Chapter 325 - 324: Ling Ye’s Abnormality
Chapter 325: Chapter 324: Ling Ye’s Abnormality
This little interlude didn’t last long.
Li Ming hurried to the gate, the war vehicle that had attracted the attention of the Mutant Dogs had safely returned.
And it had brought back some astonishing news.
Zombies had explosively increased overnight, and the intelligence, speed, and strength of many High-level Zombies had made new leaps.
The people on the war vehicle were still shaken, they had barely made it back.
The oil refining had to be moved up the schedule as quickly as possible.
...
Just as Su Mo and Lu Chen had finished taking a shower and were about to snuggle into bed, the wooden planks of the door downstairs were being knocked on, creating bursts of noise.
The two exchanged a glance and went downstairs.
Li Qian, who slept on the first floor with Ling Ye, welcomed the person inside first, "Li Ming? What’s the matter so late at night?"
"We will set out for the Refining Factory first thing tomorrow morning, there’s been a surge in zombies outside, we need to go out and scout the situation."
Li Qian turned his head to look at Lu Chen and Su Mo, who were coming down from upstairs, "What do you say?"
The man walked to the doorway, "Early tomorrow morning, huh?"
Li Ming nodded, he smiled and leaned against the doorframe, "This will be our first time cooperating on a mission, Mr. Lu won’t refuse to give face, right?"
Lu Chen replied in a calm voice, "A promise made is a promise kept."
"Good, straightforward, we’ll meet at the gate tomorrow morning," Li Ming let go of the doorframe and walked out the entryway, his silhouette disappearing into the night.
Close the door.
It was then that Su Mo spoke, "They sure are quick, after we help them retrieve the oil tomorrow, we need to push up our departure schedule."
Lu Chen put an arm around her shoulder, "Alright."
Zhao Changsheng, without knowing when, had come downstairs, she leaned on the banister and asked, "So we have a new mission so soon?"
Su Mo nodded, speaking to her, "Go get some sleep, we have to get up early tomorrow."
The four people dispersed, and the small building returned to tranquility.
From the moment Li Ming said goodbye and left on his way back, his expression had been somewhat irritable, the evolution and increase of the zombie horde were not good news for them.
Returning to his own house, just as he was about to go upstairs to see his wife, a voice calling for help came from the radio in the study on the first floor.
"Li Ming! Li Ming! There are zombie hordes on the border! Li Ming! Are you there?"
In the noisy environment, there were also human screams and zombie roars.
Li Ming was startled, he immediately pulled the door open and strode over, pressed the button, picked up the receiver and said, "Hello? I’m here! What’s happening?!"
"There are zombie hordes at the border, we’ve already had two points breached! Repeat! There are zombie hordes at the border! We’ve already had two points breached! They seem to be searching for..."
The person on the other side hadn’t finished speaking when a harsh electric noise followed, and then there was no more sound, only the static "shasha" of snowflake interference.
Li Ming pressed the button again, speaking into the microphone, "Hello?! Hello?!"
His pupils suddenly dilated, he threw down the receiver and rushed out of the study, his panicked steps heading straight for Li Yun’s house.
"Brother, there’s news from the border defense points!" Li Ming charged into the building, taking the stairs two at a time.
Li Yun was sitting on a chair, his legs covered with a blanket, flipping through a family album. Seeing him burst in flustered, he closed the album, "What’s so urgent?"
"There’s a large invasion of zombies at the border, I’m going to take a look," Li Ming told him quickly and spun around, ready to rush back downstairs.
"Stop!" Li Yun called out to him, his brows furrowed tightly, "Our main concern now is the oil, and besides, it’s late at night, it’s unsafe."
Li Ming turned his head anxiously to look at him, "Then tomorrow I’ll take them along and check on my way."
Li Yun nodded, his palm caressing the family photo. His warm voice carried a chill, "If there’s danger, retreat."
"Understood."
...
As the first light shone into the room, Su Mo opened her eyes on time. When there were serious matters, she never lingered in bed.
The man next to her also opened his eyes almost at the same time. He cast his hand to pull her into his embrace for a kiss before they both got up.
Today was an important day.
The two went downstairs. Su Mo cooked some plain congee and stir-fried a bowl of pickled vegetables for their breakfast.
While she and Jiang Yulian were setting the bowls and chopsticks, they heard some noise from a room on the first floor. She called out towards it, "Tell Ling Ye to get up too, don’t just stay in the room all the time."
The door opened, and only Li Qian walked out.
"There seems to be a problem with Ling Ye," he approached the table with a puzzled expression.
Su Mo set down her chopsticks and wiped her hands, her heart suddenly tensing, "What’s wrong? Is he injured, or is there bleeding? Did you get splashed?"
Li Qian shook his head, "He’s not injured, nor is there bleeding. You should take a look, I can’t tell if it’s caused by the medicine."
Su Mo bypassed the table and went straight into the room. Inside the child’s room plastered with posters, Ling Ye sat on the bed, staring blankly at the figurine in his hands.
She walked over and sat beside his bed, her hand touching his face, which was very cold.
Li Qian followed into the room and said from behind, "Yesterday he was playing with these anime characters all the time in the room, he could speak at night but didn’t have much energy. I thought he was just tired, but this morning he became like this."
So he had been not quite right since yesterday, and indeed, they had been somewhat negligent with him lately because of the many events.
"Ling Ye?" Su Mo called several times, and the boy turned his head mechanically, "Sister Su?"
Su Mo, after all, was not a scientific researcher and couldn’t know what the problem was with Ling Ye. She had no choice but to ask in as gentle a voice as possible, "Are you hungry, do you want to eat something?"
"Eat?" A glint of blue flashed across Ling Ye’s dulled round eyes, and he licked his cracked lips, "I’m so hungry, Sister Su, really hungry."
His small hand reached for his stomach, continuously kneading it.
"I’ll get it," said Lu Chen, who was standing by the door without anyone noticing. At her words, he turned and left to get the congee.
Zhao Changsheng walked into the room, stood at the foot of the bed, and bent over to look at him, "We’ve been feeding him three meals a day, how can this kid look like he hasn’t eaten for days?"
Su Mo frowned, unsure for the moment. Lu Chen returned with the congee, followed by Jiang Yulian who was also worriedly holding a child, "He was fine yesterday, could he have gotten cold during the night?"
Su Mo took the congee, stirred it with a spoon to cool the steam inside, and then fed it to Ling Ye.
Li Qian slightly opened the window in the child’s room, speaking softly, "Let some air in; he might have been cooped up for too long."
Ling Ye’s head was lowered, his slightly longer bangs almost covering half his eyes. As long as Su Mo fed him, he would open his mouth to eat, very obediently.
Ling Ye finished the entire bowl of congee but still looked as despondent and famished as before.
Su Mo handed the bowl to Lu Chen and reached out to wipe the grains of rice from Ling Ye’s mouth, "Still hungry?"
"So hungry, want to eat," Ling Ye raised his head somewhat confusedly, the hand tightly covering his stomach drawing Lu Chen’s attention.
"Is it the Crystal Stone you want to eat?" he asked, frowning.
Su Mo turned to look at him, her eyes filled with surprise, "Crystal Stone? You’re not suggesting it’s the original body’s Crystal Stone, are you?"
