Chapter 313: Chapter 312: Visitors from the Epidemic Prevention Zone

"You should know that in this world without laws or morals, a single piece of bread could become a deadly trigger. Going to the epidemic prevention zone, you won’t be able to protect them," Lu Chen’s words were calm and even, but they also depicted the most realistic world at present.

"I know," He Fei stammered, "No matter the result, if they can survive, it’s also the best I can do."

Zhao Changsheng couldn’t help but whisper to Su Mo, "A great benefactor like this, it’s the first time we’ve seen one all the way from City A till here."

Su Mo pinched her arm, "It’s a beautiful character trait, but it’s just not encouraged nowadays."

Jiang Yulian, who was holding a child, couldn’t help but speak out to advise, "Child, in these end times, you must live for yourself; no one will appreciate your sacrifices."

He Fei raised his head, straightened his back, and laughed, "Yes, I understand."

He just couldn’t let go.

After the conversation ended, the students started getting up one after another, as they only had one meal at noon now, they dared not forget.

When going to the cafeteria for a meal, Su Mo saw that most of them had swollen eyes and looked quite haggard.

When eyes met, one could also see a hint of unspeakable resentment in the students’ eyes.

Making them work all night made them unhappy, Su Mo withdrew her gaze, pinching the chopsticks in her hand and poking at the dough soup made with flour in her bowl.

As usual, it was bland and tasteless.

"Bang!"

Not long after sitting down to eat, an explosion was heard outside again.

Everyone was shocked and rushed outside; everyone wanted to know what had happened outside the walls amidst the continuous explosions.

Su Mo and others calmly finished their meal and wiped their mouths before slowly walking out to the open space.

Guo Hua stood on the iron frame behind the earthen wall, shouting with a gun slung on his back, even his hat being blown off didn’t affect his excitement, "The zombies are all lured away! The zombies are all lured away!"

Lu Chen asked Li Qian, "What’s the situation outside?"

Li Qian stared at the earthen wall, his eyes seemingly penetrating it, his psychic network opened, and then he replied, "Indeed, there are enough zombies outside for us to break through, but..."

He paused, "They are here."

Outside the wall, a piercing siren horn was heard.

Guo Hua saw the lead vehicle, a huge, sharpened retrofit truck, and immediately ran down the frame, "Get out of the way! They are coming straight in! Get out of the way!"

The students, who were still confused, instantly scattered, each both excited and terrified.

They all heard the beeping of the cars outside and the incessant gunfire.

Someone had come to rescue them!

The iron frame behind the earthen wall was promptly moved aside, and the initially depleted zombies mechanically turned their heads. Before they could attack, they were crushed by a retrofit double-decker bus charging at the front.

The vehicle, mounted with steel plates and iron spikes, directly smashed through the feeble iron gate and the solid earth wall and surged into the Refining Factory.

Half of the bus was inside the factory, and the other half blocked the gate outside.

Earth and stone splashed, scattering across the ground.

Lu Chen turned his body, pulling Su Mo beneath him, shielding her from the flying clumps of dirt and dust.

Everyone was stunned by the intruders’ violent actions.

He Fei, leading the superpower users, quickly positioned himself in front of the vehicle, his superpower ready in hand.

After a burst of gun smoke, the zombies outside were temporarily blocked by the massive body of the vehicle, and at that moment, the door at the front of the vehicle creaked open.

A burly man wearing a red triangular scarf but only a black vest stepped down, his red hair and sunglasses on his face, chewing gum in his mouth.

"We meet again."

He walked up to He Fei and extended his hand, "Didn’t get a chance to introduce myself last time, Li Ming."

"He Fei," He Fei glanced at those strong arms before finally reaching out to shake hands, then asked somewhat struggling, "Are you here to rescue us?"

"Of course, my friend, our deal still stands, but we might need to make some slight adjustments," Li Ming’s thumb and forefinger came together, as if to say it was really just a small condition.

He Fei looked at the students hiding to one side, shivering with both fear and anticipation, knowing he had no choice but to agree to any conditions the other party might propose now.

He moved his throat, speaking up, "Go on."

Li Ming chuckled, then turned and waved toward the car, "No rush, let’s go back and talk about it. I guarantee you’ll love it there."

After he finished speaking, a few more men came down from the vehicle, and after exchanging looks with them, Guo Hua took the initiative to get on the vehicle.

Li Ming walked into the crowd of regular students, a hearty smile on his resolute face, seemingly quite pleased with these hundred-plus students. He clapped his hands, "Alright girls and boys, get on quickly, the zombies will be here any moment."

After seeing He Fei nod, everyone rushed and crowded onto the vehicle.

Su Mo hooked Lu Chen’s hand, "Let’s go too."

The man nodded, and a group of seven headed towards the modified vehicle.

As they passed by Li Ming, who was directing his teammates to move the supplies, their black coats caught his attention. He called out to them, "Hey, wait."

He Fei still stood by with a group of superpower users. He quickly walked over and explained loudly, "They are our companions too."

Li Ming looked at him, chuckled, "Don’t worry, we just need to do a quick check."

He walked up to Lu Chen, still half a head shorter than the man.

He didn’t look at anyone else, just stared straight at Lu Chen. As a level 4 superpower user, he couldn’t see through this man with a poised stature and a cold demeanor; what did that imply?

Li Ming dropped the nonchalance he had with He Fei and extended his hand, "Strong one, the epidemic prevention zone welcomes you."

Lu Chen shook his hand in return, the cool palm meeting the warm hefty hand for a few seconds before letting go.

"Get on the bus," Li Ming turned, whistled, and spoke to the big man guarding the door, "Give them first-class seats."

"Thank you," Lu Chen said quietly in thanks, leading Su Mo as they walked past.

A bus modified for capacity, already crammed full of students. There were so many that the tires had deflated somewhat, resembling the crowded conditions seen in Indian buses.

Fortunately, the bus had been extended. Su Mo roughly surveyed the dimly lit interior, thinking the person who modified it was impressive; the entire cabin looked like an iron barrel, seemingly having taken considerable time and effort to construct.

Su Mo and the others were arranged in what Li Ming called ’first-class’ seating, which was actually just behind the driver’s seat, the widest and with the best view, alongside the sturdy men from the epidemic prevention zone.
