Chapter 294: Chapter 292: Li Qian Gets Promoted

But something had gone wrong by the toilets.

When Ding Yan ordered someone to open the door of the toilet, a swift and fierce figure rushed out.

In the blink of an eye, he had pinned down the student who opened the door, biting a large chunk of flesh from his neck and chewing it in his mouth.

The surrounding students were stunned for a second before they all panicked and began to flee.

The chaos ensued on the first floor with screams and wails rising and falling in a tumult.

Su Mo faintly heard the zombies’ roars mixed in the shouts, and she immediately felt something was wrong. She pulled out her Tang Blade and said to Zhao Changsheng, "You escort Ling Ye and Aunt Jiang upstairs to hide. There are zombies here."

Zhao Changsheng picked up Ling Ye by the back of his collar, lifting him up, "Momo, be careful yourself."

"Mhm," Su Mo nodded.

Jiang Yulian also said to be careful and quickly ran to the second floor with the child under Zhao Changsheng’s lead.

There were too many people on the first floor. Su Mo and Lu Chen went against the flow, running towards the toilet.

The two were quickly separated by the large crowd.

Holding the Tang Blade, Su Mo carefully dodged around, unable at times to distinguish between the zombies and humans in the crowd.

When she saw a zombie with a protruding spine leap onto a student, pinning him to the ground, she and Lu Chen both rushed over.

An Ice Blade shot into the zombie’s head before her.

It collapsed before her with a thud, fresh blood leaking from its skull.

It was a Level 2.

Su Mo frowned as she stood before the body, recognizing him. He had been part of the group greeting He Fei when they had returned, with a notable black mole on his lip as a distinguishing feature.

The student bitten by it began to convulse, the mutation occurring swiftly.

Su Mo stepped forward and beheaded the student.

The student who had been pinned down initially by the door was also timely discovered by Lu Chen, who shot him in the head.

The situation was contained.

The superpower users who hurried down from upstairs also missed their chance.

Ding Yan, sitting slumped against the toilet door, had a face pale from fear due to his advanced age, "How... How could this happen?"

Su Mo squatted before Peng Xin’s body, with Lu Chen standing beside her, "Frozen to death."

Su Mo nodded. Although the body had no apparent wounds, the exposed skin was purple with frostbite, and the sharp claws were somewhat irregularly twisted. Besides the prominent white eyeballs, there were also traces of blood in the ears.

"Although it’s frozen to death, it’s a bit strange," she said, examining its arm. "Normally, natural death only leads to the slow-moving Level 1 zombies."

Lu Chen, "Exposed to snow?"

"He used to be responsible for opening the door," answered a student carefully from behind them.

"Then it’s possible," Su Mo stood up, "The first rain caused direct mutation, and the second snow even caused human deaths to directly evolve into Level 2."

He Fei, enduring the pain in his arm, said, "No matter what, we should handle the bodies first and not leave them exposed here."

"Why... Why did he freeze himself to death?" Ding Yan took a while to recover, and with the students’ help, he managed to stand up and walk to the body, his face full of disbelief.

"He had a fever," Lu Chen said expressionlessly, kicking the corpse’s head casually, "Untreated high fever can lead to convulsions, bleeding, and death. Isn’t that why you locked people up in the equipment room to prevent this?"

"Did he hide in the toilet to avoid being quarantined?" Ding Yan gasped, leaning weakly on the shoulders of the students, "Why didn’t Peng Xin say anything? The fevers of the students in the equipment room had mostly subsided today, and not a single one had an incident."

Some of the students who had gathered around again began to cry aloud.

Su Mo sighed, "Luckily, nothing serious happened; let’s get this taken care of quickly.

She had seen too many bodies and really didn’t have the time to deal with the students’ weeping and wailing any longer.

The gymnasium doors were opened, letting in a gust of cold air, and He Fei’s men took the body away for processing. A middle-aged man in all black entered, carrying a rifle on his back and wearing a black baseball cap.

Su Mo gave him a glance.

Receiving her gaze, he even gave her a friendly smile.

Su Mo returned the smile, and after the students had cleaned up the mess, He Fei walked over, his previously sorrowful expression slightly restrained, "Guo Hua, why did you come here?"

So his name was Guo Hua, Su Mo raised an eyebrow, quite a patriotic name.

The man took the automatic rifle off his back and said, "I found mutant rats in the South Building’s restroom, and I’m out of bullets; there’s no one guarding the school’s main entrance now — it’s dangerous for me there."

At the school gate, all the gatekeeper personnel were dead; He Fei, now injured, had not yet discussed with Ding Yan who to appoint anew to guard it, so his coming here to seek shelter was understandable.

After thinking for a moment, He Fei said, "Go to the second floor for now; they’re all injured, and it’s not been decided who will go."

Guo Hua nodded, adjusted his cap, and before heading upstairs, he added, "On top of the South Building, I saw the zombies behind the barricade start to move; there’s something off about them."

Apart from the superpower users whose expressions changed dramatically, the ordinary students seemed very normal,

"We’ve always been here, and those zombies have never come over from there."

"You’re an outsider, of course, you don’t understand."

"..."

Guo Hua didn’t say more and, shouldering his rifle, stepped upstairs.

When he passed by Lu Chen, they exchanged glances.

The news he brought was enough to call a meeting among the superpower users in the gymnasium.

For the living area behind the barricade, the situation was well known to the few superpower users who had accompanied He Fei.

"Alright, students, return to your places, and don’t go up to the second floor to disturb others," Ding Yan spoke up.

Seeing this, Su Mo and Lu Chen went upstairs side by side.

She whispered to him, "If it takes another two or three days for Xueli to finish transforming, then, according to that man, we can’t stay here anymore."

Lu Chen patted her shoulder, "What we’re worried about right now isn’t the zombies outside."

Su Mo looked up at him, "You mean that man?"

Lu Chen didn’t deny it; as someone who came from the battlefield, he had seen all sorts of people, and that man’s aura was far more than the obedient and kind appearance he was showing.

"Let’s head back first."

The two returned to the tent area, where Zhao Changsheng and Ling Ye were standing in front of Li Qian’s tent, because the light inside had vanished.

A pair of clean, slender-fingered hands pulled back the curtain, and a man with black hair bent over as he stepped out.

Su Mo observed briefly, Li Qian, having ascended to Level 4, seemed different now, not just in the aura around him, but also in the eyes behind his glasses, which were becoming increasingly inscrutable.

When a person’s scholarly demeanor and ruthless heart combine perfectly with power, it becomes truly terrifying.

Although his mouth still bore a trace of a gentle smile, it inexplicably sent shivers down one’s spine.
