The Creatures That We Are -
Chapter 1289: You
Chapter 1289: You
The revelation silenced everyone. They felt like adventurers carefully moving along a narrow ledge on the bluff, but still ended up falling into a great storm in the valley. The stunned silence stretched on.
Dr. Jia took a deep breath and launched into an explanation in an almost reverent tone, “God is in dual state, or God turned Themself that, which gave birth to the Heavenly Way and the Gluttonous Snake, as well as God’s line of sight—Nana.”
“But...why?” Hong Xiaoxiao asked.
“Because there has to be an observer to collapse the dual state.”
“You mean that...” Gregor began to wrap his mind around Dr. Jia’s explanation. “God divide Themself, observe Themself, and confirm Themself.”
“Yes, that is my conclusion.” Dr. Jia turned to Nana for confirmation. The others followed.
Nana broke into a noncommittal smile. Slowly, she raised a hand and said, “Order.” Then she raised her other hand. “Limbo.”
“Creation.” “Destruction.”
“Eternity.” “Moment.”
“Infinity.” “Limit.”
“True.” “False.”
“Question.” “Answer.”
“Existence.” “Passing.”
“Meaning.” “Nothingness.”
“Heavenly Way.” “Gluttonous Snake.”
“Head.” “Tail.”
Nana pulled back her hands and stacked them on her chest. “I.”
Then she reached out like she was embracing them. “You.”
They still felt as if they were wandering aimlessly without support in the storm.
After a long, drawn-out moment of silence, Vermilion Bird asked in a slightly trembling voice, “Why... would God do this?”
“There’s no reason. God does not have a goal.” Nana spoke plainly. “Goal is a human game.”
“What about you?” Vermilion Bird asked.
“I’m only a line of sight. I observe all, expecting no particular ending and waiting for no visitors. You were the ones to open the Gates and find me.”
She sat back down on the swivel chair and crossed her legs, behaving like the irreverent, unkempt girl once more. “So let me ask you the question. Why did you come to see me?”
Silence.
Gao Yang was the one to answer the question.
“I want humans to continue to exist.”
Nana snapped her fingers. “Simply put, you want Heavenly Way to win.”
“Yes.”
“But must humans exist?” Nana cocked her head. “Perhaps humans are God’s projections, too. And just like my projections, they’ll know that it’s better for them to return to me.”
“Nana thinks it’s better, but Nainai preferred not to vanish,” Gao Yang said. “How can you say for certain that Nana is right, and Nainai isn’t?”
“Right.” Nana shrugged. “But I don’t have a say in granting your request.”
“Then show me the one who can make the decision,” Gao Yang said.
Nana sighed. “You still don’t get it, Gao Yang...”
A flash of golden light exploded in the air. Wang Zikai shot toward Nana like an unstoppable golden bullet. Yet Nana stopped him, freezing him when his fist was a meter from her with a simple glance.
A second later, explosive golden energy surged behind her, cutting through the dim, grey cosmos and turning into a golden river of stardust.
“Tsk, unimaginative brute.” Nana sent Wang Zikai flying with a lift of her hand. He flipped and landed by Gao Yang’s side.
He clenched his fists, irritated. “You dare to kick me out of the group chat? Got a death wish?”
“Hm...” Nana clasped her hands together before flipping them, raising her arms above her head while standing on her toes, leisurely stretching her body.
“You’ve come all the way here. It would be anticlimactic not to fight a boss. Alright. I’ll kindly play the bad guy.”
She extended a finger. “Friendly reminder, I’m no more powerful than you are. I can be killed. Here, we’re all infinitely close to God. We can have everything but also nothing. If you think fighting is the answer, do your best and kill me.”
She raised a hand. “Let’s get started.”
