Chapter 86: Chapter 84: The Emergence of Superpowers
"Hmm, sleep a little longer," he said.
Su Mo nodded and found a comfortable position in his embrace to sleep.
When she awoke again, she was lying alone on the floor, with a set of brand-new T-shirt and pants beside her; she changed into them and walked out from behind the shelves.
"Miss," Su Niang had been sitting outside, and she called out in surprise when she saw Su Mo emerge.
"Su Niang," Su Mo hugged her, "I scared you, didn’t I?"
"Not at all, it’s good that you’re unharmed," Su Niang patted her hand, her eyes brimming with hot tears.
"Sit here for a while; I’ll go outside and have a look," Su Mo comforted her with a pat.
The temperature outside had finally cooled down, with the breeze bringing a hint of chill.
She rubbed her eyes, feeling something was amiss; as she looked into the distance, her pupils constricted. She could clearly see the black raindrops on the big tree over five hundred meters away, down to the details of the leaves’ veins and the shape of the water droplets, as if they had been magnified countless times before her eyes.
She withdrew her gaze, extended her hands, and stared at them dumbfounded; her vision had become incredibly sharp—was this the effect of a superpower?
Lu Chen sat in the driver’s seat, surrounded by Li Qian and the others.
As soon as Zhao Changsheng saw her come out, he immediately ran over to give her a bear hug, his bulky body causing pain in Su Mo’s chest.
She quickly covered her chest and glared at his chest, "Keep your distance! What if you break something?"
"Momo," Zhao Changsheng blinked at her with an aggrieved look, his affectionate gaze making her tremble.
Lu Chen got off the car and took a jacket to wrap around Su Mo, "Awake?"
Jianxiong greeted her with a joyful face, "Sister is awake!"
Su Mo nodded with a smile while he sneaked up close and whispered insidiously, "You have no idea how terrifying the boss was last night."
The man kicked him on the butt, his voice filled with a menacing tone, "You talk too much?"
"What are you guys doing?" she asked curiously, draped in the coat.
"There’s news from the radio," Jianxiong, rubbing his butt and moving a bit farther away, said with joy written all over his round face, "a refugee base has been established in B City, and the people from Jiang Residence are among them."
Su Mo suddenly realized, "No wonder we haven’t heard from them while we have been staying in A City for so long."
Her parents were also in B City... Su Mo felt indescribable emotions at that thought.
"It will take quite some time to get from here to A City," Li Qian held a map picked up from the convenience store, "We have no fuel, and with the remote route, who knows how long it will take to get there."
"We still need to go," Jianxiong’s voice grew louder, "at least we need to figure out what exactly is happening."
"Lu Chen," Su Mo tugged on Lu Chen’s hand, frowning and speaking softly, "Don’t you find it strange that the base was established the day after the virus rain?"
Lu Chen had also thought of this and he rubbed her head, "That’s exactly why we need to go."
Li Qian adjusted his glasses and said, "Regardless, it’s the first large-scale base that has made its presence known and offered shelter to outsiders in a long time; we can go."
"Fuel, without fuel all this talk is for nothing, and the car is broken too," Zhao Changsheng kicked a stone on the ground, his flirtatious eyes directly addressing the critical point.
They had escaped without any preparation.
"I have it," Su Mo took out a jug of fuel from the System Bag and placed it on the ground with a smiling face, "The two jugs of fuel that Li Qian siphoned from the police car last time are still in my System Bag, which should be enough for us to find a repair shop or a gas station."
Jianxiong picked up the fuel and gave her a thumbs-up, "Sister, you’re like timely rain."
He opened the fuel tank and poured the oil into it.
The wind picked up, and the weather after the rain was refreshingly cool.
"Let’s go inside," Lu Chen said, taking Su Mo’s hand to lead her back.
Zhao Changsheng’s sensually curved lips were lifted high, envy filling his fox-like eyes.
"Wait," Su Mo tugged on him, "I want to try out my superpower."
After being scratched by that speed-type zombie, the energy that merged in her lower abdomen was abundant. Aside from her magical sight, there was another strange sensation.
She handed her jacket to Lu Chen and pointed to the big tree she had just seen, "I’ll be right back."
No sooner had she finished speaking than she disappeared from the spot, appearing next to the tree the following second. She leapt up, plucking a leaf by taking advantage of the Light as a Feather status bonus, and ran back.
In a round trip, she took only two or three seconds, with her speed leaving nothing but an afterimage in their eyes.
"That must be a Level 2 Speed Power," Jianxiong, a Level 2 superpower user, couldn’t see Su Mo’s speed at all.
Only in Lu Chen’s eyes could her movements be seen clearly.
"She evolved to a Level 2 Speed Power right off the bat?" Li Qian adjusted his glasses, seemingly surprised.
"One more freakish than the other," Jianxiong sighed and pointed at Lu Chen, "Our boss jumped two levels straight."
Li Qian also heaved a silent sigh, thinking that this time he had truly followed the right person.
Su Mo dropped the leaf on the ground, lifted her little face, and excitedly asked Lu Chen, "Was I fast?"
"Hmm," the man draped the clothes back on her and coldly said, "If you’re done playing, go inside."
Su Mo pouted and called to Jianxiong and the others, "Come on in, we haven’t eaten all day. I’ll whip up something tasty for you."
As soon as he heard about food, Jianxiong licked his lips and eagerly followed.
The group returned to the convenience store, where all the mess on the floor had been cleared out. They sat in a circle on the ground, with Su Mo taking out all the kitchenware, including a rice cooker, preparing for a big cooking session.
"They can eat bread," Lu Chen said, pulling on Su Mo’s hand with a frown.
"Boss! You can’t do this," Jianxiong exclaimed with bulging eyes, "It’s already bad enough killing dogs all day, and now you won’t even let us eat?"
The man’s face darkened, his whole being exuding coldness, but Su Mo squeezed his arm, feeling warm inside, "I’m not a doll, I’m already fine."
Su Niang had never seen Su Mo use those unique cooking tools before and couldn’t help but ask curiously, "There’s no electricity, how do you use them?"
Li Qian patted her hand and explained, "No electricity is needed."
Su Niang was confused, but not wanting to tire Su Mo, she took a seat next to her and offered, "I’ll help you, miss."
Su Mo smiled at her. The Crucian Carps and shrimps in her pond had been ready for a long time. She chose two of the pricier Crucian Carps, and the two lively fish suddenly appeared on the cutting board, startling Su Niang.
"Alive... Alive!" Su Niang’s eyes widened incredibly, rubbing her eyes to make sure they weren’t deceiving her, then exclaimed in surprise.
Su Mo nodded with a beaming smile, "Su Niang, can you help me with these two fish?"
Jianxiong’s mouth was watering, "I haven’t eaten fish cooked by you for so long."
"Then you can eat more later," Su Mo winked at him. She had Lu Chen take out rice and meat, washed the rice, put it in the rice cooker, and as Su Niang finished dealing with the fish and returned, she was again surprised to see the rice cooker’s screen light up and start cooking automatically.
Su Mo planned to make braised Crucian Carp. She got the recipe by exchanging a zombie head back in the prison, and the status bonus was for strength. Although it lacked some ingredients, which affected the final result, it was far more beneficial than instant noodles.
It was a rather economical and practical recipe that was well within Su Mo’s abilities...
