Chapter 174: Chapter 174- Onwards To Fallen Mountain Range (2)
Yang Chen nodded his head readily, in any case it was a good thing to have a few life saving tricks up his sleeve.
After a while as the city began to awaken, bustling activity carried with them a torrent of disbelief and shock. News of the Zhang clan’s ruin spread like wildfire, igniting conversations in every corner of the cloud city.
It was as if the very foundation of the city had trembled under the weight of this revelation. Whispers permeated every corner of the city, speculation running rampant as citizens and cultivators alike attempted to piece together the puzzle of the Zhang clan’s abrupt fall.
Nobody knew how a formidable clan like the Zhang clan became a ruin overnight.
Amidst the confusion, the other prominent clans could not sit still after learning about the news of the Zhang clan. Clan leaders dispatched their most skilled spies, members, and scouts to discreetly observe the remnants of the clan’s domain.
The landscape bore the scars of an unseen battle. Even the Lin and Xiao clans, the two most prominent clans, dispatched their members and even personally visited the site.
Standing amidst the wreckage, they beheld the once-mighty Zhang clan’s domain now reduced to ruin. Everybody had the same confused expression, nobody could fathom what transpired here.
The Zhang clan’s fall was like a riddle that nobody could solve. Many people made their theories, conjectures were woven from the tiniest threads of information. Yet, the truth remained a phantom, a spectre that seemed to revel in its elusiveness.
Nobody could have guessed that it was the doing of a young man whose age did not even exceed fourteen.
As days passed by, the story of the Zhang clan’s fall would forever be intertwined with the cloud city’s history, a tale that would forever remain in the veils of mystery.
Though by the time all of this happened, Yang Chen had already left the perimeters of the city and was riding on a caravan to the mist city.
Similar to the Cloud City, the Mist City was one of the moderately famous places in the Yan province. Governed by the Liu Clan who were the tyrant clan of that city.
"Liu clan huh, I remember them also participating in the entrance test. One of their participants seemed to have made it through the final selection and got admitted into the academy" Simon muttered to himself hearing the name Liu clan.
"What else can you tell me about the mist city?"
The question was asked to a passenger that sat next to him in the caravan. Since he was going to the Mist city, it was better to know about the place beforehand.
"I already told you everything brother, there is nothing much to know about Mist City. It is not as big and populated as the Cloud City and since it is quite far from the Star Fall jungle, hunters rarely come to the city with their wares"
"The only reason it is booming is because it is crucial a juncture that one must stop in if one is travelling to the yan city" the passenger answered while rubbing his palms, his intentions were clear.
Yang Chen nonchalantly tossed him a silver profound stone in exchange for the information. Having robbed the treasury of the Zhang clan, he had plenty of money and treasures. Even if he splurged them like this, he wouldn’t have any shortage of them for the time being that is.
"So is the special place you were talking about in the Mist City?" Yang Chen asked.
Amon had told him that there was a perfect place for him to train his strength and enjoy his vacation between Yan City and the Cloud city.
"No, the place we are going is adjacent to the mist city, the Fallen Mountain Range".
"I see, what kind of place is that?"...
"It is a place that all carriages and people travelling to Yan City, avoid at all costs. Those who venture inside the Fallen Mountain Range never return. However, it is the perfect place for you to train in after all, it is the hideout of the bandits" Amon answered with a wicked grin.
So it was a place filled with bandits, no wonder all the carriages and people never venture there. If you are someone who values their life, you ought to avoid the area.
It also made sense why the Mist City became the crucial juncture for all the carriages travelling to Yan City even though it meant they would have to go in a roundabout way and travel more distance.
After all, one’s life was precious to everyone, what was a few more days of travel compared to it?
Fallen Mountain Range, because of being a perilous place, it evoked dread and fear in everyone. However, to Yang Chen the emotions these words generated were different.
When he heard what Amon had to say, an interested expression crossed his face. So what if the place was a hideout of the bandits? Isn’t it also a place where one can commit crimes however they wish?
For Yang Chen, they provided a perfect opportunity, a place of potential growth and challenges.
He arched his brows and smiled just like the demon next to him. He finally understood why Amon told him it was the perfect place for him to grow. After all, if it was here, he could freely...
The notion intrigued him and Yang Chen couldn’t wait to dive into the Fallen Mountain Range and confront the bandits.
The carriage continued to travel at a steady pace and soon by the afternoon of the next day, they arrived at the Mist City. Lines of people and carriages waited outside the gate, waiting for the guards to allow them in.
However, unlike the other passengers who lined up in the queue, Yang Chen made his way towards the dark mountains lit up by the red hue of the evening sun. Of course, those who saw him head towards the wild mountains gave him all sorts of looks.
However, he was already used to such stares and besides it wasn’t his first time.
