The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 337 - 336: Trade

Chapter 337: Chapter 336: Trade

Li Ming’s thank-you this time carried a touch of sincerity.

"Li Ming, has the outside fallen?" an elderly woman asked, supported by her grandson, worry etched on a face that was otherwise healthy-looking.

Li Ming stood up and shook his head, "Who the heck said that? It’s not true."

"So many injured people returned today... My son," the old woman started fearfully, "He’s the only child I have. If he’s injured..."

"Don’t worry, as long as they haven’t turned into zombies, the epidemic prevention zone will take in everyone," Li Ming said, glancing at the sun overhead, "It’s almost noon; better head back and have lunch."

After briefly greeting Su Mo and the others, he pushed his wife’s wheelchair back into their house, the closed door cutting off all outside views.

The old woman sighed and was about to leave when Li Qian stopped her with a question, "Has the epidemic prevention zone been attacked by zombies before?"

She turned back, nodding tremulously, "Yes, our epidemic prevention zone has a strict policy against zombies. The horror of that time..."

As if recalling the past, her wrinkled eyes dimmed, "Many children and women were bitten, even the Governor’s... Ah, that lady was a superpower user."

Seemingly too pained to continue, she sighed heavily and walked away, supported by her grandson.

"We might be able to guess what’s in that attic now," Li Qian said, touching his glasses, a sharp light flashing in his eyes.

The woman was far off, but Su Mo had picked up something extremely useful from the few words spoken. She thought for a moment, then tugged on Lu Chen’s sleeve and whispered, "I have a bold idea I want to verify."

The man looked down at her, then curved his thin lips, "Sure."

"Momo, take me with you," Zhao Changsheng sidled up to Su Mo, making faces at her.

Su Mo shook her head and pushed her away, "I reckon you’d be spotted as soon as you get close to Li Yun’s dome."

Zhao Changsheng crossed her arms, looking discontentedly at the small building with plastic roses, grumbling, "That’s really the case."

"Let’s go back first."

...

By nightfall, He Fei had led people to search every possible place in the safe zone for the missing student, but to no avail. Nobody knew how he disappeared, until one boy confidently stated that the missing student had used tools to break through the net and escape. With that, the matter came to a close.

The few who were initially planning how to sneak into Li Yun’s house at night were interrupted by an unexpected invitation.

It turned out that, with everyone from the boundary now back, Li Yun was planning a small gathering.

After people left.

Su Mo guessed Li Yun’s intention right away, "He’s trying to stabilize people’s hearts, considering how chaotic it is outside and the residents inside are bound to have heard something."

Lu Chen rubbed her head, "A tight string will eventually snap."

Li Qian spoke with a warm voice, "An opportunity delivered to our doorstep."

Su Mo nodded, then glanced outside at the sky, "It’s still early; I’ll go make some rice soup for Ling Ye. He must be suffering from hunger by now."

She went to the kitchen and also boiled water for Jiang Yulian to make formula, who stood beside Su Mo holding her baby, whispering, "I heard so much from you all, has something big happened outside again?"

"City G is not at peace," Su Mo replied.

Jiang Yulian patted her child’s hand, her eyes slightly dimming, "Who knows when we’ll finally be able to settle down."

"That day will come," Su Mo smiled at her.

After making an especially thin rice porridge, Su Mo waited for it to cool down before calling Lu Chen to the children’s room together.

Ling Ye now lacked the ability to eat by himself, and even feeding him porridge required caution to prevent it from entering his windpipe.

Lu Chen propped up his small body, and Su Mo carefully spoon-fed him, though more porridge flowed out than stayed in, fortunately, some still made it into his stomach.

"What if he really does have the secret to evolution in him?" Su Mo said, wiping away the rice grains from Ling Ye’s mouth while the man laid him back down.

Lu Chen spoke in his bland voice, "I’m just afraid it’s not evolution."

Su Mo looked at him, moved her lips, and finally said, "Let’s go."

The two left the children’s room one after the other, and outside the door, Zhao Changsheng and Li Qian were already waiting.

Jiang Yulian stayed to take care of the children, so she didn’t come.

Lu Chen had left dinner for her, and the four of them left the house.

"When the time comes, do it as we agreed. You’ll cover from outside, and I’ll go up from the back," Su Mo said, spreading her palm with her spiked fluff standing upright.

The location of their gathering still was in front of Li Yun’s house.

Unlike last time, the clearing was now full of people, young and old alike, mostly the relatives of these strong men or women they had brought back to be their wives, and He Fei and his group were also prominently present, after all, it was a free feast.

A whole wild boar was divided into several pieces and placed on various grills, with the enticing aroma of meat wafting from afar, which Su Mo could smell from a distance, Li Yun was really spending a lot this time.

However, after Su Mo and her companions arrived, despite greeting He Fei and his group, they did not see Li Ming and his companion.

With many eyes around, she dared not act rashly and kept chatting with her companions, making casual conversation on the clearing.

In Li Ming’s study.

The radio, under the brothers’ anticipation, finally received a response, "We agree, five high-efficiency hysteria medicines and a year’s worth of supplies in exchange. If the Evolution Potion is successfully extracted, you will be the first beneficiaries."

Li Ming was visibly thrilled. His wife had developed hysteria a year ago, and as the apocalypse unfolded without consistent medication, her condition became increasingly severe to the current state. Now with medicine within reach, how could he not be overjoyed?

Li Yun was much calmer. A year’s worth of supplies and the Evolution Potion were enough to excite him. He grasped the microphone and asked in a deep voice, "Where’s the trade location?"

A burst of static crackled through the speaker, then the voice changed, revealing a somewhat excited middle-aged male voice, "We’ve looked at the satellite map. The zombie density near your border is high. Go to the signal tower. Our helicopter will come for the pickup, and the supplies will be dropped directly to you."

"Three days from now, I’ll have people waiting at the signal tower for you," Li Yun finished, ready to cut off the signal, but the man on the other side added, "Ensure the safety of the subject and Su Mo."

Mentioning Su Mo specifically... Li Yun cut off the signal, his eyes filled with contemplation.

"Brother, Tongtong can be saved," Li Ming slapped the table and stood up, glowing with hope.

Li Yun wasn’t nearly as thrilled. He got up and casually walked to the door of the study, then turned to look at him, "Don’t forget, those guys are not easy. How to get them out without anyone noticing is still a problem, and we also need to consider the zombies outside."

Li Ming, upon hearing this, didn’t take it too seriously, simply saying, "We have so many people, we could bind and take them over."

Li Yun was neither as violent nor as optimistic, his expression serious, "This must be foolproof. This person, Su Mo, she reminds me of something."

Li Ming: "What?"
