Chapter 44: Saved To Be Tortured

Chapter 44: Saved To Be Tortured

"Why would they try to attack you when you’re immortal? Don’t they know?" Rama muttered beneath her breath thoughtfully, completely unaware of his presence, as she was lost in her thoughts, trying to make sense of what was happening, as she was also piqued and angry since she was almost killed by Draco’s enemies.

"They know I’m immortal, but they ignore that fact and test their experiments on me." Draco replied in a flat tone, he seemed unaffected but she saw his jaws tick, but she was smart enough to know the attack wasn’t the reason for his annoyance, but something else.

"Experiments? They’re making the creatures?" She queried, forgetting her place in the moment of curiosity. Draco shot her a subtle glare and she pressed her lips shut in silence.

"They’re trying to distract me from their actual plans. I’ll have to investigate sooner or later and you’ll accompany me with my research." Draco started with a sarcastic smirk and her brows lifted.

"Me? Accompany you?" She shrieked in disbelief. Him leaving for his investigation would mean a few hours without being with him or presumably a few days, but now she was stuck with him. He derived sole pleasure in torturing her with his presence.

It was evident he had only saved her to torture her.

"Yes you, in case I need bait." Draco replied blankly as he gave her a lazy stare.

"Bait?" She repeated after him with a scoff.

"Why do you repeat after everything I say, are you deaf?" A hint of irritation now coated his voice, but it disappeared as quickly as it came.

"But for now, I’ll let them have fun for a while. It’s much more satisfying to crush them when they feel they’re at the verge of victory, just like I crushed you." Draco drawled darkly as he peered his crimson gaze at her.

She felt her blood boil in rage, but she quickly averted her gaze from his to prevent herself from doing something regrettable.

"Let’s go. It’s getting dark, the nighttime isn’t exactly favourable to humans. If you don’t get ripped apart by feral creatures, you’ll get poisoned by a snake or toxic plants." Draco said with a sarcastic grin tearing across his lips, but she stood unmoving as she watched his retreating figure instead.

"Keep standing there, I’ll personally enjoy your screams when you’re getting torn to shreds by wild animals." Draco uttered darkly with his back facing her, as he continued to walk away from her into the forest without sparing her a glance.

Her fists clenched itself in a tight ball till her knocked turned white, her jade eyes flared up and she imagined plunging a dagger into his back, giving him a taste of the pain he enjoyed inflicting on her people.

She gritted her teeth in anger and her face twisted in a scowl knowing she couldn’t do it, but she hoped badly that one day she’d be able to do it and when she did, it would be the first genuine smile on her face after losing everything, but for that to happen she had to survive, so she scurried behind him.

"Keep dreaming feisty princess, it won’t happen unfortunately. I’ll still win, I’ll always win." Draco said and she realised he was reading her mind.

"Get out of my head, you shouldn’t be there without permission." She snapped as she moved behind him while burning holes into his back with her scorching gaze.

"Kings don’t take orders from maids, haven’t you learned anything?" Draco taunted, still he didn’t spare her a glance as he continued moving down a lonely path as they emerged out of the fog.

As he had said, it was nighttime already and the forest was eerily silent as the dim silver hue of the moonlight basked them, the midnight breeze blew past them with a soft gust, making the trees flail.

"King or not, it’s not right to read people’s mind just because you have the power to do so, but it’s my fault for expecting more from you, you obviously exploit your dark powers for sadistic pleasure, so why should I except any less?" Rama queried rhetorically with a scoff.

He halted in his movements and her heart pace elevated, dreading the fact that she had angered him and now, he would rip her apart and leave her disfigured corpse in the forest. She shook away the silly thoughts in her head.

"You’re not far from the truth actually. It crossed my mind once or twice all because you can’t control that mouth of yours." Draco remarked as he veered around to look at her as he moved forward, till she was cornered between a large tree and his towering figure.

The moonlight enacted it’s dim light on him, but still his form blended with the darkness, making his aura heavier and more darker than usual. His face darkened and she couldn’t tell if it was from the darkness or his anger.

She swallowed deeply as she clutched a handful of her dress when his face lowered to meet hers. He locked his dark crimson eyes on her, captivating her soul like a magnetic pull, making her unable to look away from the darkness encompassing his eyes like an endless chasm.

"You’re right. You shouldn’t expect any less from me than my true nature. I was born from darkness itself, so why would you expect me to retain even the flicker of light in me. Isn’t it ironic for a dark creature as myself to be good?" His voice was in a whisper in a low dangerous tone as he peered his cold gaze into hers, retaining not a flicker of warmth in them. They were as cold as ice and as unfeeling as a rock.

She wondered if really he didn’t feel anything, not even a whiff of emotion? Was he really a souless creatures evoked from darkness itself? She pondered.

Rama knew that something had provoked his darkness to fully engulf him, he had killed his parents and it seemed as if dark memories from his past haunted him. The seers knew about it and presumably, Zamiel, his right hand man.

In a split moment, she felt empathy for him, but she quickly shoved it at the back of her mind, reminding herself that he was a monster and the cause of her plight. He didn’t deserve her pity.

"You’re right. I’m the last being you should be showing pity towards. Humans don’t pity demons, they fear them." Draco uttered between gritted teeth.

"You don’t deserve my pity or anyone else’s and that is why you’ll spend the rest of your eternity living in your lonely dark shell, with nothing to live for and no one to live for you and then, you’ll realise your eternal life is meaningless and the only reason you’re causing people pain is because you’re in pain." Rama snapped with an unwavering gaze and she saw his red eyes spark with a malicious glint.

"And what do you know about pain? Why the hell do you think I’m in pain? You know nothing about me, so stop acting smart!" A thunderous growl reverberated beneath his lips as his body trembled with burning rage and his jaws ticked.

Her spine tingled in fear as his growl resonated in the forest, making the cold air freeze her in position. She shut her eyes tightly, she knew she had provoked him by reminding him of whatever made him go through so much pain, she wondered the hell he was trapped in and what caused it.

She knew she had ticked him off, this time she had crossed the limit, so she’d continue taunting him and make him go through the pain he made her go through, even though it was just a taste she’d give to him.

"You always taunted me with my predicament, but when I do the same and remind you of the hell you’ll be forever trapped in, you act like you have it worse, when it’s the other way around." Rama spouted out and his hand flew to her neck with a tight grasp that made her wheeze painfully as she struggled for air to go through her lungs.

"You’re a lesser, inferior human, you don’t know what the hell pain feels like, unless you feel it physically. You think losing your empire is pain, then you have no idea what the real battle in the fucking world looks like." Draco enunciated on every word leaving his lips, but everything came as muffled words to her as all she could think about was getting air into her constricted lungs.

Her eyes teared up as he tightened his grip on her neck and she had no doubt that she would die in his hand at that moment, although her only regret was leaving Malika behind with the night creatures.

Her eyelids felt heavy and she felt her soul departing from her body and just as soon as her eyes were shutting close, Draco withdrew his hand and she rubbed her neck as she sucked in heavy huffs of air into her lungs while coughing as she fell on her knees.

She cleaned the tears that had dropped on her cheeks subconsciously and looked up to see a sinister smirk on Draco’s lips.

"Did you really think I’d kill you and let you escape so soon?" He queried sarcastically.

"Have you forgotten I’m not that kind? I only saved you to torture you and you only die when I tell you to die. I control your life and death, Rama and your little sharp mouth isn’t enough to make me kill you, yet." He added in as his eyes glinted drearily.
