Chapter 308: Chapter 306: Crisis Resolved

She laid back down on the bed, staring at the bedhead with her arm propped under her chin, zoning out as her ears occasionally twitched, attentive to the sounds from outside.

In the open space between the bathhouse and the dormitory building, stood over a hundred students, along with the corpses of six girls, whose faces were covered with bed sheets that someone had brought over.

He Fei stood in front of these bodies, enduring the verbal abuse that came from ordinary students who had suffered mental breakdowns, his expression stoic while about a dozen superpower users stood silent beside him.

Although a few of them looked displeased, none spoke out when confronted with the frantic and distorted faces of those who had broken down.

Ding Yan and two teachers were tirelessly trying to reason with everyone, speaking until they were hoarse, yet failing to garner even a moment’s silence from the ordinary students.

When Lu Chen arrived with his men, the scene was immediately disrupted.

He frowned, impatience evident in his phoenix eyes, and the oppressive aura he exuded was utterly unconcealed.

Those tasks the superpower users could not bring themselves to do, he would do them himself. He walked straight to He Fei’s side with his hands in the pockets of his coat, his chin slightly lifted, and strands of his slightly long silver hair fluttering in the cold wind, mixing a hint of murderous intent with casual indifference, "What’s all the noise about?"

The innate coldness and indifference that emanated from him instantly silenced everyone.

Ding Yan, seeing the students’ displeased expressions, couldn’t help but interject, "Mr. Lu, don’t be like this, the students are pitiable."

Zhao Changsheng couldn’t help but sneer, "I’ve noticed you all have forgotten what kind of world we’re in now. Coddling this bunch of useless students, have they ever shown gratitude? Living lives where everything is handed to them, have they become too comfortable?"

"Who are you calling useless!" Immediately, someone from the crowd voiced their discontent.

Zhao Changsheng was not willing to spare any of their feelings, his long whip lashing out, cracking powerfully in front of them and sending sparks flying.

Someone was so frightened that they plopped down onto the ground.

Li Qian stood there looking refined, but his gaze was locked onto the man who had spoken. His spiritual power wrapped around the man, whose expression suddenly became vacant as he slapped himself in the face and then dazedly bowed to Zhao Changsheng, apologizing, "I was wrong."

Zhao Changsheng now felt satisfied.

Lu Chen gave Li Qian a glance before speaking coldly, "Since you’re all so outraged and have been arguing until now, how about from now on you’re responsible for all your own needs by going out to get them yourselves?"

"Are you joking?! Outside is full of zombies; you’re superpower users, if you don’t protect us, who will?"

"He Fei, we’ve been classmates for three years at the university, you can’t just abandon us like this."

"Exactly, I said from the start not to go, and yet you all insisted on bringing us here. Isn’t protecting us the least you could do?"

"..."

Faced with the sickening barrage of words, Lu Chen showed no reaction; this wasn’t the first time he had seen such a scene. He turned indifferently and looked at He Fei without the slightest emotional fluctuation, "These are the people you’ve been protecting for months?"

He Fei lowered his head, his eyes reddening a little; he wanted to argue that they were only overwhelmed, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to say it.

This scene had played out not just once before.

Li Qian adjusted his glasses and placed a hand on Ding Yan’s shoulder, whose expression was equally unpleasant, and spoke softly, "When you all came out, a lot of food was left behind. The outside is full of zombies; how many days do you think these ordinary students can last?"

"A week..." Ding Yan thought for a moment, then his old legs started to feel weak. Li Qian lent a timely hand with a hint of a malicious smile at the corner of his eyes, as if to echo Lu Chen’s words,

"If all the food is given to the ordinary students, the superpower users will starve to death with them. Who among you can guarantee that the zombie tide will recede in a week?"

"Even if it does recede, with all these various unhealed wounds on your bodies, can you go out searching for food again?" Zhao Changsheng smartly continued where the other left off.

The three of them were inciting discord. If they hadn’t realized that ordinary people and superpower users were inherently different, He Fei and his people would sooner or later be the death of these students.

A bit of kindness is a good thing, but once it goes beyond the limit, it becomes something out of control for the other party.

Under the continuous pressure from Lu Chen, none of the ordinary students present could utter another word. It seemed like everyone was waiting for He Fei’s response.

Even the superpower users beside him had their thoughts accurately pinpointed by Lu Chen’s trio. Even a clay figure has three points of fire, let alone superpower users.

About two or three minutes later, He Fei raised his head, his young face showing a determination and seriousness never seen before, "Starting today, all food will be allocated by the superpower users. If you want to eat, you can, but you will need to earn it through labor. If you’re not willing, I can send you outside the earthen wall to survive on your own at any time."

Seeing that he’d finally taken a firm stance, Lu Chen felt somewhat satisfied. The moment he withdrew his pressure, the crowd completely erupted.

Many people were actually ready to rush forward and fight. After He Fei unhesitatingly unleashed a Wind Blade, slicing open the cheek of one ordinary student, things settled down.

Lu Chen didn’t concern himself with how the follow-up was handled; he simply returned to his room. As soon as he entered, he met Su Mo’s eyes, which were bright and clear even in the darkness.

He closed the door with a chill and walked to the bed, took off his coat and shoes, and slid under the blanket, "Haven’t you slept yet?"

Su Mo turned to look at him, "What did you say?"

"You heard it all," The man moved closer to her after warming himself up.

Su Mo pouted; alright, she had indeed heard it all from within the room. She toyed with the buttons on his chest between her fingers, "Now the zombies can even dig holes. Can we hold out here until the people from the epidemic prevention zone come?"

He caught her hand, saying softly, "Unsure."

The direction of the zombies’ evolution was unpredictable; who knew what kind of bizarre skills they might evolve in the future.

Su Mo leaned her head against his chest, "Let’s sleep, I’m tired."

"Hmm," the man kissed the top of her head and tucked the blanket snugly around her, quietly watching her sleeping face.

In the deep of the night, Guo Hua in the next room suddenly opened his eyes and quietly got out of bed and left.

The entire dormitory building was pitch-dark, and the superpower users at the main entrance were drowsy. Though they were on night watch, staying awake for two whole nights had taken its toll and they were dozing off.

Li Qian became alert as soon as Guo Hua started moving. His footsteps were so light that they made no sound at all, like a ghost he concealed his presence and followed behind Guo Hua.

He watched as Guo Hua climbed up the tall oil tank stand, reaching the top level and pulling out a signal flare from his pocket. He deliberately found a spot with his back to the dormitory building and shot a green-lit signal flare into the sky.

Li Qian, hidden in the darkness, had a glint of realization in his eyes. It seemed that it wouldn’t be long before the crisis of the zombies besieging from outside was resolved.
