Eyes all nailed on the target, they all saw the massive old structure slowly begin to tremble.

It was not only the monolith but the entire plaza that was shaking as an unknown force passed through the ground.

That said, the trembling of the ground and the glyphs on the stone lighting up weren’t the only changes the crowd was paying attention to. The ancient monolith itself was also going through some changes as it seemed to absorb the coral light coming off from the solar eclipse.

At this moment, the eclipse had also reached its peak. All the murmuring in the plaza stopped and the entire place descended into a pin drop silence.

Unknowingly, everyone held their breaths, not daring to even breathe at this crucial moment. And then, in a breathtaking display of power and much excitement of the crowd, the barrier that had long encased the monolith began to fluctuate and waver.

Its surface which was otherwise impenetrable, started shimmering as it quickly lost all colour. Then as if unable to support the entire area of the huge monolith, the barrier started weakening in certain places.

Rifts appeared in those areas where the barrier collapsed, providing glimpses of what lay beyond.

"The barrier is weakened, charge!!"

It was unknown who said it; however, once that voice sounded out, it was as if the horn for the war had been blown, and everybody started charging towards the ancient monolith.

At this moment, their greed had even taken over their fear of the influential clans that were closest to the monolith. In their mind, all that mattered was getting inside the ancient sect.

The plaza contained the entire population of the desert ruins and people who came from faraway places were lured by the allure of the ancient sect. Even if taking the lowest estimate, the people gathered here would be more than thirty thousand.

One could imagine the effect when thirty thousand and more people roused their battle energy and charged towards the monolith.

Each of their energy coalesced together to create an extremely frightening and berserk energy that took on the form of a tidal wave. In front of that current, even the usually haughty and overbearing influential clans, didn’t dare to stand in their path and simply allowed them to pass through and charge over towards the monolith.

What surprised Yang Chen was the fact that the members of the influential clans just stood around without trying to compete in the race to enter the ancient sect.

"Everybody is charging let us go too," Tang Xun’er beckoned. She looked like she was raring to go on an adventure.

Yang Chen was momentarily unsure, feeling something amiss. Just as he was about to nod his head, Yun’s voice sounded in their ears.

"Wait, don’t charge yet. The huge monolith hides the ancient sect inside. Even if the barrier has weakened, this is a sect from the ancient times we are talking about. How could it be so easy for just anyone to enter?"

"There must be another layer of mechanism protecting the sect. Just wait and watch, these people will be our guinea pigs. I’m sure the people from those clans up ahead are also waiting for that. Only enter once you see them entering"

Yun’s words made sense, given how these people have acted up until now and occupied the areas close to the monolith as if trying to tell everyone what their status was, it was unlikely of them to not act now that the thing they were waiting for finally opened up.

Yang Chen and Tang Xun’er nodded their heads. This girl usually acted willy nilly; however, when it came to Yun telling her something, she became quite obedient.

As told, the two of them like those members of the influential clan, waited in their place as they watched the sea of people dive into the many rifts that formed in the areas where the barrier weakened.

Just as it seemed like these thirty thousand people would enter through those rifts, The next second, in front of Yang Chen’s and Tang Xun’er’s stunned eyes, these people were pushed back by a terrifying force so strong, that compared to it the coagulated auras of more thirty thousand people releasing their battle energy felt like a pebble in front of lake.

All that their tide like charging energy managed was creating some slight ripple in that force.

"Impossible!!"

Unable to accept that they were still unable to enter the ancient sect which was right near their sight, they were blinded by greed and started forcing their way in. A mistake they wouldn’t even have time to regret.

The ancient sect had its own rules and laws, forcing one’s way in was an extremely foolish choice. When these many people tried to force their way in, they triggered the wrath of the mechanism.

BOOM... with a deafening roar, the rifts erupted in a cataclysmic explosion of raw, unrestrained power, like a volcano erupting in a violent crescendo. The sheer force of the blast sent shockwaves rippling through the crowd, tossing bodies like ragdolls amidst a tempest of chaos and destruction.

In an instant, the air was filled with the cacophony of screams and cries, mingling with the sickening sound of bones crunching and flesh tearing.

What occurred next could only be described as a nightmare.

Far in the distance, two figures stood frozen in horror, their eyes wide with disbelief as they beheld the absolute annihilation that had unfolded before them.

"This... " Yang Chen opened and closed his mouth, his throat dry and unable to come up with any words. He had seen all kinds of war scenes in games and movies in his previous life.

However, the scene that was playing out in front of him where bodies fell from the sky, bloodied and in pieces, their lifeless forms sprawled haphazardly like discarded dolls. Blood ran in rivulets down the cobbled streets, painting the ground a sickly shade of crimson.
