Chapter 365: Chapter 364: A Probe?
Su Mo looked up at her and smiled, "How to prove it?"
"Enter the Demon’s cage."
In plain terms, they were asking her to go to her death, but Su Mo’s smile deepened slightly, "Alright."
She agreed, and Lu Chen’s brows furrowed as his large palm, gripping her wrist, tightened, his voice frighteningly cold, "What are you going to do?!"
On her tiptoes, Su Mo whispered a few words into his ear, and the man’s expression chilled for a while before turning to the person at the head seat and saying, "We’ll go together."
The Empress’s gaze shifted over the two of them, "That’s fine."
"Momo, take me with you, let’s go together," Zhao Changsheng stood close to Su Mo, her beautiful face full of vigilance.
Su Mo pushed her toward Li Qian and whispered, "It’s more dangerous with more people; Lu Chen can protect me. You guys keep an eye on Ling Ye on the outside, there’s definitely going to be movement at the lab."
"Okay," Li Qian pulled Zhao Changsheng, who was trying to lean in closer, back.
Su Mo rubbed Zhao Changsheng’s arm and hinted, "You stay with Li Qian and don’t cause any trouble that would worry me."
"What trouble can I cause?" Zhao Changsheng, with one arm pulled by him, had an unhappy face.
Jianxiong had been watching the four people as a bystander. He cleared his throat and said to the Empress, "Shall I take them over?"
"Let Old Dao take these two demons over, and send the rest back to their residence."
With a gruff voice, Jianxiong asked, "What about that milksop’s mother, are we taking her over too?"
Speaking of Jiang Yulian, the Empress shook her head in refusal, "Let her stay with me for now."
Jianxiong’s eyes flickered and he agreed.
As he passed by Su Mo, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, he was unable to say much; he just set his face in a hard expression and said to Li Qian, "Come with me."
Zhao Changsheng, being pulled along, kept looking back at Su Mo with every few steps, until finally she disappeared around the corner.
Su Mo and Lu Chen were also led out of the palace by Old Dao and onto a secluded path.
Behind them, a shoe suddenly flew through the air, and the man’s broad back directly shielded Su Mo from the black shoe.
He turned his head slightly, his icy gaze fixed on the woman who had thrown the shoe.
She was no more than in her twenties, balancing on one foot, with patterns drawn on her face, pointing at them and screaming maniacally, "Go die! Demons deserve to die!"
It wasn’t just her; everyone felt the same repulsion towards them, a completely different face from what they had shown during the day.
Even Old Dao ahead of them looked at the two with a defensive gaze.
Su Mo tugged at Lu Chen’s hand, and the two followed Old Dao out of the palace and onto the path, as the trees rustled loudly in the cold night wind.
Su Mo tightened the clothes around her and hugged Lu Chen’s arm; the two quietly followed behind Old Dao.
"Aren’t we heading back to that Demon Cage?" she turned to look at the palace, which was getting further and further away, and asked.
"We’re almost there," Old Dao led them a few more steps, to an artificially created cave.
Several wire nets had been stretched outside, all electrified, and there were quite a few people guarding it.
After their identities were confirmed, Su Mo and Lu Chen, under the resentful gazes of the Gatekeepers, entered the cave.
Inside, several sealed holes dotted the ground.
Old Dao made his way to one of the openings, where a strength-based superpower user came over to slide the stone cover off the entrance, revealing a metal ladder leading straight down.
"Go down".
Looking down, Su Mo saw that it wasn’t very deep, only about seven or eight meters, and within her field of vision, she did not spot the figure of the Spiritual Zombie.
"I’ll go first".
No sooner had she finished observing than Lu Chen had already squatted down, his palm gripping the side of the metal ladder, and he began descending step by step.
Yang Yichu might recognize her, but not necessarily Lu Chen, so Su Mo hurried over and followed him down the ladder.
After the two of them went down, the stone cover was immediately replaced from above.
When Su Mo and Lu Chen safely reached the pitch-black ground where not even their hands were visible, she saw the straight tunnel before her and knew that this entrance connected directly to the deep pits of the Demon Cages,
Meanwhile, the Empress entered a surveillance room where every deep pit was equipped with a camera, and of course, the passageways were no exception.
It was through this they controlled the demons.
Lu Chen took out a flashlight, illuminating the small area ahead of them.
The place was so quiet that only the sound of water dripping onto rocks and their own breaths could be heard.
Standing close to Lu Chen, Su Mo surveyed the area with a sweep of her gaze and still did not see the Spiritual Zombie; she whispered, "Is it in the passage ahead?"
Lu Chen’s flashlight shone down the tunnel as he pulled Su Mo forward a few steps.
Their shoes clicked and clacked over the gravel.
On the surveillance screen, the indistinct figure of a zombie hung quietly from the ceiling of the rock wall, its head mechanically turning to follow the two people as they walked towards the tunnel, its pale eyes fixed on their forms.
A long tongue emerged, licking its purplish lips.
As Su Mo and Lu Chen slowly entered the long L-shaped corridor, a breeze came through from the bend ahead, and when they reached the corner, Su Mo’s ears twitched.
Underneath the sound of the wind, something had fallen to the ground.
In the pitch-dark tunnel, Su Mo immediately turned her head, her night-vision eyes quickly catching an unusual figure; she instantly said, "It’s behind us".
The four-limbed zombie tilted its head to one side and then, under their watchful gaze, slowly rose from the ground, making a creepy cracking sound as it straightened its upper body.
After seeing Su Mo, Ling Ye had been observing Su Mo through this zombie’s eyes all along.
A giant zombie running and leaping swiftly through the night sky came to a halt; sitting on its shoulder, Yang Yichu saw Su Mo’s face clearly through the zombie’s eyes.
Afterward, the Spiritual Zombie facing Su Mo’s showed a human-like emotion in its pale pupils, and its raspy throat squeezed out a few words, "Sis, sis, where are you?"
Lu Chen moved Su Mo behind him, his muscles tensing, only allowing her head to emerge; Su Mo pursed her lips, was this a test?
"Hua City, atop a mountain".
"I, know, now, wait for me", the zombie said slowly, the corners of its mouth beginning to rise.
Fixing her eyes on its pale pupils, Su Mo rested her hand on Lu Chen’s shoulder and said tentatively, "On your way here, try... not to hurt people, if you’re hungry you can eat Mutant Beast".
The Spiritual Zombie tilted its head as if contemplating, but in the end, it did not respond to Su Mo’s words and instead moved back a few steps, its upright torso bending down to rest on all fours again, finding a corner to silently shrink into.
Seeing on the monitor that the zombie really did stop not far in front of Su Mo, and appeared to be conversing, the people sitting in front of the surveillance screen exclaimed in horror, "They really are the envoys of the demons!"
