Chapter 219: Chapter 219- Abilities that shock the crowd

The elder named Du, continued to keep his eyes closed in silence as if everything happening in the hall had nothing to do with him. Like a monk practising Ascetism, he was as unmoving as a rock.

However, if anybody thought the elder didn’t pay attention to the exam, they would be gravely mistaken. After all, Elder Du here was one of the two branch elders of the association along with the patriarch of the song clan.

In terms of influence, he was even a bit higher than the latter, being one of the countable Tier 4 alchemists in the Yan province and even in the entire Tianyun empire.

It may look like he was keeping his eyes closed and meditating in silence, but underneath that façade, powerful soul energy ripples exuded out of his body and covered the entire hall.

Every movement and action made by the participants, down to their slightest activity, didn’t escape his notice. Being a tier 4 alchemist, it wasn’t a difficult task for Elder Du to keep track of all of their actions with his soul energy.

"You keep looking at the participant from your clan, but I don’t think he will pass this time either" Finally, Elder Du opened his mouth and spoke.

"Although he is getting many of the processes right, there is still too much discord and ambiguity in that person’s mind. To refine a pill successfully, one not only needs to know every process and detail about the pill, but their mind and body should be in harmony for it to be a success. Even if he somehow refines a pill, its purity will barely be enough to call it a Tier 1 pill. Song Ming, that nephew of yours is not suited to become an Alchemist"...

"I understand where Elder Du is coming from, he has failed the Tier 1 alchemist exam nine consecutive times after all. However, that nephew of mine is quite persistent both in mind and body. Don’t you think that not just anyone can fail so many times and still continue to give their all to become an Alchemist? I’m sure that he will produce a pill that can satisfy Elder Du’s standard"

Song Ming spoke with a forced smile. He had leaked the pill recipe to his nephew by putting his position as Tier 2 Alchemist in the Alchemist Association in line. If even after this, if they cannot successfully refine a good pill, they would be shaming him and his whole clan.

Elder Du looked at Song Ming with some suspicion and doubt in his eyes.

"We will see. I don’t know how he is able to get so many steps right so far, but I’m telling you now that I will not pass him if the case is the former. Even if it means nobody will pass the exam this year, so be it. Hmm?".

Suddenly, the old elder’s eyes was attracted towards the table next to Song Zhen’s. This was one of the tables that he had been paying close attention to ever since the other party walked in.

However, when he saw that the participant was just sitting around and observing others without any intention to refine the pill, Elder Du lost interest.

He even lamented on the fact that he got his hopes up for a moment. Among the twenty or so people who came inside the hall, he was the only one who was a fresh face.

The participant was a young man who seemed to be around fourteen or fifteen years old. He stuck out like a sore thumb among all the midde aged participants.

It’s not that there has never been any alchemist as young as him in history, in fact there have been cases of people becoming alchemists at an age even younger than the young man in front of him.

However, all of those cases were as rare as Phoenix Wings and have never occurred in their Yan city branch.

Finally, today in his long years of life, he saw a young man walk in. He naturally became expectant. However, how could it be so easy for a young alchemist to appear just like that?

He of all people knew that very well. Alchemists didn’t just grow on trees, they had to be carefully raised, trained and cultivated from a young age. And even then, it depended on the aptitude and gift of the person.

Finding someone like that was like finding a gem in a sea of stones. This was why, Elder Du didn’t want to raise his hopes up for the second time.

When he saw the young man move, he only spared the latter a cursory glance. However, as fate had it, as soon as the young man started the refining process, it was like some magic was at work, pulling his attention towards it.

It was not only Edelr Du, even Song Ming was captivated by those masterful skills, which had reached the realm of perfection.

Whoosh... Blue flames came to life as Yang Chen invoked his [Great Napalm Command] which was on the verge of reaching the perfect completion stage.

As soon as those flames materialised, all eyes shifted towards him including the two elders administering the exam. Needless to say, he was the youth who had been taking it easy and lazing around the exam hall while all the other participants tried their best to refine a pill.

Over on the spectator stand, a young girl wearing a resplendent purple dress, could be seen seated on one of the seats, observing the whole exam.

Initially, when she saw the exam starting, she was filled with excitement, thinking that she would get to see some exciting techniques and skills of the alchemist of the yan city.

However, when she saw the level that these uncles were actually in and the numerous silly mistakes they made trying to refine a mere tier 1 pill, she was disappointed to say no less.

Deciding that there was nothing here for her to watch, she was just about to get up and leave, when suddenly she was attracted by the bright blue flames that suddenly erupted from one of the tables of the participants.
