Chapter 309: Chapter 307: Mu Rou Expresses Gratitude
He took advantage of the fact that Guo Hua hadn’t discovered him and returned to his dormitory, acting as if nothing had happened.
Early the next day.
The commotion Guo Hua caused last night was relayed to Lu Chen by Li Qian, and the first thing that came to Su Mo’s mind was fuel.
She sat on the bed, put on her jacket, and said to Lu Chen, "We need to get our reward before they come over."
Lu Chen, of course, felt the same, and after a few people got ready, they went to find He Fei.
There was an eerily strange atmosphere in the early morning.
He Fei was sitting in the dormitory flanked by three teachers. Ding Yan was in favor of giving those students work, while the other two teachers started voicing their opposition.
They were ordinary people, unlike Ding Yan, an engineer who could control the Refining Factory’s oil; they were only teaching accounting and music, and without the aura of a teacher, they would still have to work.
He Fei, disturbed by the continuous arguing, originally had not known what work to find for these students after thinking about it all night, and with two teachers attacking him from both sides, he didn’t know what to do for a while.
In his distress, the arrival of Lu Chen and the others appeared as his salvation.
"We’re here for our reward," Su Mo said with a smiling face, showing no signs of yesterday’s pain as she was escorted into the room with a hand on her shoulder.
Their arrival caused the two female teachers to instantly fall silent, "You guys talk; we’ll leave first."
After the two left, He Fei finally breathed a sigh of relief and stood up. He and Ding Yan led them outside, "I know, that machine hasn’t been started for a while; it might take some time."
"Why can’t you let the students help?" Li Qian pointed at the students still wandering around outside and said in a gentle voice, "Don’t all these need manpower? They can earn their reward."
He Fei looked at him and also thought it was a good idea, "You’re right; I’ll arrange it right away."
Following him out of the dormitory, Su Mo hadn’t walked far when cries and a woman’s harsh, merciless voice caught her attention from behind.
It was a mix of an argument and desperate pleading, the two sounds intertwining, creating a noise that even stopped He Fei in his tracks, looking puzzled.
Unable to resist, Su Mo turned her head and saw two familiar faces, sparking her interest.
Zhao Changsheng came up beside her, also with the demeanor of an onlooker, "Momo, that woman has recovered quite well."
Jiang Yulian, rarely seen carrying a child outside, followed their gaze with pity in her eyes, "It’s a shame such a good girl ended up like that."
The person the three of them were discussing was Mu Rou, whose face had been half stripped away by a nibbled eyeball.
Although one of her eyes was wrapped in cloth, the exposed side of her face had been treated and now one half of her mouth was pulled up high and twisted, covered with grotesque brown lines.
It looked particularly horrifying.
At her feet, a woman knelt; it was He Rong.
Her tearful expression attracted a crowd of onlookers.
Mu Rou seemed like a completely different person, her presence becoming incredibly intimidating, and her one intact right eye was filled with sorrow.
When she saw Su Mo, she kicked He Rong, who was kneeling by her side, away, and slowly walked towards Su Mo, holding her stomach.
Su Mo just stood there, watching her approach, "You’ve recovered well."
Mu Rou stopped a meter away from her, bent over slightly, and a hoarse voice forced out two dry words, "Thank you."
Su Mo waved her hand nonchalantly and said, "It’s fine; don’t bend over like that, you still have wounds on your stomach, don’t you?"
Mu Rou didn’t listen to her, but stubbornly bent over for a while to express her gratitude, and then slowly turned back and walked toward He Rong.
Overnight, she advanced to a Level 3 Superpower User.
He Rong was crying so hard she was gasping for breath, kneeling on the ground with her palms together at her chest, rubbing them nonstop, desperately begging Mu Rou for forgiveness, "I really didn’t mean to do it, I was so scared, Mu Rou, please forgive me, please forgive me!"
Mu Rou stopped in front of her, her voice so hoarse it was barely recognizable as she spoke in fits and starts to the bewildered crowd around her, "I want to forgive you, but why did you try to kill me last night?"
At her words, there was an uproar.
"I didn’t, I was really too scared," He Rong was almost scared into fainting; she simply couldn’t imagine what her life would be like afterward.
Mu Rou laughed, a laugh that sounded like wood being sawed, grating and unpleasant to hear.
Even with her voice gone bad, she laid out clearly and in broken sentences everything He Rong had done the day before.
Su Mo’s interest grew as she listened.
Turns out, He Rong found a discarded, rusty fruit knife in a corner of the dormitory last night.
She thought, if she killed Mu Rou, the secret behind the framing would also be preserved. But what He Rong didn’t expect was that when she entered the room with the knife, Mu Rou was actually awake, looking more terrifying than an Asura.
She didn’t even have the courage to strike, tossing the fruit knife towards Mu Rou and running away scared without even caring if it hit its mark.
Zhao Changsheng sighed beside Su Mo, "That’s just too stupid, to have the heart of a thief but not the guts."
Su Mo agreed, "Exactly."
He Fei’s face turned pale as he listened on the side; he glanced at Su Mo, not expecting that everything she said was true.
Indeed, among them was a normal person who had framed a superpower user.
For a moment, all the superpower users were extremely angry; the very people they worked so hard to protect were now biting the hand that fed them.
Now, no one was protecting these normal students anymore.
He Fei promptly requested that such a treacherous person should be locked up alone, and from today, all the normal students were to start working immediately on the oil rack, refining fuel for Su Mo and the others.
Some murmured their inability, only to be directly rebutted by He Fei, "Without labor, no one gets to eat!"
His expression was one of obvious fury.
No one dared to make another sound, and the superpower users quickly drove all the normal students out of the dormitory toward the oil rack.
As their teacher, Ding Yan received many pleas for help, but he couldn’t muster a word in their defense, only saying, "I’ll go check on the oil pump."
He Fei also personally apologized to Su Mo, "Sorry, I didn’t believe you at the time and almost let Mu Rou die again."
Su Mo’s arms were nearly sore from gesturing; she looked up to Lu Chen and said, "Let’s go check out how they’re refining the oil, there’s nothing else to do anyway."
The man readily agreed.
As He Rong was being led away, Mu Rou followed slowly, her fingertips still twined with several sharp wood vines.
Su Mo didn’t miss the murderous intent in her eyes, keeping silent with a smile on her face as she left with Lu Chen.
Jiang Yulian, finding the wind too strong up above, took her child and Ling Ye to play in the open space.
The tall oil rack was crammed with students; Suddenly burdened with so many people, Ding Yan still managed to organize each person’s duties without confusion.
Watching those on the rack begin to slack off as soon as they arrived at their posts, Su Mo clicked her tongue twice, "If they ever go to the epidemic prevention zone, they’ll probably starve to death."
