Chapter 355: Chapter 354: Recognizing Each Other
Su Mo saw this and immediately ran towards the location she had agreed on with Zhao Changsheng.
As she reached the corner, the lion followed closely behind, the gap between them just a few seconds.
It was these few seconds that Su Mo was counting on; as it leaped high into the air towards her, she quickly dived to the side, shouting at the same time, "Quick!"
A thick bolt of thunder split the roof open, striking down on the lion with a combination of water and electricity, doubling the damage: the lion’s fur was completely scorched, accompanied by painful roars and the stench of burnt flesh.
In those few seconds, Su Mo hurried to the spot where she had dropped her knife, picked it up, and used the last bit of her superpower to transform into a blur, reaching the lion that had fallen into the corner. She raised the Tang Blade high and ruthlessly stabbed down into its head.
With a squelch, people on top erupted in deafening cheers.
Jiang Zhuoyang started bawling from the noise around him, the Empress took off her night-vision goggles, her eyes showing admiration. She stood up, "They are now qualified Angel Envoys, inquire their wishes; if they do not wish to become companions of the god, let them seek redemption."
"Yes," they answered.
The Empress, holding her child and sweeping her cloak, left the room.
In the room, the lights turned on,
Meanwhile, Lu Chen’s battle was also nearing an end; he and Li Qian each fought a lion.
The pit reeked of wild animal, and Lu Chen was completely engulfed in a cold aura, a murderous intent enveloping him that made even those who had called him out bristle with fear.
Truly terrifying.
However, when they told him those three women were unharmed, his expression slightly relaxed.
The people on top dispersed, and Su Mo put away her knife and walked over to Zhao Changsheng, helping him up, then approached Jiang Yulian, who was still wobbly on her legs, and hoisted her up half way, praising, "Aunt Jiang, you did very well!"
"I can’t be useless," Jiang Yulian said feebly, clearly worried about her child.
Su Mo whispered in her ear, "Don’t worry. Given the Empress’s demeanor, Zhuoyang will be fine for now."
The only iron door in front of the three opened.
This time, instead of beasts and zombies, the people who came to clean up the battlefield and provide support appeared, among them a familiar face that surprised Zhao Changsheng and Jiang Yulian.
Su Mo immediately whispered a warning, "Pretend you don’t know them."
Both complied without hesitation.
Jianxiong, adopting the guise of a stranger, scowled and roughly said, "Follow me."
Su Mo lowered her head and followed them through the corridor, and outside, Lu Chen came out of the building from the opposite side, and both groups met.
Su Mo’s heart tightened at the sight of Lu Chen covered in blood, his slow steps turning into a brisk pace upon seeing her.
Li Qian felt a jolt in his heart when he saw Zhao Changsheng injured and ran over.
Fearing that Su Mo was injured too, when he went to help Zhao Changsheng, she did not refuse, wrapping one arm around Li Qian’s neck and tightly grasping his blood-stained hand.
"Where are you hurt?!" Lu Chen asked, his aura instantly towering, his murderous intent unrestrained.
Su Mo quickly reassured, "I’m not, I’m not!"
One of her hands, now free, tugged on his sleeve. "What about you? Are you hurt? Did you also enter that Demon Cage?"
"Also?" Lu Chen instantly understood; his woman had also entered that cage filled with zombies and wild beasts. His gaze grew more dangerous.
Seeing him like this, Su Mo hurriedly said, "Come and help Aunt Jiang, my hand is a bit sore from swinging the blade."
Lu Chen shifted his gaze to Jiang Yulian, and seeing her unsteady on her feet, he immediately went over and picked her up.
Su Mo’s hand indeed felt somewhat sore, and she waved it as she followed him.
"Where are you taking us?" she asked Jianxiong.
Jianxiong had been staring at Li Qian and Zhao Changsheng for a while, and somehow, he felt uncomfortable. Upon his sister’s question, he coughed and said, "The will of the gods mandates that you stay, you have one night to consider whether to stay or leave."
At this announcement, a twitch appeared at the corner of Su Mo’s eye, but she cooperated, responding, "Alright."
Jianxiong led them through a small path paved with stones and into a very large mansion.
Mansion... Su Mo thought about it and felt that the word didn’t quite fit; it looked more like a cult palace.
The interior was decorated in an ancient European style. Upon entering the hall, there was a large dome above with figures of gods that Su Mo did not recognize, and classical columns were placed around.
She did not look around, as Jianxiong led them through a series of turns to two rooms.
"You will stay here for tonight," Jianxiong opened the door and led them into the room.
Once inside, he immediately dropped his disguise, his eyes filled with excitement and surprise. He whispered, "These two rooms have no cameras; all external communal areas do, be cautious."
"Jianxiong, how did you become part of a cult organization?" Su Mo was pleased to see him return but puzzled by his current identity.
After Li Qian placed Zhao Changsheng on the bed, he instructed her to lie down.
Jianxiong surveyed Zhao Changsheng and, receiving a glance from Lu Chen, began to explain in a very low voice, "I was swept by the sea to an unknown place, got injured, barely made it out of the forest, and then I encountered a Level 4 mutant lion, the one you fought, that these heretics specifically captured for use in the Demon Cage."
Jianxiong paused, then sighed deeply, "I wanted to find you, but the territory of these heretics isn’t easy to leave. Anyone not believing in god is killed; I reluctantly disguised myself only to find a chance to leave."
The hardships were not something that could be explained in a few words; Su Mo looked at Jianxiong with a complicated and sympathetic expression.
Lu Chen patted Jianxiong on the shoulder, "Hard times."
Jianxiong’s eyes, as big as brass bells, instantly reddened, almost spilling tears at seeing his team return intact.
"Then where are we now?" Su Mo asked.
"Hua City."
"Jianxiong, is the job done? Let’s go! It’s time to eat over there!"
Outside, a male voice akin to a duck’s quack sounded.
The room instantly grew quiet, Jianxiong quickly adjusted his demeanor, and pointing to Zhao Changsheng on the bed, he said, "Treat her, and remember, no matter what they say tomorrow, you must agree."
The group nodded. As Jianxiong began to leave, Jiang Yulian grabbed his sturdy arm, her voice almost pleading as she asked, "My child, how is my child doing?"
"No worries, the Empress will absolutely not harm that child; on the contrary, he will be very safe by her side," Jianxiong whispered in her ear. He did not elaborate on the reasons, afraid that staying too long would cause unnecessary trouble, and quickly walked away.
