The Devil's Warrior Queen -
Chapter 48: In Love With My Rival? No!
Chapter 48: In Love With My Rival? No!
Rama was hit with speechlessnes as she stood pinned to the ground dumbstruck by his remark as her brain tried to process his absurd words into her head.
Her lashes fluttered as she opened and closed her mouth like a fish in other to defended herself against the ludicrous accusation.
"I-I..." She stuttered, unable to find the right words and she saw a sinister grin tear across his lips.
"Cat’s got your tongue?" Draco said in a mock filled tone and she scoffed in disbelief.
"You must have been so lonely to believe that you’re capable of someone showing love towards you and from me?" She squeaked with a high pitch. Her voice was rather blunt and low as she stared at him with an unfeeling expression on her face.
In love with her rival? No bloody way!
"The only man I’d ever loved and still love is the man you killed." Rama said firmly with a sharp tone. Every second spent, her eyelids became heavier and her exhausted limbs just wanted to rest.
"The spineless werewolf king." He drawled thoughtfully with a sarcastic smirk on his lips and she soon realized he was merely annoying her.
"Even though you’re a human, I wouldn’t have imagined the fierce warrior queen to settle for the spineless werewolf king." Draco said in a lazy tone as he ran his tongue over the sharp tip of his elongated canines.
"He’s not spineless. He would have gotten rid of the other vampires. I don’t know what you are but I know you’re not just a vampire, but something else." Rama’s voice became lower when she made the last statement and his eyes glinted with amusement as a grin appeared on his lips.
"What makes you think I’m not a vampire?" Draco queried with the devilish grin still plastered on his face, which made him look even more eerie.
"You are a vampire, but something else. Your red eyes are darker, you’re stronger and immortal." She pointed out, trying to keep her eyes open. She wanted the conversation to end as quickly as possible but it just kept escalating which made her even more weary.
"I’m a pure bred. It’s only plausible that I possess those things you mentioned." Draco suddenly said with a bored expression and she pressed her thoughts on it.
Unfortunately, he was right or was he? She pondered as she knew there was something not quite right about him, something very perceptible felt out of place with him unlike the other vampires.
"What about lord Zamiel and Damien?" She queried. She was exhausted but she found her curiosity getting the better of her.
"They are pure breds, half." Draco replied her question and she nodded thoughtfully. His eyes narrowed to the drops of water dripping from her drenched clothes to form a small puddle of water on the marble floor and his brows creased at the sight.
"Change your clothes. You’re spilling water on the floor." Draco ordered with a hard tone and she bowed slightly before proceeding toward the door. Finally she was free.
"And where are you going to?" Draco’s cold voice made her halt in her scurrying movements and she suddenly veered around, wondering what on earth she had done wrong again.
"To..change like you ordered." She said in an awkward tone with an innocent look on her face.
"I have a bathing room, change in there." Draco ordered and her lashes fluttered in numerous times as she gaped at him with slightly widened eyes.
"Uhm, I have no dry clothes to change into. So I’ll change in the maid’s bathing quarters." Rama pointed out.
"I’ll order a maid to bring you dry clothes." Draco stated in nonchalance and she wanted to argue more but she swallowed back the argument. All she wanted to do was get out of the wet clothes, wear dry ones and then take a long nap.
But she couldn’t help but wonder why he was being nice out of the blue which she rather found suspiciously wrong. Her thoughts were abruptly disrupted from Draco’s baritone voice that echoed in her ears with the ambiance of darkness.
"Nice? I’m only taking precautions so you don’t try to evade me through death, so from now onwards you’ll be staying in my chambers, so I can keep an eye on you in case you try something outrageous again. I can never figure out what’s going on in that twisted brain of yours." Draco remarked and she gasped in shock.
"What? Stay in your chambers? And I’m not twisted. Also, how can you say you don’t know what’s going on in my head when you’re literally in my head everytime." She snapped with a loud voice in stupefaction.
"Yes, you’re staying in my chambers from now on and yes you’re twisted and yes, I don’t know what’s going in your mind. I can read your thoughts but I can’t delve deeper into your emotions." Draco remarked and she ran her fingers through her wet raven black hair with a sigh of exasperation.
