Chapter 384: Chapter 383: Bring Back

But before they even reached the boundary, the area had already started to become barren. The weeds that usually grew in the crevices of the rocks had disappeared, and even the zombies began to dwindle.

This time, Su Mo did not deliberately cover her face. She came out of the office building, and the sun was already high overhead, casting warm light down.

The moment she looked up, the precise instruments in the laboratory that had been searching for someone started to operate, and her face was magnified on the screen.

"Go pick her up," Su Yao was very excited. It had been dozens of days since he had last seen her.

Behind him, several standing warriors were about to carry out the order, when Su Yao’s warning was heard,

"Gently, don’t scare her."

...

They were still far from them, but for the helicopter, it was just a matter of a few hours.

As Su Mo wrapped her arms around Lu Chen’s waist, crossing the city to officially enter the desert-like territory, her ears twitched, hearing the piercing sound of the helicopter’s propellers rotating.

They had arrived.

Lu Chen floored the accelerator, and their speed increased.

The motorcycle entered a desert, kicking up a huge cloud of dust.

The helicopter above closely followed, with a person inside holding a gun aiming at the backs of the two amidst the vast dust and high speed, making it impossible to aim for the moment.

Having no choice, the helicopter above began to descend closer, its rapidly rotating propellers intensifying the wind below.

Su Mo looked back and tightly shut her mouth, feeling that if she opened it, she could eat a mouthful of sand.

The sunlight scattered across the desert, casting rays of gold, with several large, towering, broken buildings and city landmarks nearly buried in the yellow sand in the distance.

Just as the person inside the helicopter was about to fire tranquilizers at them, the detection radar on the dashboard emitted a series of intense alarm sounds.

"Damn it! Not this thing again!"

"Quick! Ascend! Ascend!"

Riding below, Lu Chen also felt something was off. He quickly turned the motorcycle, and ahead in the desert, a huge pit had formed where an enormous scorpion, nearly ten meters long and glimmering with red and black, leaped out.

The massive creature almost blocked out large swaths of sunlight.

Its tail, previously swaying behind, now stood upright. The massive lead claw swept over the heads of Su Mo and Lu Chen as its pincers grabbed the underside of the helicopter’s step.

Countless bullets recklessly riddled its body.

Lu Chen stopped the motorcycle and looked back. The scorpion’s tail was caught in the propeller; it not only wasn’t shredded, but it also directly broke off the propeller blades. Under its assault, the helicopter crashed to the ground with a tremendous roar and then exploded with a "bang."

Su Mo was stunned, yet her face showed no signs of panic, only quietly saying, "It seems like we’ve gone overboard."

They had planned to give them a run around, making it seem like they were in a submissive position, to make the others lower their guard and willingly take them back, but this chase ended up killing the helicopter that was supposed to take them to the laboratory.

"Level 6 Scorpion," Lu Chen dismounted, looking serious, "not easy to deal with."

This desert was its hunting ground, and they had stormed in. Now, even getting away was a problem.

Su Mo looked at the enormous creature emerging from a blazing inferno, her mouth agape, "Who said we were going to kill it? We’re taking it back to the laboratory."

Lu Chen glanced at her affectionately, realizing what she was up to.

He said in a deep voice, "I’ll go attract the scorpion’s tail. You try to... Without any mishaps, they should send people over again soon."

Su Mo smiled and nodded, pulling out the Tang Blade and giving it a flick.

Lu Chen, in front, formed a massive Ice Shield and actively charged toward the Scorpion.

Su Mo pulled into viewing distance and could see the crimson blood stained on its mouthparts, with two disc-like structures opening and closing beside its mouth, seemingly ready to shred flesh at any moment.

The shell on its back and tail, like armor, refracted the sunlight, casting a dark red glow, appearing both tall and frightening.

She followed behind Lu Chen, rushing over the soft sand.

The red and black scorpion tail struck against Lu Chen’s condensed shield, emitting a huge noise; cracks appeared on the shield, and it began to crumble.

The man didn’t care at all; the Cold Ice Barbs under his feet all attacked the Scorpion.

With him capturing its attention up front, Su Mo circled to its rear. Its shiny black and red legs constantly stirred the yellow sand. She used her blade to fend off the legs that occasionally swept around changing the direction of attack.

Her hand touched the cold steel-needle-like hairs, risked being pierced, and a grid in the System Bag emitting a white light instantly took effect following the owner’s intent.

The two Claw limbs halted in front of Lu Chen, the Scorpion that was about to clasp his waist and cut him in half vanished without a trace.

In Su Mo’s grid, a mini scorpion appeared there.

Effortlessly.

She sighed in relief, sheathed her blade, and the sunlight coupled with the wind felt still a bit warm.

"How are you, hurt?" She ran to the man’s side, giving him a thorough look over; fortunately, only his clothes were a bit dirty; the rest of him was intact.

Lu Chen looked toward the falling helicopter, spoke softly, "Let’s go see what’s left."

The two walked over the continuous sand towards the almost completely burned-out shell of the helicopter.

The remnants of white paint on the wreckage were still faintly visible.

It was the national flag!

From elementary to university, she had always saluted the national flag!

Su Mo was surprised, "Is this laboratory really built by the state?"

Lu Chen’s face had turned utterly somber, his aura was chillingly cold, "These dirty creatures."

Recalling Jiang Zhou’s words on Southern Island, the national leaders hidden underground were nothing but dirty rats that dared only live in sewer drains.

Su Mo’s expression also darkened; aside from some unrecognizable corpses, there were a few silver bullets amidst the black wreckage.

Lu Chen crouched down to pick up one, examined the lines on it, which seemed like it could be opened; he picked out all the bullets and handed one to Su Mo, "Try crushing it with your hand."

Su Mo, not understanding his intent but still complying, placed the bullet in her right palm. Very fine wood vines popped out, controlled by her will, they broke the outer layer of the bullet.

Inside was a green medicine, packed in a container resembling a glass bottle stuffed inside the bullet.

"Anesthetic?"

She asked.

"Designed to use against us."

Lu Chen took the remaining bullets and stored them in his bag; in a crucial moment, they might prove useful.

The duo got on their motorcycle and resumed wandering in this desert that was originally a plateau.

As the sun slowly set, the latest personnel sent by the laboratory finally located them.
