Chapter 319: Chapter 318: Temporary Settlement

Li Qian’s gaze held a hint of wariness. Although his superpower had suffered a heavy blow in the afternoon, he could clearly see among his kin the green threads that danced in the air, entwining around everyone’s head.

Except for Lu Chen and Su Mo, everyone was wrapped up in those green threads, including Li Qian himself.

Earlier, they had all eaten Su Mo’s finished product, Fried Pork, which came with a state of unlimited shielding against equal levels of spiritual power.

If it hadn’t worn off, then the person upstairs, Li Yun, must be a Level 5 power user.

Li Qian’s brain worked at lightning speed, and once he grasped this possibility, he concealed his thoughts.

Li Yun had spoken only grandiose and impressive words, his purpose being nothing more than to persuade all the foreign superpower users to stay.

He appeared to be in poor health, and after catching some cold wind, he went inside.

As the door on the second floor closed, the open space below buzzed with renewed activity.

Su Mo diverted her gaze just to see Li Qian wearing a somewhat stern expression.

"What’s wrong?" she asked.

Without speaking, Li Qian waited until those green threads were all withdrawn, then spoke in an extremely low voice, "That’s a Level 5 spiritual power user."

Su Mo was taken aback. She had an innate ability to shield spiritual power, so she hadn’t noticed anything amiss on her body, but then she turned to look at Lu Chen, who nodded in response to her gaze.

The moment that spiritual power tried to entangle him, he had sensed something was off, but it was unsuccessful.

"It seems that their purpose is just for us to stay here," said Li Qian. "For now, I do not sense any malice from him."

Su Mo wiped her mouth, "Then we should all be careful."

After the meal, Laoba, who had been rude to Su Mo, came back with his face swollen from a burst blister, followed by a woman and a child.

Their target was He Fei.

When He Fei, with his vacant eyes, saw the woman who had been forced once more, he froze, "You... you..."

He stammered out several "you"s without completing his sentence.

Not too far away, Su Mo heard the woman’s explanation to He Fei crystal clear.

It turned out to be voluntary on the woman’s part, and although there were many people present at the time, she didn’t entertain them all.

Once the big misunderstanding was cleared, He Fei didn’t speak for a long time while those around him with superpowers began to look at him differently.

In their view, with the misunderstanding resolved, the epidemic prevention zone seemed like an excellent shelter, and aligning with them seemed quite acceptable.

Li Ming came out from the building and walked straight over to Lu Chen and Su Mo, "Your accommodation is ready. Let’s go, everyone."

He seemed to have heard something from Li Yun and was being exceptionally polite toward Lu Chen and Su Mo.

The group stood up, and Su Mo pointed in the direction of He Fei and asked, "What about them?"

"Their accommodations will be arranged by Laoba," Li Ming led the way ahead, guiding them away.

Su Mo didn’t ask further and followed his lead. As they moved away, upstairs in the attic, Li Yun sat at a dining table with plates of sliced raw meat in front of him, opposite a mother and daughter bound with steel wire to their chairs.

"Time to eat," he said, picking up a fork and tenderly feeding a piece of raw meat to the woman whose pupils were turning white.

...

Su Mo and the others were arranged to stay in one of the small western houses along this road, near the middle, just two stories tall.

The walls, a mosaic of red and white tiles, greeted them as they ascended the entrance steps. Li Ming handed the keys he was holding to Lu Chen, "This is the key to the house. Someone has already cleaned the inside, have sweet dreams tonight."

He waved at the group, then descended the steps and turned to leave.

Lu Chen unlocked the door and stepped inside.

Immediately upon entering was a modest living room. The man found the light switch and pressed it, discovering there was electricity; the room lit up.

The decor of the interior tended towards cozy, with beige floral wallpaper enveloping the entire living room. A soft fabric sofa and a wooden coffee table were placed on the left, and to the right, there was a bedroom.

Su Mo entered to take a look; it was a child’s bedroom, the walls plastered with posters of Iron Man and Spiderman. The bed had been made up, and on a shelf beside it lay many dust-covered figurines.

It was evident that the previous inhabitant of the room had been a boy.

Ling Ye fell in love with the place at first glance.

The innocence of a child is innate to all of them.

Without a doubt, this bedroom was given to Ling Ye.

However, the house was quite small. Aside from an open-plan kitchen and dining area deeper inside the first floor, there were no more rooms.

There were only two master bedrooms on the second floor.

After Li Qian had checked around the house to ensure there were no issues, he volunteered to sleep in Ling Ye’s children’s bed. Of the two rooms upstairs, one was given to Su Mo and Lu Chen, the other to Zhao Changsheng and Jiang Yulian.

Once everything was allocated, Lu Chen led Su Mo by the hand into their second-floor bedroom, "Rest well."

Su Mo walked into the bedroom, which had a wooden floor covered by a carpet. Inside was a soft, tidy bed and a television that could play DVDs. The toilet was outside the room, shared between the two rooms at the end of the corridor.

Su Mo sat on the bed and bounced a little before lying back down, "No wonder that Guo Hua is so supportive of the epidemic prevention zone. In a post-apocalyptic world, this is practically paradise."

Lu Chen sat down beside her, patted her thigh, and took out her nightgown and toiletries, "Go wash up and then get some sleep."

Getting up, Su Mo took off her coat, received the items, and headed towards the door, calling out, "Also, take a couple of sets of clothes and some diapers to Aunt Jiang’s kid, and ask if she needs anything."

"Alright," the man stood up and went to the next room as instructed.

Su Mo made her way to the bathroom at the end of the corridor. Everything inside was just as it had been, with a white porcelain bathtub. She tried the faucet. When black water came out, she quickly shut it off.

Clearly, the water here was unusable.

She boiled a pot of hot water for her wash and then boiled a few more pots to pour into the bathtub.

Thinking of Ling Ye and Li Qian downstairs, she asked Lu Chen for some of Ling Ye’s clothes and took a set of sportswear from the System Bag to give to Li Qian.

There was also a restroom on the first floor, where she prepared a tub of hot water for them before heading back up.

Once everyone had washed up, it was Lu Chen’s turn. Su Mo returned to the bedroom and sat on the clean carpet in front of the television.

Beneath the TV, inside a cabinet, were numerous DVDs available for playing.

Since the entire house had power, Su Mo attempted to turn on the television. It was just static, but the DVD player was operational.

No internet connection was needed; you simply had to insert the DVD into the player for it to read and play the movie.

Su Mo was somewhat excited and started sorting through a heap of DVDs.

When Lu Chen came back, various movies were scattered about the floor. He had to step over a few to reach her, and then he picked her up from the ground, "Want to watch a movie?"
