Chapter 491: Chapter 489: Strange Bugs

"Don’t go! How can we survive on so little rice! You mustn’t leave!"

Many people spontaneously blocked the front of the car. Su Mo and two others, who were walking below because there were no seats, almost got hit by a rake flying toward them.

Su Mo pursed her lips, bent down to pick up the rake, and fiercely hurled it back into the crowd; those people immediately scattered to clear the way.

"If you keep blocking the way, I won’t mind letting our wheels roll over," she said ruthlessly, a hint of murderous intent gleaming in her round eyes.

Jianxiong cooperated with her, turning his face and bulking up his muscles to look intimidating. Now no one dared to cause trouble, but they still followed closely behind, keeping watch.

Following Da Qiang’s directions, they reached the old workshop next to an overgrown wasteland. On closer inspection, one could see a cellar door submerged below and firmly locked.

"This is the place, we dug out from here. This path leads straight to the village entrance," Da Qing said.

"Then you drive through the mutant forest first, and we will meet later at the exit," Su Mo called out to Jin Han and the others.

Knowing that everyone had shields, Jin Han drove off confidently with the others.

Many villagers were left crowding a few meters behind Su Mo and her companions.

Seeing Jianxiong bending down to pull at the big iron chain, the crowd immediately panicked.

"Are you trying to get yourselves killed? There’s a monster locked down there by the leader! You mustn’t open it!"

Jianxiong paused, looked up at Lu Chen, and asked, "Boss, what do you say?"

"Open it."

The man swept a glance behind him, and the noise behind him immediately ceased.

Jianxiong pulled, easily yanking off the big iron chain from the cellar door. The door flung open from the outside, revealing pitch darkness inside, emanating a musty smell.

Su Mo leaned over to look, noticing the moist walls with many large holes on them, resembling a dense honeycomb, giving her goosebumps.

She frowned involuntarily, "What’s been kept in here?"

"You’ll know once we go down," Lu Chen crouched, placed his hand on the door, and leaped down.

Immediately, the sound of shoes splashing in puddles echoed from below.

Jianxiong: "You go first, sister. I’ll cover the rear."

Su Mo nodded and didn’t forget to turn back to the wary-looking villagers saying, "After we go down, remember to lock the cellar door, and just to add, the creature in that well will be coming out soon, take care."

After she and Jianxiong leapt down, the villagers behind them wrapped the iron chain around the door several times.

No sooner had Su Mo and the group reached the bottom, Lu Chen pulled out two flashlights, tossing one to Jianxiong to light the way.

Their Pumpkin Protection Shields still had half an hour left.

Inside the tunnel, strange crawling noises occasionally came from the densely packed small holes in the walls.

Before long, a booming sound from a giant stone being pushed off from a well above shook the tunnel, causing numerous water droplets to fall.

Carrying a faint fishy stench, they dropped on Su Mo’s head; her shield wouldn’t block non-lethal substances, and she immediately felt her scalp grow smelly.

"What’s going on up there?" Jianxiong looked back at the light seeping through the gap above, spotting several figures dashing away.

"Maybe my mouth really did bless us, that stone got pushed aside," Su Mo said nonchalantly.

Up ahead, Lu Chen suddenly stopped. A milky-white creature with eight jointed legs and a tail swiftly crawled past his feet. His superpower activated subconsciously, and an Ice Blade shot out, hitting the target dead center.

After a bizarre scream, the creature’s eight legs sprawled out on the ground.

Lu Chen crouched down to inspect it. Su Mo walked over, shining a strong light on the corpse, which had a grotesquely disgusting appearance: eight ghastly white, bone-like legs connected to a flattened fish-like body with a tail covered in Scale Armor, its body smeared with a sticky liquid.

Su Mo casually picked up a stick nearby and flipped the corpse over, revealing a mouth shaped like an oval filled with sharp teeth.

Jianxiong turned his eyes away, saying disdainfully, "That’s truly fucking disgusting."

She felt somehow that this creature looked familiar, "Lu Chen, have we seen this somewhere before?"

The man frowned, stood up, and crushed the creature under his foot, revealing a Level 3 Crystal Stone inside.

Tossing the Crystal Stone into the Space, he said coldly, "Let’s get out of here, it’s not safe."

In just that short time, the Shield had lost a few more minutes.

The three of them continued forward.

From the village above, a significant disturbance erupted as swarms of eight-legged creatures suddenly burst forth from a well, their crawling so fast upon touching the ground it was as if they were flying.

"Ahhhh! Help, help!"

A woman let out a shrill scream as a creature that had climbed up from her legs bit her neck, its long scaly tail winding around her throat.

In an instant, the woman’s pupils turned white, her hands grew sharp black claws, and she let out a monstrous roar, fiercely biting into the flesh of those nearby, tearing off large chunks of skin and flesh.

"Ah!! Run, run! They’re all coming out!"

Many villagers, barely able to feed themselves, lacked the strength to outrun these monstrous insects, and one after another was tackled and infected regardless of where they fled, with countless creatures swarming over them.

Some ran toward the village entrance, but before they took a few steps, sharp leaves sliced off necks, arms, and lower legs, the blood-soaked scene continuously assaulting the villagers’ senses.

"The cellar! The cellar! The cellar! They’re going into the cellar! Go that way! Go that way!"

Finally, someone figured it out. If Su Mo and the others, these outsiders, dared to head underground, they could surely follow and make it out!

About ten minutes after Su Mo and her group left, she moved her ears, alertly hearing the sound of the cellar door being re-opened, mixed with many heart-wrenching screams.

She paused, turned her head back, and looked at the pitch-black hole, "Did those people come down?"

"Probably, I can hear the screams from this far," Jianxiong glanced back.

"Hurry up," Lu Chen said from ahead.

The three of them quickened their pace, the scratching of claws occasionally sounding from within the walls.

And with thousands of tiny holes in the walls, one could easily guess they were made by those insects.

For the villagers who came down, it was also a death sentence.

Inside the tunnel, knowing intruders had entered, the sounds of the insects shuttling and scraping through the densely packed holes in the walls grew louder, occasionally dragging their slender scaly tails through them, seemingly searching for their next target.

"Help! Help!"
