The Creatures That We Are -
Chapter 1290: Warm Up
Chapter 1290: Warm Up
A massive, mutated mosasaur burning with black flames emerged from thin air and swallowed Nana. It seemed to have been hiding in the veil of the universe, awaiting Raven Shark’s order. Even Raven Shark was shocked by the terrifying creature he had summoned. He couldn’t believe Sea King could do that.
At that moment, they gained a deeper understanding of what having their wishes come true entailed.
When they plugged themselves into the core of the Workshop of Truth, they gained everything like God. Their battle was no longer a simple clash of energy, but a fight of souls, thoughts, wills, logics, concepts, laws, emotions, and imaginations. It was the clash of totalities.
It all happened so quickly. The mosasaur that had swallowed Nana vanished from their sight before it could return to the void. Slick, scorching, boiling waves crashed into them from all sides. No one could tell how Nana did it, but they were suddenly inside the mosasaur’s stomach—she made it so that they were the ones swallowed instead.
Qing Ling unsheathed her Tang Dao, making her most powerful cross-cut without needing any time to actually charge.
Avoiding her companions perfectly, slashes crackling with currents split to add another cross at a 45-degree angle. Then it was further divided into hundreds of fierce electric slashes like a pale flower blooming in the universe.
The mosasaur was torn into nothingness.
Before they could let out a sigh of relief, they realized something was wrong. The cuts Qing Ling had made turned into cutting lines through space itself after a one-second delay. The massive space they occupied turned into an irregular Rubik’s cube. It exploded into numerous cubes of isolated space, scattering them in separate trajectories. If nothing was done, they would fly along each trajectory forever.
But they halted all of a sudden. White energy strands had emerged to connect the cubes. They whooshed toward their starting position, pulling the cubes of time and space back to their original state, as if God had pressed the rewind button.
Hong Xiaoxiao had used Gamer, the wish-granting version.
In an instant, they were back in the mosasaur’s stomach. Nana’s voice sounded in the air. It reached everyone as a thought, not so much heard but sensed.
“Localized pause.”
They were put on pause before they could react, while the mosasaur’s digestive juices and the flames continued to sweep toward all of them. They were like the subjects in an ignited photo, about to be burned away.
“Cheating!”
Liao Liao, despite being put on pause, suddenly lifted her gun-wielding hand, pulling the trigger like she was destroying the very frame of the photo. Hundreds of bullets broke the suspension around them, freeing the frozen time and space and liberating them.
“Fire.”
Gao Yang raised his hand, and a great pillar rose and expanded, automatically bypassing all his companions while devouring and burning everything else like a circular tsunami of flames.
“Phantom.”
Hong Xiaoxiao’s shadow connected to that of her companions. The next second, the shadow enveloped them and brought them to the second-dimensional space, transporting them between the shadow cast by the fire and making their movement impossible to track.
“Tracking.”
Vermilion Bird was about to use her Talent when a girl’s blue figure appeared amid the fire. It split into tens of thousands of duplicates before they could target her. The duplicates spread across the sea of flames, rendering Tracking obsolete.
“Wave of Serenity.”
White energy rippled out from the phantom jumping between shadows. It took the shape of a giant sphere that expanded and swallowed up the blue figures.
“Simplify.”
Gao Yang applied the Talent to his Wave of Serenity. One by one, the blue figures exploded into blue energy droplets like water balloons. It took only seconds for all the figures to explode.
The blue droplets quickly converged to form an impossibly large Nana. She stepped on the sea of fire, dwarfing it and making it look like nothing but a small candlefire, and Gao Yang and his companions were merely ants hiding within the fire.
The giant foot stopped right above the fire. She had forgotten what she was doing, her memory stolen temporarily by Dr. Jia.
Flying out of the sea of fire, Wang Zikai shot to the giant Nana in a flash of gold. Right hand clenched into fist and left hand holding onto his right wrist, Wang Zikai aimed at Nana’s forehead like he was going to shoot down the tallest mountain range in the universe.
“Grim Reaper’s Spear.”
Two intertwining lines of crimson light shot out of the back of his right hand. In the form of light, his crimson bone stings became wide like the Milky Way. They pierced through the giant’s forehead and stretched infinitely beyond like the spine of the universe.
Skull pierced, Nana toppled backward. But she clutched onto the crimson Milky Way like the rope in a tug of war, and with a yank, Wang Zikai was pulled to her.
It painted an absurd picture. A giant at the scale of a celestial body held onto a blinding red rope, yet the other end of the rope was held by an ant countless times smaller.
“Aghhhh—”
Wang Zikai hadn’t screamed out loud, of course, but his mental voice had echoed in the universe.
Gao Yang appeared right behind Wang Zikai. He had just used Flash Shadow at an impossible range, and he locked onto his target with no time limit. He tracked Wang Zikai’s movement like the afterimage he left a second before.
“Go.”
Gao Yang’s mental voice said.
Wang Zikai grinned. Instead of resisting the pull, he accelerated his plunge toward Nana.
Countless Chains of Fate emerged to grapple the giant. Some melted into flowing light, swirling around Nana to identify the lines of the golden ratio on her body. Her weak point was on her left chest.
“Fire Punch.”
A pair of burning wings at the scale of stars unfurled from Gao Yang’s back. They filled the space within everyone’s sight, drowning Gao Yang’s figure out. Then, in an instant, the universe became infinitely vast once more; the wing had vanished.
The tremendous energy was compressed into a small red dot—the fist of a nineteen-year-old young man in the universe.
Bam!
Gao Yang’s fist slammed into Wang Zikai’s back.
Wang Zikai’s blond hair became radiant light, and his eyes flickered in gold. He smirked, having used Left Hand of God to catch the heaven-breaking Fire Punch. He made a swing at the giant with a power hundreds of times greater.
The punch landed without fanfare. There was no explosive sound or even a trail of fire. But a massive fist print had lodged deep into Nana’s left chest.
The universe went silent. Souls seemed to have forgotten their language. Nana exploded silently. Radiant flames and twisted energy ripples devoured all, intertwined all, and embraced all, like the Big Bang that had created the universe.