"I definitely won’t try to kill myself again, in fact I regret the choice I made. I realised I had a lot to live for." Rama said in a delicate manner with a solemn countenance.
"Alot to live for? Like what?" Draco asked in disbelief.
"Like Malika and I haven’t spilled your blood yet, it seems like the seers forgot to mention me as one of your enemies who’s trying to spill your blood." Rama spouted out a snarky reply, making her delicate manner fade to be replaced with bitterness.
A short chuckle erupted from Draco’s lips.
"Rama, the feisty princess. You never seize to amaze me with your twisted personality." Draco said in a flat tone.
"Hmm, what can I say, I have a knack for amazing people." Rama bragged with a high chin as she shrugged on her shoulders, not giving a care in the world that she was talking to the vampire king.
Their gazes locked and she saw an unfathomable glint flash in his crimson eyes as he looked at her for a second, but he quickly averted his gaze as he moved to the window with his back facing against her.
"Change your clothes, you’re spilling water on my marble floor." He ordered in a hard tone and she silently went into the bathing chamber.
She shut the door close and hurriedly stripped the wet clothes from her body while stealing a glance at the door in every second. His next move couldn’t quite be predicted and nothing would be stopping him from shamelessly barging into the bathing chamber.
Her eyes darted to the large tub filled to the brim with warm water and steamy mist erupting on the surface of the water.
She quickly immersed her naked self into the warm water and her body relaxed as the biting cold was abruptly replaced with the soothing warmth. She dipped her head into the water and washed her hair with the liquid shampoo and scrubbed herself clean with the scented oils.
After all, he told her to change in the bathroom which in her perspective meant taking a bath.
She soaked herself in the warm water and her mind randomly traveled to his awkward behaviour earlier.
She had seen an unfamiliar glint in his eyes that she had never noticed before and for a split moment, there was a flicker of warmth in them but it was suddenly replaced with a cold, empty darkness as if he relived a nostalgic memory which she figured was connected to whatever dark secret that transpired in his past, but how was she connected to his dark past and why on earth did she suddenly trigger it? She pondered.
She figured she triggered his dark past because she had never seen that unfathomable glint in his eyes. It retained a tormenting pain, and emotions that couldn’t quite be deciphered by her which made her wonder what on earth he went through.
If he didn’t lose his Empire, then what did he lose?
The door suddenly shot open and she figured it was the maid who had come to give her dry clothes.
"Thank yo..." Rama veered around and her statement broke as her jade eyes widened in shock.
She pressed her knees against her chest and crossed her arms over it as her eyes narrowed to Draco occupying the bathing chamber with dry clothes in his hold.
"It’s not the first time in seeing a naked woman, you know?" Draco said lazily as he dropped the clothes in his hold on the table, while she followed his movements cautiously with her eyes.
"What are you doing here? I know you’re not a gentleman but at least have some shame. A little bit of manner won’t hurt." Rama snapped with gritted teeth as she shot him daggers.
"I have no shame or manners, I was never taught the etiquette of a gentleman. They made me the monster I am, so why should I apologise for the monster I’ve become?" Draco said with a sarcastic smirk as he peered his eyes on her which made her cheeks burn with anger and embarrassment as she moved in the water with unease.
"There’s not much difference between I and your lover. He’s a monster as much as I am." Draco added in and her brows creased.
"He’s not. He never hurt the innocent or used his power on the inferior." Rama snapped and his grin widened.
"He’s a werewolf Rama. He feeds on flesh and the flesh of humans are their best delicacy. Both kingdoms were close by, right? Ever wondered what happened to the missing people in your kingdom?" Draco queried and without waiting for her reply, he exited the bathing chamber.
True, their kingdoms were close by and random cases of missing persons were reported in their kingdom, but they had never suspected the werewolf kingdom since they were allies. She came to a conclusion that he was lying. That’s what the devil did after all, they spouted lies and induced mayhem.
But the what ifs in her head echoed continuously.
