Chapter 80: Is It Freedom Or Is It Just A Different Devil?
Rama’s face remained neutral, she wasnt expecting to be freed anytime soon or ever, it was an impossible feat that was deemed inconceivable to happen.
"Go on, it won’t be long before I come after you. I like a hunt anyway, especially when my prey starts to run." Draco drawled with a low growl, crimson eyes gleaming with unrestrained darkness, portraying how guttural his hunt was.
Rama was taken aback by his confusing remark, her brows furrowed in disarray as she watched the corner of his lips curve up with a daunting smile, his predatory gaze fixated on her before he exited the library, leaving her standing frozen.
She veered around when she heard the library door creak open with Damien walking in, a charming smile garnished on his face as he approached her with steady footsteps.
"Let’s go." He said.
But, she didn’t move an inch, rather she kept staring at him questioningly as she stood frozen in position, demanding an explanation.
"The deal, remember?" He said.
She tilted her head to the side, she was aware of the deal, but slightly confused if Draco had let her go or not, regarding his remark earlier.
"We should leave now, its quite a distance." Damien said in a neutral tone, gesturing for her to move, but her movements were restrained as she hesitated.
"He wouldn’t let me go that easily." She muttered under her breath, shaking her head softly in negation.
"Don’t think too highly of yourself, you’re nothing but a toy to him." Damien said, shoving his hand into his pocket, gaze fixated on her as he waited for her to move with a bored look.
She knew Draco wouldn’t let her go so easily, but as Damien had said, she meant nothing to him, she was only a toy he wanted to hunt for games and sadistic pleasure.
"How did..." She trailed off, drowning in an abyss of bafflement.
"You should have educated yourself about the night creatures, when striking a deal with one, you have to fulfill it or I’ll have to drain you dry, so Draco had no choice anyway but to let you go, he didn’t want you to die yet because he wasn’t done torturing you." Damien explained with an exasperated sigh as he leaned against a shelf lazily.
She was wary of him, but it was a chance to finally be freed from Draco and also, she didn’t want to be drained dry by Damien.
Even though Damien didn’t seem like he would, the fact that Draco let her go just to keep her alive for more torture made her extremely cautious of him.
"And Malika?" She queried, making sure he didn’t forget about his promise to take her along, she’d rather get drained than leave her alone in the castle.
"She’s in the carriage, waiting." Damien said and before she could stem another word, Damien veered around, proceeding to exit the library.
She scurried behind him, not saying anymore as they exited the castle to meet a carriage waiting at the entrance. Damien emerged into the carriage, followed by Rama.
She halted at the foot of the carriage, as she felt a pair of dark eyes on her.
She whipped her face back to catch a glimpse of Draco peering his sinful gaze at her between velvet curtains, a devilish smirk adorning his face, eyes glinting darkly before he disappeared behind the curtains.
She swallowed softly, remembering the every word that rolled off his lips at the library. He wasn’t letting her go, he was hunting her.
She inhaled deeply before emerging into the carriage. Malika’s eyes widened the moment Rama entered the carriage, her stiffened demeanour suddenly turning cheerful as her eyes met hers, suddenly forgetting about the presence of Damien.
"Rama!" She exclaimed, as she sat next to her, face lighting up with a smile, but she immediately regained her composure when her gaze traveled to lord Damien who was staring at them both intently.
"I thought you couldn’t speak." He muttered dryly as the carriage started moving.
Rama wondered why he couldn’t wait for dawn to break before they started their journey, she wondered what the rush was.
Malika lowered her face timidly, the rest of the journey went on in silence as they left the castle, delving deeper into the darkest depths of the forest.
The girls succumbed into slumber as the journey persisted throughout the rest of the night, although it was slightly uncomfortable as it was a bumpy carriage ride.
Dawn broke as the sun peeked out of the clouds, enacting its golden glow below, streaks of light penetrated through the curtains, making the girls lashes flutter as they woke up from sleep.
"We’re here." Damien announced as the girls regained their composure, while he hurdled out of the carriage.
The girls exchanged glances before stepping out of the carriage, the presence of the grand mansion coming into their view.
The girls stared in awe, although it wasn’t as grand nor luxurious as the castle, it was too exquisite and grand for a single inhabitant, it was more exquisite than any house she had encountered.
The vampire lord’s mansion stood imposingly, its dark stone walls seeming to absorb the sunlight.
An air of foreboding hung over the place, enhanced by the scent of damp earth and the distant sound of wolves howling in the surrounding forest.
Cold winds rustle through the overgrown, gnarled trees that line the property, their leaves whispering secrets of ancient power.
As they entered, the air grew thick with a mixture of aged wood, mustiness, and the faint aroma of incense.
Torches lined the corridor, casting flickering shadows that dance across the rich, velvet tapestries that adorn the walls.
Underfoot, the plush carpets cushion each step, muffling sound and giving a sense of luxuriousness.
A faint, haunting melody wafts from somewhere deeper within, accompanied by the distant echoes of dripping water, adding an eerie undertone.
The main hall beckoned with a grand fireplace, crackling and releasing waves of warmth and the scent of burning oak.
Deep, ornate furniture upholstered in deep reds and purples provide seating, the leather cool to the touch.
A polished marble statue stood in the corner, the chill emanating from it in stark contrast to the rest of the room. Delicate whispers of silk curtains stir in the faint breeze, carrying the fragrant notes of lavender and rose mixed with a heavy spicy scent.
Venturing further, the dining area emanates the aroma of a sumptuous feast. The long, oak table is laden with platters of rich meats, cheeses, and exotic fruits.
The sound of silverware against plates harmonizes with the laughter of unseen guests, an illusion created by her mind.
Deep within the mansion, a hidden chamber emanates the scent of ancient tomes and herbs, mixing with the sensation of cool, aged stone under your fingertips.
Throughout the mansion, a sense of controlled power lingers, palpable even in the air she breathe. The subtle, underlying scent of iron hints at the lord’s supernatural origins, blending seamlessly with the enchanting, dark allure of his luxurious abode.
The girls followed quietly, wondering aimlessly behind the vampire lord as he led them to the dining room.
They salivated as the exquisite aroma waft into their nostrils, gnawing at the beast laid within their bellies to be fed.
"Someone will show you your rooms when you’re done eating, its been a long journey." Damien said with a charming smile, as he gestured for them to take a seat, before exiting the dining room.
As soon as the door shut close, Malika hurried to the table, taking a seat as she served food on the expensive silver plate, but she halted, as she spared Rama a glance with a mischievous smile.
"Go on and eat, I’m famished also." Rama said as she moved lazily and took a seat beside her, while Malika happily stuffed her face with food.
"Are we going to be his maids or his guests? He seems nice, I have a feeling I’ll like it here and it doesn’t seem like there’s much people here, we didn’t come across any maid." Malika rambled in between eating.
"Is it freedom or is it just a different devil?" Rama muttered dryly as she ate, while Malika stared at her, chewing slowly as she gulped the food down before speaking.
"He seems like a nice person." Malika said.
Rama knew he was better in contrast to Draco, but Draco’s words kept ringing in her ears, drowning any form of hope that seemed to linger in her.
"Don’t be fooled, Malika, even in the night creatures world filled with nothing but darkness, how can you still see the light?" Rama stated dryly as she stabbed a piece of meat with a fork before shoving it in her mouth, as she savoured the juicy taste of the meat with a satisfied moan.
"At least there’s food." Malika said, earning a hearty chuckle from both of them that resonated in the dining room as they ate.
