Chapter 381: Chapter 380: Heading to the Western Region
After entering the small warehouse behind the cashier’s counter, Lu Chen locked the door from the inside. Su Mo sat on the ground, sighing, "Where are we now?"
Lu Chen had a map of the amusement park at some point, and he turned on a flashlight, placing it between the two of them.
The amusement park was not in Hua City, which meant they had already left the vicinity of Hua City. Lu Chen took out another map, searching for routes to the Western Region—fortunately, they hadn’t strayed too far off course. The fastest route to the Western Region would still take a month.
As Su Mo observed him deep in thought, she suddenly said, "How did they find us? It’s incredible that they could pinpoint our location so accurately in such a dense forest."
Lu Chen put away the map and sat next to her, sharing some stored rice balls, "Satellite positioning. Given these people’s technology, launching a new satellite wouldn’t be impossible."
Beyond that, he couldn’t think of any other explanation.
Taking a bite of the rice ball, Su Mo said, "They want me. If I expose myself deliberately, they will surely come for us again."
That way, the two could consequently find them.
This was the best method, and Lu Chen thought the same. He turned and looked at her quietly, "It will be dangerous."
After swallowing the last bite of her rice ball, Su Mo spoke earnestly, "I know, but our people are there; if it’s dangerous, we need to go."
"Before that, we need to prepare thoroughly," Lu Chen said as he put his arm around her shoulders, his expression chillingly cold.
Su Mo nodded, "Exactly, we can’t keep being at their mercy."
She concealed the murderous intent in her eyes—if her companions were in trouble, she would fight to the end to get them back.
As the night deepened, the two made do with sleeping in the warehouse.
The next morning, Su Mo woke up and checked the panel. She reviewed her available recipes; Jasmine Tea’s Healing Superpower Status had not been upgraded yet. She focused her mind, still owing the system eight thousand points, which she had to settle before reaching the Western Region.
Opening the shop, she browsed through the recipes, selecting a few, and then fell into thought over the status bonuses listed on them.
Most of her current recipes had been obtained through upgrades. Now it seemed that buying these items could increase her chances of successfully reaching the Western Region.
So what she needed to do was to kill as many zombies as possible.
"Awake?" Lu Chen opened his eyes and shifted the hand resting on her shoulder.
Su Mo moved a bit away from him and shared her thoughts with him. The man had no objections. After a simple breakfast and washing up, they left.
The morning air was fresh, yet Su Mo wore a mask and covered her face, heading straight for the outskirts of the amusement park with Lu Chen.
Along the way, they encountered a few scattered zombies. Lu Chen did not act; instead, Su Mo killed each one without exception.
Once they arrived at the parking area, most of the vehicles were covered in a thick layer of dirt and rust. Due to the heavy snow some days ago, many cars were damaged. There were quite a few zombies around, all of which Su Mo killed with her blade.
What she needed now were points, a large number of points, and she didn’t want to let even a single ant slip by.
Lu Chen searched several cars until he finally found a working SUV. He tossed the bodies off it, got in, and drove up to Su Mo’s side.
The two got into the car and sped off on the road to the Western Region.
...
Over a desert, several helicopters stirred up a huge yellow sandstorm as they descended onto a massive helipad. Then, the entire helipad began to lower, sinking into the swirling sands.
The Central Laboratory of the entire nation, Western Region.
Sitting in the Central Control Room, after using satellites for two days with no clue of Lu Jin’s whereabouts, the fierceness on his face grew heavier, while the middle-aged man beside him didn’t look any better either.
"There’s no match for any facial recognition yet," a researcher reported.
"Keep searching!"
Lu Jin turned his gloomy and fierce eyes to Su Yao, "You’d better bring your daughter back safe and sound."
Su Yao shifted his gaze to him, "I want her safe more than anyone else."
"The experiment subject has been brought back," several fully armed personnel entered from outside.
His eyes gleaming with surprise, Su Yao ordered, "Take it to the laboratory, the rest should be locked in the A section control room and monitored the entire time."
"Yes."
...
Along the way, as the main force, Su Mo killed countless zombies, clawing back her points bit by bit, with the total reaching eight thousand. Along the way, their car broke down, forcing them to enter a small town and find a motorcycle shop.
It was fully stocked, and a brand-new Harley Davidson was enshrined on the display stand untouched and undamaged, with a color scheme of black and silver that looked very cool.
After Lu Chen tested it and found it usable, he added oil to the motorcycle, straddled it, and tested the powerful engine.
"Get on."
The man in a black coat sat on it, looking exceptionally cool.
Su Mo was still at the edge of the platform, where there was an old man’s body clutching an antique radio receiver with an aerial. After thinking for a moment, she took the radio and put it into her System Bag, then without any hesitation, mounted the bike and wrapped her arms around his waist.
As the exhaust valve roared, the bike shot out of the shop and onto the road.
The motorcycle could easily weave through obstacles on the expressway, far surpassing that of a car. The sensation was entirely different from a four-wheeled vehicle too, as she could feel the wind constantly whipping past her ears, the speed climbing rapidly.
Ahead, there were intense sounds of gunfire and combat.
Just before they were about to exit the highway, Lu Chen slowed down the motorcycle, revealing a small group of zombies and a team of people trapped among them.
Su Mo’s eyes lit up immediately, "Let’s go help them!"
The vehicle stopped, she jumped off, and the Tang Blade appeared in her right hand as she stretched her shins.
After parking the bike, Lu Chen saw her eager look and admonished, "Don’t get hurt."
"Got it, got it!" Su Mo replied, and with her blade in hand, she had already dashed out.
In the past two days, she had gradually figured out some capabilities of her right hand. For instance, now as she charged into the zombie horde with the blade, she could easily slice the zombies in half with her great strength, as smoothly as cutting tofu.
Even without the Tang Blade, the strength in her right hand was way beyond that of a level 4 superpower user; she could yank off the tongue of a level 4 zombie with one hand, along with its root, and could easily twist off their necks.
Lu Chen stood outside all this time; his superpower hadn’t killed those zombies, only paralyzed their movements, giving Su Mo the chance to reap them.
"Help, help!" a woman whose superpower was drained sat on the ground, her face pale and terrifying. The sharp claws about to grab her face were neatly severed by Su Mo.
The disgusting rotten fluid sprayed all over the woman’s face.
