Chapter 307: Chapter 305: Zombie Evolution

Li Qian didn’t respond. He just left with a blank expression after a courteous greeting to Zhao Changsheng.

When He Fei saw him walk away, he turned around and saw a pitch-black, sharp Tang Blade lying on the ground. He waved to a student behind him to deliver it to Su Mo.

Outside the bathhouse, a large crowd was gathered, full of those who were panicking as well as scared.

"What happened?!"

"Have zombies come?!"

"I knew it, we should have never come out. So many people have already died!"

"..."

A mix of good and bad comments filled the crowd.

Su Mo took the blade handed to her by a student who rushed over and was then driven back to her room by Lu Chen.

Guo Hua, with a gun slung over his shoulder, had been leaning against the door, watching their movements. Seeing Su Mo injured, he stood up straight and couldn’t help asking, "Is there a zombie hidden inside?"

Enduring the pain and looking pale, Su Mo raised her head and provoked deliberately, "Yes, and they can make holes. If we don’t leave now, we’ll all die."

Taken aback, Guo Hua didn’t say a word and quickly went into the room.

Su Mo returned to the bed and lay down. Almost immediately, Lu Chen handed her a bottle of Zijuan Tea. She looked up to see him staring at her back, his eyes brewing a storm.

Taking the tea, she grasped one of his hands, soothing him, "I’m fine."

"Does it hurt a lot", Lu Chen gently touched her back, his silver hair hiding a stormy expression.

Knowing he was likely blaming himself, Su Mo set the bottle of tea to one side, propped herself up, and lay across his lap, wrapping her arms around his sturdy waist. She rested her chin on his abdomen, looking up at him, "It doesn’t hurt. You arrived just in time."

Lu Chen appeared not to hear her. His gaze half-lowered, he picked up the bottle she had set aside, opened it, and brought it to her lips with a cold tone, "Drink it."

She retracted slightly, intending to take off the clothes on her torso. Seeing this, he put the tea aside again, his hands pressing down on her shoulders, "Let me do it."

He carefully and earnestly removed her jacket, careful not to touch her wound.

Then, the Zijuan Tea was once again thrust to Su Mo’s lips. She didn’t drink immediately but pointed to the window facing the corridor, "Block it. The healing process can’t be seen."

She didn’t want to arouse suspicion with her pained expressions during healing.

The man went to the window and drew closed the thick, dusty curtain, then returned to carefully lift her halfway onto his knees, "Done."

Only then did Su Mo drink the Zijuan Tea. Being a basic level, the healing process was slow and exceptionally painful.

Throughout it all, she couldn’t help but grab Lu Chen’s trouser leg and whimper softly.

Seeing her discomfort, Lu Chen’s hand on her shoulder tightened slightly, afraid of hurting her. A few seconds later, he relaxed again, then began to distract her with conversation, "What was that in the restroom?"

Su Mo, frowning in pain, answered him. Her eyes still displayed surprise, "I don’t know, it seemed like a new type of zombie."

"A Level 4 zombie," Lu Chen said, staring at her back, his hand continuously stroking the back of her head.

Su Mo felt it was a bit strange, like petting a dog, but she didn’t pay much attention and was instead drawn into his conversation.

She turned her face to a different angle, slightly lifted her head towards him, and asked with a shiver, "You saw it?"

"Yeah," Lu Chen brushed away her hair and wiped off the droplets of water about to fall into her eyes down her hair, then continued, "It should be the same as the intelligent zombies we found in the living quarters. It’s not an evolution in terms of level, but a physical enhancement on their current level."

"Spiritual zombies have gained intelligence, and level 4 zombies with no superpowers have evolved long tongues," Su Mo unconsciously gripped his thigh tightly, where a large patch had already been dampened by the droplets of water from her body.

"Staying alive really isn’t an easy thing," Su Mo muttered, when suddenly a severe pain in her back signaled that the healing had ended.

Lu Chen gently moved aside the wet clothes on her back, revealing bones that had been put back in place, leaving some wounds on the surface.

Letting the clothes fall back into place, the man helped her sit up properly, his facial expression visibly relaxed, "Almost, a few days of rest and it should be good."

Su Mo was aware too, even though it wasn’t as effective as the prime Zijuan Tea. At least the bones had been set back in place. Following up with some Biluochun Tea would help the external injuries heal on their own, and she should be fine.

She leaned on Lu Chen’s thigh to get up when she saw that his pants were all wet, clinging tightly to the muscles of his firm legs.

Pointing at his pants and her own soaked clothes and hair, Su Mo said, "Let’s change, everything’s wet."

She took out two sets of sportswear from the system bag, compared their sizes to him, and passed them over, "You should be able to wear these."

After changing clothes, Lu Chen patted her hair dry and tucked her into the covers. He then got off the bed to open the door, allowing Zhao Changsheng and Li Qian, who had been waiting outside for a long time, to enter the room.

As soon as they entered, Zhao Changsheng handed over a crystal stone. Indeed, it was a level 4 crystal stone. Su Mo didn’t take it and pushed it back, "It’s for you."

"That won’t do," Zhao Changsheng immediately refused, a serious expression on her striking face, "I will not take something obtained with your injuries."

Su Mo puffed out her cheeks, feigning unhappiness, "We’re all family, why the formalities? If you don’t want it, I’ll give it to Li Qian."

Seeing her getting upset, Zhao Changsheng hastily retracted her hand and glanced sternly at the innocent-looking Li Qian behind her, "No way."

Behind them were Jiang Yulian, holding a child, and Ling Ye.

Fearful that she might have come to harm, they had all squeezed into the room, showering Su Mo and Lu Chen with a spells of concern and inspection.

The small dormitory was nearly filled to the brim with these few people.

Su Mo rubbed Ling Ye’s hair as she approached the bed. Her pallid complexion had already become much rosier. She smiled and said, "Don’t be so nervous, it’s just a minor injury. It’s already late, nothing else should happen today. You all should rest early."

It didn’t look like a minor injury when Zhao Changsheng helped her out earlier, but she knew about Su Mo’s miraculous teas and didn’t say much, though her beautiful eyes conveyed worry.

"It’s quite lively outside now," Jiang Yulian said softly, rocking the sleeping child, a look of concern on her face, "They have all gathered in the open space, almost turning the world upside down."

Su Mo moved her ears and indeed heard the loud arguments outside. She touched her forehead and said, "These people really can’t stay still. Let’s go take a look."

As she spoke, she tried to climb out of bed but was tugged back by Lu Chen, who held her hand down with an unyielding look in his eyes, "Sleep."

"Then you go take a look?" Su Mo settled back into the covers, tugging at his sleeve.

This time the man complied, "I’ll go and check it out with them."

"Sister Su, I’ll come by again tomorrow," Ling Ye said with a tender voice, her delicate little face earnest.

Su Mo nodded with a smile, and everyone in the room not wanting to disturb her rest left the room one after another.
