The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 346 - 345

Chapter 346: 345

Su Mo pulled his hand, looking at the table full of dishes, her round eyes curved with a smile tinged with a hint of coldness, "But you have to be alive to tell anyone."

...

"It’s about time," Li Ming stared at the night sky outside, chewing the gum in his mouth, his gaze fierce.

His small study was now crowded with people surrounding a radio, the faces of the burly men all ferociously intense.

One of them, full of confidence, said, "For the supplies of that one year, we have to give it our all. They are just five people, not to be feared."

Li Yun sat at the table, his facial features gentle, as he connected to the radio again, "When the sun rises tomorrow, meet at the signal tower."

After a burst of static, a response came from the other side, "We need them alive, three helicopters have been dispatched."

The signal was cut off, Li Yun nodded towards those burly men, and Li Ming led the people out.

Li Yun sat quietly for a while, then walked tremblingly onto the open ground in front of his house by himself. He rejected the help of Aunt Mei who had just come to with a face full of guilt, standing in front of two small dirt mounds dug up, with two wooden steles inserted on top.

Li Yun squatted down, his fingers brushing over the freshly carved inscriptions, a fatal tenderness in his voice as he spoke, "Did it hurt a lot this morning?"

He scooped up some earth with his hands and sprinkled it over the mounds, murmuring lowly with an apology, "If I could, I would have killed those people, but you understand, right? Li Ming is still alive; I can’t die yet. I have to lead them to survive."

After speaking, Li Yun pressed his face against the tombstone, his face filled with sorrow.

If Aunt Mei standing by had been more attentive, she might have noticed that the gentle yet decisively ruthless Governor, had tears falling from his eyes.

...

The table full of dishes was steaming gently. Su Mo didn’t wait long before there was a knock on the door. Through the window, she could vaguely see quite a few people.

The adults exchanged glances. Zhao Changsheng, who had been holding the child all afternoon, stood up from the sofa with the child in his arms and walked over to check the door.

All five adults’ eyes focused on the entrance.

Li Yun was not present. Only the black-vested and red-scarfed Li Ming arrived with more than a dozen tall and burly men.

There were so many people that the small house couldn’t accommodate them all at once.

Seeing them arrive, Su Mo stood next to Lu Chen, smiling, "You’re here early, would you like to join us for a meal?"

The burly men behind Li Ming hadn’t yet entered the house but had already smelled the tempting aroma in the air, unconsciously swallowing their saliva.

Li Ming walked in, his hands in his pockets, his eyes harboring a trace of ferocity, and he said quite politely, "We’re not here for the meal, we’ve come for the oil."

After speaking, he turned his gaze toward Lu Chen.

The man showed little reaction, pulling Su Mo to sit down at the dining table and taking chopsticks and bowls for themselves, "Let’s eat first."

The atmosphere froze for a moment, Jiang Yulian came out to smooth things over, "Right, right, let’s eat first."

Zhao Changsheng walked to the side of the sofa, kicking Li Qian’s calf, "Time to eat."

He warmed his eyes as he stood up, and the two of them took their seats at the table. Zhao Changsheng handed the child back to Jiang Yulian.

The child had been quietly staying in her arms all afternoon, neither fussing nor crying. She didn’t have too many complaints.

Once everyone sat down, Su Mo, ignoring the odd expressions of Li Ming at the back, served herself some rice, sat down, and started eating.

Li Ming and the dozen or so brothers he brought with him were completely ignored.

The dishes on the table looked enticing, and seeing that Su Mo and the others had swallowed their food, Li Ming figured nothing could possibly go wrong in his own house, so he called a few brothers to sit down. Noticing the full spread of both colorful vegetables and meat, he found it odd, "How did you preserve these vegetables?"

As Su Mo slowly ate some Bok Choy with her chopsticks, she casually made up an answer, "Lu Chen’s Space, before that heavy snowfall, we visited a vegetable farm, but most of it was rotten."

Li Ming nodded, reassured that they were really eating, and began to use his chopsticks, only eating what they had eaten, "I even thought Mr. Lu’s Space superpower had a preservation function."

He smacked his lips, finding the taste unexpectedly delicious.

The man slowly picked up some Fried Pork with his chopsticks for Su Mo, his voice faint, "You think too much."

At this point, Su Mo was sure that not everyone’s Space was restrictive, but Lu Chen had always been very good at keeping secrets.

Following him, two or three strong men sat down, while the rest could only stand in the corner and watch eagerly.

Pretending to ponder for a moment, Su Mo then took some bowls out of the cupboard, grabbed the not-so-attractive-looking Pearl Lotus Root Meatballs, put one in each bowl—totaling just seven or eight meatballs—placed one in her own bowl, and handed the rest to those strong men.

"You try too, the appearance isn’t great."

Those standing watched each other, then all looked towards Li Ming.

Li Ming appeared skeptical but, seeing Su Mo eat herself, he nodded to those behind him.

In fact, Su Mo hadn’t swallowed the meatball. Seeing that the group of strong men had eaten theirs, she discreetly spat out the small piece still in her mouth back into her bowl.

Lu Chen saw her subtle action, his eyes first tightened, then relaxed.

"Huh?"

The strong men who ate the meatballs indeed heard that notification sound in their ears.

Some of them unbelievably fiddled with their ears.

"Li..."

"How does it taste?" Jiang Yulian suddenly spoke up, cradling her child and soothing it, her tone gentle, "I used to make these meatballs for my husband, and he loved them very much."

Su Mo looked at Jiang Yulian, Aunt Jiang, why...

Was she deliberately misleading the conversation because she feared danger?

One of the strong men raised the bowl in his hand, took another bite, and not hearing the notification anymore, he said uncertainly yet hesitantly, "The taste is all right."

Jiang Yulian covered her mouth and chuckled, "Then eat more."

The few people holding bowls in the living room had varied expressions, all thinking they might have heard wrong.

The fleeting notification sound, when spoken about, indeed seemed somewhat absurd and laughable.

Seeing their reactions, Su Mo thought for a few seconds, then stood up to prepare more bowls, calling out to those still standing outside, "Come and eat. There are no more meatballs, but there’s plenty of Fried Pork left."

This way, the dozen superpower users who came all had some meat.

But the dishes Su Mo made, only the Pearl Lotus Root Meatballs were made in the system pot; those who ate the Fried Pork showed no reaction.

So when someone asked if they had heard any strange sounds, the answer was a crisp shake of the head.

This small crisis was thus resolved, more or less without risk.

After the meal, Su Mo and Jiang Yulian started to collect the bowls; the bowls used by the strong men were original to the house. The two women separated them out, Jiang Yulian stored water, and Su Mo washed.
