Despite his indifferent exterior, Yang Chen couldn’t help but notice the complex feelings that lingered inside her eyes. After what Amon said to him earlier, He was aware that Lin Huiyin held feelings for him, but the weight of those words only added to his confusion.

Yang Chen scratched his head, his thoughts turmoil as he struggled to find the right words at this moment. He had spent most of his life inside the hospital, as such he didn’t know how to interact with a girl around his age.

The life he had led up until now left him socially inexperienced and detached. In the end, he could only come up with a little crude way of interacting with her.

With a subtle nod, he acknowledged her gratitude.

"Don’t mention it. Even without me you could have defeated them. The only reason they managed to overwhelm you is because they joined hands. Otherwise..."

However, Lin Huiyin shook her head "Even if that was the case, the reality was that I was defeated. Without your intervention we would have died... so thank you".

The girl was cold and noble, stubborn to bone and extremely talented. Very few people had actually seen her show a weak side. However, even she knew how to thank a benefactor.

The air between them grew slightly awkward as the weight of unspoken words hung heavily. Not wanting to dwell on this topic, Yang Chen decided to focus on the immediate task at hand.

Not wanting to be stared at like that, Yang Chen walked past her and found a quiet place to sit.

Just like Lin Huiyin had said, it didn’t take long for the carriage from the Lin clan to come. At the first signs of dawn, he could see a few carriages racing through the distant and swiftly approaching their location.

Yang Chen noticed the presence of multiple guards and elders from the Lin clan who had come to escort them back to Cloud City.

As expected of the Lin Clan, now that they were aware that the Zhang clan was targeting them, they came up with a force that even the tyrant clan of the Cloud City couldn’t ignore.

After the carriages came to a stop, the elders and the guards of the Lin clan, quickly got down and supported the wounded Lin Mang and checked on Lin Huiyin.

After seeing that both of them were safe, they exchanged relieved expressions, grateful that the two of them were alive. The journey back to Cloud City was a peaceful one with no interruption in between.

There were three carriages that came to escort them back. Yang Chen sat on the second carriage with the other members of the Lin clan while Lin Mang who was injured, was travelling in the first carriage.

It was alright up until here, but there was one problem, namely Lin Huiyin. This girl for some was actively engaging in initiating a conversation with him.

Of course, it was not like Yan Chen did not like the company of a beautiful girl, he was a male after all. However, the problem was the glares that were directed towards him by the other passengers of the carriage.

The elders who came to escort their young miss back were staring daggers at him after seeing how close she was towards him.

’Sigh’ And so, while enduring the painful gazes of the others around, they finally reached the cloud city.

Lin Huiyin approached him after all of them got down near the gate of the city.

Yang Chen thought for a second before shaking his head. He knew that the Lin clan would surely take good care of him after all the things he had done for them. However, he had things that he had to do, things that would only hinder him if he was associated with the Lin clan anymore.

And besides, Yang Chen wasn’t going to stay in the cloud city for much longer. Given the fact he still had one month before he needed to go to the academy, he planned to roam the place, go to different cities and experience all kinds of things.

Something that had always been his dream in his previous life.

And so, Yang Chen turned down Lin Huiyin’s proposal and started walking away. He just took a few steps ahead when he found his clothes being tugged from behind. Lin Huyin was clutching his clothes in her hand.

"Yang Chen... will I see you again?" she asked, her eyes held many emotions and were pleading him.

’Was what Amon said really true? Does this girl really have feelings for me?’ Seeing that kind of Lin Huiyin whose current attitude was completely different from the first impression he had of her, Yang Chen couldn’t help but wonder. One was like a subdued coy kitten while the other a wild cat.

"I told you so" Amon quipped lazily floating around him.

Feelings, for Yang Chen, they were a foreign emotions After losing his parents at a young age and having spent half of his life inside the hospital, to cope with the constant challenges, he had developed emotional walls as a defence mechanism, to shield himself from overwhelming emotions.

His dastardly relatives also played a large role in all of this. Because of this, he had grown accustomed to relying on himself and being alone.

Yang Chen couldn’t fully accept or understand her feelings at this moment, nevertheless, he still turned around and reassured her.
