The Chef Rules the Last Days -
Chapter 314 - 313: Smoking
Chapter 314: Chapter 313: Smoking
It seemed that they knew Lu Chen was not easy to provoke, so these robust men were quite polite to them.
He Fei and the others were arranged to sit in the middle of the carriage, it was crowded but there was still room to sit down.
Su Mo sat close to Lu Chen, and she was curious that there was no trace of desire in the eyes of these robust men towards the group of female students, even an extra glance seemed superfluous.
She turned her gaze away, looking towards the only window in their vicinity that was fitted with iron bars.
Some of the robust men who had gotten off earlier were moving He Fei and their supplies from the cafeteria to the rooftop, and Li Ming was clearly very pleased with these provisions.
There was some noise from the dormitory building, and when Mu Rou came down from upstairs, she startled Li Ming, who almost mistook her for a zombie and shot her.
Upon realizing she was a female superpower user, his attitude improved significantly, and he invited her onto the vehicle.
Mu Rou got on the bus with a calm face, sitting herself in a corner, her half-exposed face looking terrifying.
When she caught Su Mo’s gaze, she even tried to force a smile, though it still looked quite ugly.
Su Mo returned the smile, but suddenly realized that among these people, He Rong was absent.
The people from the epidemic prevention zone had cleared out everything from the cafeteria, piling it all on the top of the vehicle.
Faintly, Su Mo could hear someone shouting from behind the modified vehicle, "Hurry up! The zombies are encircling us again."
Li Ming stepped onto the vehicle and said to the group of students inside, "Secure yourselves, we are about to leave."
The vehicle’s door began to close, the vehicle slowly backed out of the breached gate, zombies started appearing in everyone’s view, and the metal container’s outer shell screeched with numerous harrowing scratches, some of the students huddled together on the floor, shivering.
Just then, a figure suddenly ran out from the living quarters, crossing arms over their head and shouting frantically, "Wait for me! Wait for me!"
Su Mo looked through the windshield in front of the driver’s seat, it was He Rong.
She had been left behind.
Li Ming really couldn’t feel any interest in another girl without her eyeballs, especially since he couldn’t sense any superpower energy from her.
"Just go," he patted the driver seated at the front.
He Fei looked toward Mu Rou sitting emotionless and his expression was complex, "Can we give her a quick end?"
Li Ming turned his head to look at him, then smiled, "We can."
He adjusted the scarf around his neck and pulled out a handgun from his waist, half his body leaning out the side window of the passenger seat as he pulled the trigger.
He Rong’s pleas for help got stuck in her throat, her one eye’s pupil dilated, the impact of the bullet made her fall to the ground with a hole in her forehead, her head burst open.
A moment of silence on the bus.
The only sound was a few men in the front seat laughing heartily, completely unaffected by the emotions of the students behind them.
Su Mo withdrew her gaze as the vehicle pulled away, escorted by two military vehicles on either side, both converted from civilian vehicles and equipped with heavy machine guns atop.
The people inside these vehicles opened the windows, killed the incoming zombies with their superpowers, and with only their hands toward the broken gate, a three-meter-high earthen wall rose from the ground, once again sealing off the much-coveted Refining Factory.
Uncle Hua, who had been sitting in a corner all this while, was now completely relaxed and leaning back in the vehicle.
"Uncle Hua, well done," Li Ming closed the window on the passenger side and came over to Uncle Hua, complimenting him.
"Sure," Guo Hua extended his hand, his finger twitched.
Li Ming chuckled merrily and readily took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, stuffing one directly into Guo Hua’s mouth and igniting it with a flame from his fingertip.
At that moment, He Fei seemed frozen as he sat on the chair, staring intently at their interaction. "You two... know each other?"
Guo Hua touched the stubble on his face, exhaled a ring of smoke, and didn’t deny, "Yes".
"You lied to me!" He Fei stood up from the chair suddenly, swinging his fist towards Guo Hua’s face, but Li Ming easily caught it. He shook off his hand and pushed him back into his seat, "Whoa, young man, cool it."
"How can I cool it! You had it all planned from the start, didn’t you!"
If glares could kill, under He Fei’s gaze, Guo Hua wouldn’t know how many times he would have been slain by dagger-like stares.
He finally began to grasp the situation, connecting some ignored memories in his mind—why he had repeatedly defended the epidemic prevention zone, why, before the rat plague arrived, he instigated discord between the students and them leading to the tragic death of half of them,
why the epidemic prevention zone knew so quickly that they had come to the Refining Factory, and why they had only one bus to pick them up; it was all orchestrated by them!
Realizing this, He Fei’s head started to buzz with dizziness. Li Ming pushed him back into the seat, and he found it hard to recover for a long time.
Li Qian shook his head, a hint of pity in his eyes behind his glasses, "He finally understood."
Lu Chen looked out the window, his gaze profound, his voice faint. "Regardless of the process, some outcomes are inevitable."
Su Mo couldn’t help but look towards him, sighing softly, "Who can say otherwise? If these ordinary students don’t evolve, then extinction was an inevitable outcome, sooner or later."
Everyone is pitiable, but that’s just how the world is.
Li Ming chatted with Guo Hua for a bit more and then, supporting himself against the swaying metal train car, walked over to Lu Chen with two cigarettes in hand, "Want one, Hua Zi?"
"He doesn’t smoke, thank you," Su Mo declined for Lu Chen immediately. She didn’t like the smell of smoke clinging to her man, especially during the time he had lost his memory—it was a depressive and heart-rending phase.
Li Ming gave a knowing glance at the girl beside Lu Chen and put away the cigarettes, even complimenting, "Good taste."
Lu Chen gave him a cold look, a warning in his eyes.
Clearly protective, Li Ming didn’t dare push any further, knowing that a Level 5 Superpower User was not to be trifled with.
Turning back, he offered the cigarette to Li Qian, "Brother, want one?"
Before Li Qian could refuse, Zhao Changsheng next to him reached out and took it. "I’ll have it."
"Wild girl," Li Ming noted approvingly after a quick appraisal of the woman in front of him—her wasp waist, perky buttocks, and long legs, top-notch.
He reached out to light the cigarette she had already placed in her mouth.
His hand hadn’t even touched her when Li Qian quickly plucked the cigarette from her lips, bending it and grinding it under his foot, a rage emanating from him.
"Why’d you snatch my cigarette!" Zhao Changsheng, legs crossed, looked like she was about to get angry.
Li Qian’s lips moved, pointing to Jiang Yulian and Ling Ye beside him and muttered with restraint, "There are children."
Their conversation was overheard by Su Mo sitting in front, and she turned to soothe Zhao Changsheng, "Li Qian is right. Don’t smoke; I don’t like it either."
Zhao Changsheng deflated like a balloon poked by a needle, her temper gone, "It’s ruined. I won’t smoke then."
