Chapter 328: Chapter 327: I Finally Found You
Su Mo suddenly felt a prickling sensation on her back, and she abruptly turned to look behind her at the dormitory buildings, "Haven’t you guys noticed something off?"
Seeing her uneasy expression, Li Qian meticulously scanned the Refining Factory again and said, "I can’t detect anything."
Zhao Changsheng followed her gaze toward the row of rooms in the dormitory building, "Momo, is there something there?"
Su Mo stared for a long while and then shook her head, removing the cloth that was wrapped around her face, "It might be my imagination, the cloth was making it hard to breathe."
Lu Chen, sitting next to her and noticing her troubled expression, quickly positioned his chair in front of himself along with her.
The man’s broad back blocked the probing gazes.
Su Mo immediately felt much better, thinking that she might have been overreacting.
The four of them sat quietly, with He Fei and Li Ming busily moving in the distance.
For lunch, they had their own dry food, while Su Mo and the others had some canned vegetables provided by Lu Chen.
Compared to the bustling outside, on the first floor of the dormitory building, a small hand suddenly appeared on the window. The little figure that had been lying on the wooden bed had unknowingly moved to the window, its pale pupils silently locking onto the four people through the window.
Nothing unusual had occurred outside the earthen wall even until the afternoon.
And the oil from the oil refining factory was almost ready.
He Fei whispered something into Li Ming’s ear, then pointed at Lu Chen with an intact arm.
Li Ming nodded and walked over to Lu Chen, the reason being to ask him to store the oil.
Their Space Superpower User had already filled their entire space with oil, so the freshly refined oil had to be stored by Lu Chen now.
Lu Chen, of course, would not refuse such a readily offered bargaining chip; he stood up from his chair and reached out to Su Mo, "Do you want to come with me?"
Su Mo turned her head, glancing at the dormitory, "You go ahead, I’ll wait for you here."
"Okay," the man ruffled her hair and followed Li Ming to the shed where they were filling oil barrels.
The moment he left, that prickling sensation returned. Su Mo knew this definitely was not her illusion anymore.
Not long after Lu Chen had left, she stood up and boldly looked toward the dormitory building. The sensation was strange, she didn’t know what was there, nor could she feel the slightest hint of hostility.
Thinking it over, she said, "I’ll go check out the dormitory."
"I’ll go with you," Zhao Changsheng stood up from his chair, ready to accompany her.
"No, you and Li Qian wait here for me," Su Mo shook her head in refusal, "I’ll be right back."
Zhao Changsheng, unable to protest, could only watch her walk away with a dry look.
Su Mo took strides toward the dormitory building.
Watching that delicate figure approaching step by step, the little person left the window and, as Su Mo opened the door to the room, it crawled into the old wardrobe.
Su Mo didn’t go anywhere else, but directly to the room she had once lived in.
The room was empty as everything had been cleared out, but it was still very clean due to the tidying.
Su Mo looked outside to see Li Qian and Zhao Changsheng gazing intently at her.
After thinking it over, looking at the clean room, she slowly closed the dorm room door.
"What is Momo doing?" Zhao Changsheng was puzzled by her actions. Just as she was about to go over, Li Qian grabbed her wrist, "Wait."
Zhao Changsheng shook off his hand, "What if something happens?"
"Wait a bit longer, there must be a reason for her actions."
Inside the house.
Su Mo walked around the bed and facing the empty room, she softly said, "Come out."
After her words fell, the house was dead silent, without any sound.
Was she being paranoid?
Su Mo pursed her lips, feeling that she was not, and said again, "If you don’t come out, I’ll leave."
She pretended to walk towards the door when a "creak" from behind made her stop. It was the sound of friction from the closet door.
She turned around, her gaze fixed on the old cabinet, her alertness peaked yet without a trace of fear, a feeling that was indeed somewhat magical.
Under her gaze, a pale small hand grasped the closet door.
That abnormally pale skin tone, Su Mo knew, belonged to a small zombie.
Her right hand immediately produced a Tang Blade.
As the closet door opened wider, half of the small zombie’s body was revealed, its upper body bare and covered with numerous large and small scars, without any clothes, the outline of its ribs visible, only its stomach bulging.
The first image Su Mo’s retina sent to her brain was emaciated, this zombie was too thin.
As her gaze moved up the tragic body, the face that overlapped with her memory made her fall into shock.
It was that child!
"Yang.. Yichu?"
Her voice carried a subtle tremble, the tightly held blade in her hand almost dropped to the ground.
This child, whom she felt pity for and who was obedient, had become a zombie!?
"Sister, sister," under her shocked gaze, it struggled to call her sister.
Su Mo unconsciously stepped back, "You.. how" can you talk!
Her pupils dilated involuntarily, could it all be it? Was it seeking her out?!
"Don’t, be afraid of me," Yang Yichu looked somewhat hurt by her gaze, his small mouth pouting in a human-like manner.
Su Mo felt the world was somewhat magical; her hand shook for a while, but eventually, she slowly lowered the Tang Blade.
"Sister, sister," it slowly raised its hands towards her, its pale eyes showing human-like joy, "I came, to find you, are you, happy?"
Despite her pity for the child, Su Mo couldn’t bring herself to point the blade at it, yet she didn’t go up to hug it but stood in place with a complex look in her eyes. She couldn’t yet determine if it was good or bad, perhaps it was a trap?
Rationality ultimately prevailed over emotion; Su Mo stood still, slowly squatting down in front of it at a not too distant place to level her gaze, "How did you.. turn into this?"
Yang Yichu appeared exceptionally dejected at Su Mo’s failure to embrace him. He lowered his hands and tilted his head mechanically to one side, as if thinking.
Su Mo quietly squatted in front of him, outwardly calm but inwardly turbulent. This was the first zombie she had seen in months since the apocalypse that could talk and think, almost human-like, and it was a child she cared for!
This realization made her heart sink.
"Shipwreck, such huge waves," Yang Yichu’s voice turned somewhat shrill, that sad and desperate expression appeared on his face as he began to step toward Su Mo, "Only you are left, sister, only you."
Su Mo bit her lip, recalling the giant waves, tens of meters high she encountered on Southern Island. So, it had swallowed up Tanghai City as well.
"Have you always been looking for me?"
Due to somewhat stiff skin, Yang Yichu struggled to pull up an ugly smile, "Yes, I finally, found you."
