wonder how that brat has improved over the years".

He laughed before placing his attention back on the cauldron "The lives of the villagers around here are not enough. I need more sacrifice to refine this pill".

As it turns out, the man was also an alchemist. The latter took out the content from the cauldron using his soul energy and threw it outside the cave and into the cage where the special Dark Ghost was kept confined.

GROAWLL... a nerve wrecking growl sounded out and the contents were quickly devoured by the entity.

"Kakaka... Eat and grow stronger" Seeing this scene, the middle aged man laughed.

Another couple of days passed by as Yang Chen and the group travelled through the forest. During these past few days, they met more groups of soldiers from Blackthorn who were after them.

There were quite a few soldiers. However, none as strong as Lai Zemin. As such, they were able to quickly defeat them.

By now, the enemy was completely aware of their presence inside the forest and sent numerous groups after them. Finally, after a few days of constant fighting and hiding, they were able to reach the border of the Night Wind Forest.

Beyond the mountains and over the cliff was a vast wasteland, the territory of the Blackthorn Empire. Fortunately, Yang Chen and the others didn’t have to go that far, the enemy’s main camp was right in front of their sight.

"These people, do they not care about being found by the soldiers of Tianyun Empire at all?" Tang Xun’er spoke, exasperated by what she saw.

Right in front of her eyes at the base of a mountain, the enemy had set up their camp, as if they did not care about anyone finding them.

"Well, they did have the infernal hounds and the dark ghosts with them. As such, they did not need to fear anyone finding out about their actions or possible leaks".

Any practitioner unfortunate enough to have entered the forest must have all been killed before they even knew what was going on. The only reason they were able to come this far was because of Amon and the system that had helped in every step of the way.

Using the marker to tag a soldier, he was quickly able to locate the base of the enemy.

"Yang Chen, what do we do from here?"

Lin Huiyin questioned. There were far too many enemies for them to take out with their own strength. Now that they knew what was going on inside the Night Wind Forest and the Blackthorn’s invasion, it would be rational to go back and report it to the elders back in the academy.

Yang Chen thought for a while before coming up with a plan. Since this was a quest given to him by the old man who strictly told him to only come back after clearing it, he was reluctant to just back away at this point.

Bringing the information back could also be counted as clearing the quest. However, this was not his style, his modus operandi. He wanted to thwart the plans of the enemy before beating a retreat.
