Chapter 385: Chapter 384: Family Background
As the sun slowly set, the latest recruits from the laboratory found their places.
There was no resistance, the act was over, now it was just about being taken back.
It was that motorcycle, Lu Chen hadn’t managed to retrieve it when a tranquilizer gun shot hit his leg.
Both fell in the desert.
"Subject retrieved, returning to base now."
...
[External technology intrusion, auto-blocking]
[Interfering medicine entered, auto-blocking]
[Host auto-activation]
[Warning, brain under attack, auto-blocking]
So noisy.
Enveloped in darkness, Su Mo wanted to move, but there was no sensation in her body whatsoever.
After the system’s warning sounds ceased, her eyelashes began to tremble, and sensations slowly returned to her body.
It was very quiet around her ears, she could hear no sounds, only the noises from the devices and the electrocardiogram.
After a series of flickering lights, all her senses snapped back in an instant, Su Mo suddenly opened her eyes, and her pupils constricted.
The ceiling was white, spotlessly clean without any impurities.
She moved her head and hands, and a deep pain surged, a chunk of flesh at her temple was sucked into a tube, and it seemed something was being added into it.
It was the same with her arms and legs, she bit her lip, endured the pain and forcefully removed those tubes, although it took a lot of flesh with them, she didn’t make a sound.
All her clothes had been changed, only a piece of white cloth wrapped around her vital parts.
Her toes pressed against the cold floor, she began to inspect the prison with walls on all sides.
Behind the impenetrable wall, at the operator’s console, a series of alarms were sounding.
"How did she wake up so quickly?" Su Yao, frowning, asked as he watched the woman walking around inspecting the surroundings.
"The medicine transfer failed, her body is rejecting it," a researcher said.
"Impossible, she has grown up surrounded by the virus from the embryo stage; how could it not activate?"
"Doctor, I’m not sure, but indeed, she has become immune to the awakening medicine."
Su Yao sighed, "Never mind, she’s already awake, I’ll go and check on her."
Su Mo did not hear their conversation, yet a crack appeared in the wall without a door.
She was somewhat guarded, knowing that her every move was now completely under their control, and she couldn’t harm the people in front of her yet.
The man who entered was middle-aged, dressed in a white lab coat, holding a tablet, his almost entirely white hair meticulously combed.
For some reason, from the moment he entered, his burning gaze was fixed on her.
Su Mo felt uncomfortable all over, not like being targeted by a monster, but as if her heart’s circulation had suddenly sped up, her left hand grasped her slightly trembling right hand, suppressing the urge to tear the man in front of her into pieces.
"You’re finally back," the man began, his words those of a long-missed old friend.
"What did you inject into me?"
"Something to keep your mind clear," the man approached her step by step, occasionally glancing at the electronic device in his hand which recorded various metrics of her body, "Clearly, you’ve recovered well."
Su Mo pursed her lips, the warning tones in her mind telling her otherwise.
"Where is Lu Chen?"
"You mean Admiral Lu? He is fine, staying in Area A with your friends."
Su Mo stepped back as he approached, she tried to summon her superpower, suddenly realizing her abdomen was empty, she frowned, "What have you done to me?"
"Here, the superpower is suppressed by the magnetic field, you need not worry, my child," Su Yao finally stood still in front of her, his hands seemed to lovingly want to stroke her hair.
Su Mo was taken aback by the word "child," her body reflexively dodging his touch, "Who are you?"
She asked again, her voice much more serious than ever before.
The smile never left Su Yao’s lips, as he happily answered her question, "Your father."
Su Mo froze, her heart thumping faster, the surge of adrenaline nearly breaking through her mental barriers.
A series of red alerts appeared on Su Yao’s electronic device, and he began to back away, "My child, you need to calm down."
Of course, Su Mo knew she needed to be calmer, she shouldn’t harbor such extreme hatred if this man really was her father.
Ever since she had memories, all of them stemmed from the Su Huaguang couple and that good-for-nothing brother.
Why would this man invoke such an unsettling emotion in her?
She kept telling herself to stay calm, as he retreated, she did too, her voice hoarse from suppression, "Then explain, why did you abandon me?"
With that, Su Yao’s fear seemed to settle, she wasn’t an ordinary person, he couldn’t ensure that she hadn’t implanted memories as an embryo, but now, he knew, her emotions all stemmed from him, her negligent father.
"I am very sorry, your mother and I had to leave because of state secrets, it’s been decades, but I finally found you."
Tears welled up in Su Yao’s eyes, tinged with pain and affection for his daughter.
Such an official statement, Su Mo didn’t believe a word, her eyes fixated on the now calm, no longer alarming electronic device in his hands, "What did you do to me?"
"My child, that’s just a small device placed to check on your health conditions at all times, don’t panic," Su Yao finally managed to touch her hair, his eyes filled with obsession, "You’ve grown so much, and you’re beautiful."
Su Mo, containing her disgust, stared coldly at him, "Let my friends go."
Su Yao’s hand paused, his nearly stiff smile slowly relaxed, "They are living well in Area A, I believe they have no reason to leave, want me to take you to see them?"
Su Mo knew that she had no power to resist at this moment, she had underestimated the situation, and her future plans might have to be undertaken alone.
"Take me there."
The gentleman extended a hand, and after a few seconds of contemplation, Su Mo reached out hers.
"We should change clothes first."
Exiting the room, they encountered straight corridors on both sides, akin to a hospital’s layout, filled with a strong scent of disinfectant.
In response, Su Yao explained, "This is a Grade S key area, it gets disinfected daily, which might be a bit pungent."
Although she couldn’t use her superpower of speed, her keen senses hadn’t dulled, the smell uncomfortable to her nose.
Entering a bedroom specially prepared for her, Su Mo observed the decor and darkened her gaze.
That unsettling sense of familiarity came over her again.
