Chapter 1267: Solving the Problem
“Why are you looking at me?” Wang Zikai huffed. “I’m God. What does this place have to do with me?”
They looked away and hid their embarrassment. Why would they be foolish enough to expect Wang Zikai to give them any clue? They turned to White Dew instead.
“I might have been born here,” White Dew said, “but I don’t remember anything.”
Their eyes shifted to Gao Yang.
“I’ve dreamed of this place a few times,” Gao Yang said calmly. “In the dreams, I was a butterfly and witnessed the birth of three life monsters. I’ve told you everything about the dreams.”
“Can Gao Yang’s dreams be the question of the room?” Gregor proposed tentatively.
“Then what can the answer be?” Liao Liao asked.
Gregor gave it a few seconds before lighting a cigarette and flicking the lighter closed. “Dunno.”
Zhang Wei rolled his eyes. He side-eyed White Dew. “Maybe your ex-life boyfriend was messing with us and trying to trap us here.”
“No.” Chen Ying shook her head. “Were that the case, there would be no reason for him to show himself.”
“Not necessarily,” Dr. Jia said. “If we made up our minds and sacrificed Gao Yang to open the Gates and return, he wouldn’t be able to keep us...”
Wang Zikai was immediately behind Dr. Jia, his arm hooked around the man’s throat. “If you dare to bring that up again, I’ll rip your head off!”
“Ahem...no, not going back... I was just saying...”
“Don’t bring it up at all!” Wang Zikai growled. “Don’t even think about it!”
“Won’t say it...won’t think about it...” Dr. Jia didn’t want to die here when they were so close to the truth of the universe.
“Calm down,” Gregor said, plopping himself down on the ground. “Since time is infinite here, we can think about it carefully. Sooner or later, we’ll find enough clues.”
“Yeah.” Adept Horse scanned the room. “And maybe something else may happen.”
Gao Yang agreed. He conjured another Absolute Barrier with a wave of his hand to shield everyone.
They sat in a circle with their legs crossed. Another talk around the bonfire commenced. Everyone shared their ideas and guesses. After a while, Liao Liao realized something.
“Wait, Cerulean Dog said that there are seven rooms, and the owner is waiting for us in the very last.”
“So?” Zhang Wei asked.
“So we’re in the first room.”
“So you’re just stating the obvious,” Zhang Wei huffed out sarcastically.
Instead of getting to the explanation immediately, Liao Liao turned to the distant white wall and started with the basics, “According to Dr. Jia’s speculation, the white wall represents the world under the rule of the Heavenly Way. That is where humans inhabit. We came from the other side of the white wall through the Gates of Closure.”
“Go on.” Vermilion Bird was catching on.
“In Cerulean Dog’s eyes, the world of the Heavenly Way may be a room, too, which would make that the first room. We moved from the first room to the second one.”
“Holy!” Zhang Wei sucked in a breath.
“Interesting,” Dr. Jia murmured.
Eyes bright, Liao Liao continued, “Can it be that we’ve found the question and answer of the first room by opening the Gates of Closure, thus leading us to the Black and White Corridor and meeting Cerulean Dog?”
Everyone listened with rapt attention.
Liao Liao licked her lips. “Based on Dr. Jia’s speculation, this corridor was the first battleground of the Heavenly Way and the Gluttonous Snake. But perhaps in Cerulean Dog’s eyes, this is the second room.”
“If we succeed in finding the question and answer to this room and open another door, thus entering the third room, where would that be?”
They fell into contemplation.
One by one, they looked up at the infinitely tall and long black wall.
Zhang Wei’s eyes widened. “Can the third room...be the Gluttonous Snake’s territory?”
“Yeah, think about it based on common sense,” Liao Liao said. “The two gods started out fighting here. The Heavenly Way lost ground and retreated to the white wall, meaning our world. Now, we’ve organized a team of elites and fought our way back here. Then it makes sense that we should be advancing to the black wall, doesn’t it?”
“That...makes sense,” Zhang Wei said.
“Haha, we’re just brainstorming,” Liao Liao responded humbly. “I hope it’ll help us identify the question and find the answer.”
When it seemed like Liao Liao’s speculation would lead them to a solution, Gao Yang disproved it: “Gluttonous Snake’s territory may be one room, but it won’t be a room we’re going to.”
“Why?” Zhang Wei had already given up on thinking. That made life much easier for him.
Gao Yang turned to the black wall and said, “You’ve forgotten that the world of the Gluttonous Snake is one where humans do not exist. Humans can’t reach a world like that, because the moment they enter it, the world will no longer be one where they don’t exist.”
“Ugh, again. Can we not talk about that?” Zhang Wei yanked his hair in despair. “It’s so contradictory. My head is gonna explode.”
“Zhang Wei!” Gregor jumped to his feet. “What did you just say? Say that again!”
“I said...”
“Contradictory!” Gregor repeated it eagerly. He couldn’t wait for Zhang Wei to repeat his whole line.
The others turned to him.
“Everyone!” Gregor said excitedly. “The question is ‘contradiction’!”
