The Chef Rules the Last Days -
Chapter 298 - 296: Rescue
Chapter 298: Chapter 296: Rescue
Mu Rou, having been through a resource collection in the living area once, did not take part in the mutant Polar Bear incident that followed, but she knew many people had died. She shook her head.
"It was a Level 5 Mutant Bear, yet they killed it with ease. Do you know what that means?" He Fei looked at the students, who were already dispersing to find new places to sleep, disappointment faint in his eyes.
Mu Rou unconsciously pushed away He Rong, who was still sleepy on her, her gaze stunned, "Our highest level is only Level 3."
Her face turned pale; perhaps what Su Mo said, agreeing with the man with the gun, might indeed be true.
Just as she was about to call everyone back, Li Qian’s spiritual power began to fluctuate greatly. He looked up, his voice gentle and unhurried, "The pipe on the second floor broke."
Guo Hua lowered his hat, a flicker of excitement in his eyes. He had heard what he said. It seemed the blood was still effective.
At that moment on the second floor, countless rats were climbing out through the artificially dug toilet pipes.
Not only did He Fei hear what Li Qian said, but he also heard the loud movements of claws scraping on the floor above. He ran over to a student who had just fallen asleep on the floor and yanked him (her) up, "Get up! Quickly, get up!"
The students who had just fallen asleep were finally angry.
"He Fei! Why are you siding with outsiders? We just lay down!"
"Yeah..."
"..."
Su Mo sneered. She merely moved Jiang Yulian and Ling Ye behind her while Lu Chen opened the gymnasium’s doors; he directly went outside and released the cars.
Jiang Yulian held a child with one hand and pulled Ling Ye into the car with the other.
Just as they thought they were about to leave, Ding Yan ran out, shouting, "Mr. Lu! You promised us!"
"I remember," the man’s eyes were chilling as he opened the driver’s door and gestured to Su Mo, "You go with them first."
Su Mo was about to refuse when Li Qian spoke, "Zhao Changsheng and I will go first. The rats are coming out of the South Building; we’ll clear them first."
If they were to exit the school gates, they would definitely pass the South Building, where the numbers were also numerous.
Lu Chen agreed, Su Mo clasped Zhao Changsheng’s hand, "Take good care of them."
"They are just some Level 1 and Level 2 mutant rats. I can whip a group of them with a single lash," Zhao Changsheng got into the passenger seat, turning his head to Su Mo, "We will wait at the door, be careful, Momo."
Jiang Yulian and Ling Ye had just dropped a word of caution when Li Qian drove away.
At that moment in the gymnasium, the students reluctant to come out felt the vibrations from the second floor above them.
They knew everyone above had come down.
Only then did they realize, danger was upon them!
Watching them start to frantically pack their things again, Guo Hua, to be safe, stood outside the gymnasium.
As he passed by Su Mo, she suddenly turned her head and stared at his slightly aged face, "Your handiwork?"
This man had been stirring up trouble between superpower users and ordinary students since entering the library and, although he hid it well, even a dodging glance could become a flaw.
Even his lies were clear as day.
"How could I possibly control those rats? You, young lady, are being unfair," Guo Hua’s expression remained unchanged, the panic in his eyes flickered but was well concealed.
A smile suddenly lifted on Su Mo’s cute face, her dimples charming, "I was just asking casually. At your age, you shouldn’t be capable of such disgraceful acts."
Guo Hua smiled but didn’t speak, his hand clutching the rifle strap tightening slightly.
During their conversation, the first batch of rats descended from the second-floor staircase.
Countless rats, their extraordinarily blood-red protruding eyes shining in the dark night, strong hind legs visible beneath their brown fur, and forepaws, though not as formidable as their hind, with black sharp armor on them as if steeped in poison.
They moved swiftly, swarming the first-floor lobby like a plague of locusts.
"Ah! Help!"
"Help! He Fei! Save me!"
"Damn it! I’ve been bitten!"
"..."
The gymnasium plunged into chaos in an instant, everyone rushing towards the exit, and in the vision-obstructing darkness, students stumbled blindly over rats whose eyes glowed red.
The only light was the dim moonlight spilling from the sky outside.
Already outside, Guo Hua raised his gun the first thing, sweeping it over the crowd of rats before aiming it at He Fei, intending to kill him.
Just as he was about to pull the trigger, Su Mo noticed his action and appeared in front of him in the blink of an eye, knocking the gun so the bullet fired harmlessly into the ground.
She chuckled, "Sorry, accidentally bumped into you. What were you aiming at? Don’t you have no bullets left?"
A hint of danger and warning shone in her eyes.
"Got a bit anxious to help out, still had one in reserve," Guo Hua wasn’t sure if she’d perceived his intention, but the scene had already turned utterly chaotic, and within seconds, He Fei was swallowed by the crowd.
It seemed this man, could not be killed now.
He suddenly spoke warmly, "Be careful, all of you."
Su Mo watched him walk away with his rifle, her gaze growing icy; just now... this man intended to kill He Fei.
Running without order, the main door was nearly broken by the crush of people.
Su Mo briefly paused her thoughts, watching the stream of students pushing outward. For some reason, she found the scene amusing, feeling justified after months of assistance from classmates only to become suspicious and distrustful from a stranger’s pleasing words, ultimately leading to their deaths.
Those who hadn’t experienced the poison of a post-apocalyptic society would indeed get a harsh lesson today.
Inside, He Fei, having injured an arm, chose to lead three teachers including Ding Yan outside first, but the doorway was too jammed with people, and they couldn’t get out.
Despite his screaming to make way for the injured and teachers, it was no use.
Su Mo spotted the man who was initially carried back to the South Building, the most severely wounded yet the only survivor.
The man with his unhealed wounds had to watch out for rats underfoot as well as avoid being bumped by his classmates.
However, the students, thrown into disarray by the mutant rats, didn’t spare a thought for their wounded peers, each looking out for themselves.
Su Mo pulled out a knife and turned to Lu Chen, "Let’s help out a bit, at least those superpower users have given us a place to stay, and they still hold the keys to the Refining Factory."
Lu Chen was of the same mind, but the doorway was too crowded to approach. He surveyed the first-floor venue; the surroundings enclosed by transparent reinforced glass and steel structures.
"Follow me," he walked to a glass wall, his hand resting upon it, and lethal cold ice spread from the palm of Lu Chen, covering the glass rapidly in a small ice wall within seconds.
