Chapter 354: Chapter 353: Level 4 Lion
Although her power was small, she had caught the attention of the Queen at the top.
Water sources were precious at this time.
"It seems," the Empress murmured indifferently, still gently patting the infant in her arms, "Ah Xiong was right, these people indeed have the potential to become Angel Envoys."
With a dozen or so zombies, Su Mo killed them quickly and accurately, decapitating a zombie with every slash of her blade. Zhao Changsheng coordinated well, and Jiang Yulian occasionally released Water Arrows to pierce the zombies’ legs, disabling them.
The zombies were wiped out in an instant.
Zhao Changsheng, inevitably splattered with blood, gasped for air and raised her hand to give the Empress the middle finger from her position.
This provocative act did not elicit any displeasure from her; on the contrary, the Empress’s gaze grew more approving. "Turn off the lights, let’s test their limits."
An elderly man brought her a night-vision device and then ordered the lights around them to be turned off before pressing the button again.
Unable to see the outside clearly, and inevitably covered in blood, the bright lights above suddenly went out.
Her alertness reached its peak and she spoke sternly to Zhao Changsheng, "Stand behind me."
Neither Zhao Changsheng nor Jiang Yulian had as good night vision as Su Mo, who was not affected by the darkness at all; rather, her vision became even clearer.
The red lights on the wall, after a shrill alarm, completely succumbed to the darkness.
Su Mo’s ears twitched as she heard heavy footsteps coming from the corridor.
After carefully distinguishing, she realized that the footsteps did not resemble those of zombies; it sounded like the movement of a creature on all fours, and there was the sound of a tail slapping against the wall.
When it appeared on the corridor’s straight path, Su Mo’s pupils dilated suddenly when she saw the mane, and she immediately shouted, "It’s a Level 4 lion!"
In the dark, narrow pit, a pair of crimson beast eyes were the only thing Zhao Changsheng could see clearly.
"Damn it! Have they been keeping this thing here too?!" Zhao Changsheng cursed loudly, but she instinctively protected Jiang Yulian, standing in front of the petite but ready-to-attack Su Mo.
As the maned lion walked out of the iron gate, Su Mo, aided by her night-vision eyes, quickly assessed it from head to toe.
Its body was intact, almost 3 meters in length, exceptionally strong and her night-vision state allowed her to see that the lion’s body was virtually unscathed, well-kept by these cult villains.
As she assessed it, the lion, wary in the unfamiliar territory, seemed to be cautiously sizing her up as well.
The iron gate behind the lion was closed, and neither side made a move immediately.
Seeing this, the Empress at the top gave a meaningful look to someone beside her.
Jianxiong, who had just hurried over after checking on Lu Chen’s situation, arrived just in time to see a man shoot a blank at the lion’s rear.
The powerfully built lion, pained by the shot, roared so loudly it nearly shook the roof. Its forelimbs were down, its rear lifted high, and its tail flicked, attacking Su Mo at a speed so fast it left only a blur.
To avoid Jiang Yulian getting hurt, Su Mo didn’t hesitate and directly faced the lion. She dashed forward a few steps, then leaped onto the nearby damp concrete wall, flipping over behind the lion. She swung her blade, inflicting a wound on its body, while her free hand forcefully grabbed its tail.
Su Mo tried to prevent it from charging at people, but the difference in their weights was too great. The next second, the lion dragged her along the ground for several meters until she hit the body of a zombie she had killed earlier.
Seeing this, Zhao Changsheng immediately whipped out his Thunder Whip toward the lion’s head.
This lion was clever, snapping the whip in one bite. With a forceful shake of its massive head, Zhao Changsheng was slammed into the wall along with his Thunder Whip, which dissipated instantly.
The lion’s mouth turned slightly black from the electricity, but the difference in their levels meant it wasn’t seriously harmed. It turned its head and bit towards Su Mo, who was still dangling from its tail.
Su Mo immediately let go and rolled to the side. The gaping jaws snapped at empty air, and it seemed the mutant lion recognized that its greatest enemy was Su Mo.
It adopted a battle stance and charged at her again. The space was too cramped, surrounded by walls, and Su Mo had no room to utilize her abilities. Moreover, the lion was particularly intelligent and protected itself very well.
The room was dark, and Jiang Yulian couldn’t see. She was anxious and upset, unable to find a spot to attack, and thinking of Zhao Changsheng, she suddenly had an idea.
Jiang Yulian sat there and quickly gathered several large orbs of water, squinting her eyes to aim at the sporadically flashing red beast eyes. Relying only on the lion’s faint silhouette, she kept hurling the water orbs at it. However, the beast moved too quickly, and except for the increasing water on the ground and the zombie bodies, she rarely hit it.
The fruitless effort and blind chase disappointed the men above.
"It seems they are not fit to become Angels of God."
"Running like this until their superpower runs out, they won’t be able to kill this devil lion."
"..."
Jianxiong clung to the railing, terrified by the sight, yet on the surface, he dared not show the slightest fluctuation of emotion, as this lair was no simple place.
Now, all he could do was pray that his sister would succeed. When he turned his gaze to the injured Zhao Changsheng, a noticeable flicker of worry crossed his eyes.
Since the lion had been chasing Su Mo continuously until the ground was covered in water, Jiang Yulian finally managed to soak its fur completely.
Su Mo realized what Jiang Yulian was trying to do. Watching the water splashing under her continuous footsteps, she shouted to Zhao Changsheng, "Changsheng! Are you okay? Use electricity!"
Zhao Changsheng had been terribly shaken by the blow she received. Hearing Su Mo calling her, she staggered to her feet and said loudly with squinted eyes, "Too fast! I can’t see!"
Su Mo glanced around and yelled, "You are at the upper left corner now, I’ll run to the corner directly below you, when I give the command, attack!"
"Okay!" Zhao Changsheng was confident in precision-targeted attacks. She had observed the area before, and given its small size, it was impossible for her to miss as long as the coordinates were correct.
Su Mo took a deep breath, sincerely hoping Zhao Changsheng wouldn’t fail.
She stopped her steps, deliberately throwing the knife over her shoulder towards the lion that had been chasing her. The sharp knife grazed its muscled flank before falling to the ground.
It was provoked again by this human. With an angry roar, the mutant lion threw caution to the wind and charged at Su Mo with all its might, its side fur blowing in the wind with murderous intent.
It seemed determined to tear her to pieces.
