Chapter 402: Chapter 401: Let’s Leave

Su Mo’s words struck the baker’s heart; his last defenses collapsed, and he sat dazed on the floor, staring blankly at Su Mo, "They’re all dead?"

Su Mo walked over and crouched beside him, whispering, "They are still alive. You have an Identity Card and can freely move in most areas. I offer you a chance to live, lead everyone from Area A and Area C, and step out of the laboratory. How about that?"

"In this sunless abyss, you are the batch that can be sacrificed at any time, tools for experiments, free labor, despised and demeaned by those above."

Speaking slowly, Su Mo’s every word was brutally true. She had even killed several C Zone citizens sent to test her, of course, she couldn’t reveal that.

"What do you want me to do?" His energy seemed to recover, hatred gleaming in his bloodshot eyes.

"If you encounter Feng Yao and his team, whatever they say, you do," she said.

"Who is Feng Yao?"

"You’ll recognize him at a glance."

Su Mo extended her fair hand, "Shall we cooperate?"

At this moment, the baker was completely led by the nose by her; his child was his biggest emotional support, now nearly shattered.

The man wiped away his tears; his calloused hand took hers.

Su Mo’s ears twitched, and she stood up, returning to the bed, "Once you’ve cleaned up here, you can leave."

Lu Jin had returned, along with the footsteps of many others; the cake baker hastily tidied up, lowering his head as he brushed past them.

"Ajin," Su Mo sat on the bed, greeting him with a beaming smile, seemingly clueless about the chaos outside.

Lu Jin, while handling affairs in Area B, had sensed something was amiss. He monitored Su Mo’s movements in real-time, motionless. The bread baker had also lingered too long in the hallway outside.

Something was off inside, but he just sat down beside her and asked softly, "Did you sleep all day today?"

Su Mo nodded without changing her expression, "You came back quite late, I’ve already had two rounds of cake."

Lu Jin chuckled softly, uncharacteristically tender, and hugged her, "Yes, strangers pretending to be guards and researchers infiltrated the S Zone restricted area, I went to handle it."

Su Mo looked downwards, "Did you find the person?"

"No," or rather, he had not wanted to.

He had also deliberately erased some facts, such as the researcher who mysteriously went blind, and Professor Li, who had fainted in the Control Room but appeared in the restricted area.

In fact, he already knew who was behind all this.

Naturally adept at killing, how could he not smell the blood stuck under the monitor beneath the pillow behind Su Mo?

Exclusively hers, fragrant.

He stroked her soft hair, the woman’s neck untouched, and although he did not know how she did it, it didn’t matter, did it?

"Su Mo," he called softly over her head.

Su Mo looked up, "Hmm?"

"Stay with me for another day, will you?" he suddenly buried his head into her neck, inhaling deeply as if to engrave her scent deep into his bones.

He was very strange, Su Mo thought.

She masked her emotion and smiled warmly, "Of course, as long as Ajin wishes, I’ll accompany you."

Lu Jin laughed, his deep voice emanating from his throat, somewhat fragmented but pleasant to the ears. When he lifted his head to look at her, it was as if he had made up his mind, "Tomorrow, I’ll take you around the entire laboratory."

Before meeting her, he had already planned to confine her by his side for life, but after meeting her, he found himself willing to give everything for her, even be led by the nose.

All night, Lu Jin never left her side, holding her hand and resting in a chair.

In the darkness, Su Mo felt as though she had never truly understood Lu Jin. At first, his actions seemed solely motivated by a desire to possess her, but now, since she had lost her arm, things seemed different.

She looked down at the red marks on her left arm and her heart began to miss Lu Chen anew, wondering how they were faring now.

In a glass room, Lu Chen was similarly hanging his head down, his hand occasionally rubbing the red bean bracelet, his eyes filled with endless worry and longing.

Each day, someone would open the glass door to deliver a meal of stinking beans that resembled feces. In countless moments, Lu Chen could have taken his men and stormed out, twisted their heads off, and gone to find his girl, but he restrained himself.

He knew he needed to keep his emotions steady now and wait for her to come for him as promised. His girl had grown up; he had to learn to trust her.

...

Early in the morning, while Lu Jin changed clothes and washed up, Su Mo slipped the monitor from under her pillow into her pocket and got dressed to wait for him.

He took her from the basement upwards, meandering until the artificial sunlight outside turned dark.

He explained to her about the various exits of the laboratory, which were fire escape routes, which could lead to the outside world through sewage pipes, and where weapons were stored.

Gradually, Su Mo started to feel uneasy. She began to suspect whether he knew what she was planning to do.

As dusk fell, standing inside Eden House, she asked him seriously for the first time, "Why tell me all this?"

Lu Jin embraced her tightly, "Let’s leave."

This time, Su Mo was truly stunned; then she scoffed, "You found out already?"

Lu Jin did not deny it, simply holding her tighter, "Forgive me."

When he saw her severely injured and her arm amputated, he knew everything had gone wrong.

"I’m giving you a chance to leave," he whispered in her ear.

Su Mo was silent. Since there was no need to pretend, she pushed him hard, "Then thank you. You can leave now."

She turned her back on him, the cold overhead light casting a chilly halo around her.

As the door closed, Su Mo’s tensed nerves relaxed slightly. She sat on the bed for a long while before suddenly laughing mockingly.

Following her memory, she hastily crafted a detailed map of the laboratory overnight — some details she saw on the screens in the Central Control Room, and others she added after Lu Jin had shown her personally.

In any case, this report was impeccably accurate and was passed to Feng Yao by the baker who came to deliver her cake.

Although Feng Yao had a good grip on the escape route he had planned earlier, because of the higher value of Su Mo’s report, he revised his route again mid-way.

The patrol personnel, as usual, continued their shifts, bullying the common folk below.

Unbeknownst to them, areas A and C seemed to have reached some sort of tacit agreement, becoming exceptionally well-behaved and quiet.

In recent days, Su Yao, although constantly feeling a bad premonition, was tempted by the Crystal Stone. He sent out a team to check and then spent days and nights in a top-secret laboratory hurrying to produce the medicine.
