Chapter 290: Chapter 288: Battle with the Polar Bear
This was not solely for those classmates, but also because in this snowy weather, if they couldn’t kill the bear, they would be the ones to die.
Su Mo turned and ran towards the second floor. Li Qian had not yet fully evolved. She turned her gaze to Zhao Changsheng, who was guarding there, and said, "We should go help, over there is a Level 5 Polar Bear."
"You go, Sister Su, I’ll watch here," Ling Ye said, standing there with a mature air.
For a short time, there shouldn’t be any problems in the gymnasium.
Su Mo then left with Zhao Changsheng.
Ding Yan was thinking of seeking their help when he saw the three already standing on the first floor, ready to go out. He hurriedly called for someone to bring several torches to them, saying, "It’s too dark at night, use these."
Not refusing his kindness, they were fully armed, leaving only their eyes exposed. The gymnasium’s main door was opened.
The trio walked out into the snow.
It might have been an illusion, but the previously goose-feather-like heavy snow seemed much lessened.
Still, the snow was very deep. Lu Chen took out Longjing Tea he had stored in his Space, and the three of them drank it.
After walking a distance, Su Mo’s legs were nearly buried in the snow and she couldn’t move forward, so she used the effect of "Light as a Feather" to start leaping through the snow.
With her superpower, she was very fast.
When they reached near the school gate, a few people were holding torches, surrounding a white polar bear standing over three meters tall when upright.
Around them, several bodies lay scattered in disarray.
The thick snow had been swept away by superpowers, revealing the black cement ground.
Vaguely, one could see that half of the polar bear’s face had been forcibly peeled off, exposing its whitening eyeball.
Its bushy limb was raised high, ready to strike down the superpower user nearest to it.
The man was tall and looked oddly familiar.
He was the Power Superpower User, Niu Mang.
Zhao Changsheng recognized him and immediately summoned a bolt of thunder, striking the polar bear directly.
"Roar!"
The bear roared angrily. Despite the pain, its bear paw didn’t retract. Niu Mang tried to dodge when he saw an opportunity, but the bear’s speed was too fast; its paw pressed directly onto his chest, pinning him down, and the heavy paw crushed through his superpowers and smashed his breastbone.
Without even a chance to scream in agony, Niu Mang’s head was entirely bitten off by the gaping maw that faced him.
As a Level 3 Power Element, he had no chance to resist, his blood-soaked head was flung not far in front of Zhao Changsheng.
On that rough and rugged face, now presenting a pale gray color as his superpowers faded, his mouth still moved slightly.
Zhao Changsheng’s face darkened, she had thought she could give him a chance to dodge.
"Niu Mang!" At this moment, He Fei had already suffered substantial injuries, large patches of flesh torn from his arm. Seeing Niu Mang easily beheaded, he frantically gathered a mass of Wind Blades and attacked the bear’s body.
Lu Chen frowned and immediately threw the torch he was holding onto the polar bear.
Even though the polar bear had mutated, it still had a slight fear of fire.
It instinctively dodged. Su Mo took the opportunity to rush over, grabbed He Fei by the collar, and pulled him back, narrowly avoiding the lethal strike from the bear’s paw.
Lu Chen, holding dozens of Ice Blades, stabbed them into the polar bear’s body, creating wounds to attract its attention and give the few barely surviving superpower users around him a chance to escape.
Knowing this could only cause minor skin damage to the bear, Lu Chen didn’t linger in combat; the moment the bear turned its head to attack, he immediately ran away from the spot.
With the addition of the three of them,
the remaining superpower users finally managed to get some distance, their faces pale, and their energy nearly depleted.
After pulling He Fei out of the danger zone, Su Mo warned, "Don’t be reckless, else your people will all die."
He Fei sobered up a bit, his expression ashen.
Su Mo turned back and gripped her knife to go in for support.
There, Lu Chen was confronting a polar bear. He seemed to be handling it easily, always avoiding vital points at critical moments and inflicting significant wounds on the bear.
Zhao Changsheng’s whip also found its opportunity, fiercely striking the bear’s exposed back with a whip.
But its thick fur prevented any fatal damage.
Su Mo ran up behind the white bear, but the trajectory of its attacks was not very clear in her mind, and being a level lower, she couldn’t precisely control the attack movements of the polar bear.
She could only passively dodge repeatedly, hoping to exhaust it into falling on its limbs.
She used her superpower to its limits, appearing in the eyes of the polar bear like an annoying mosquito buzzing around, irksome and persistent.
Its claws missed again and again, and when it finally exhausted most of its strength and fell onto its limbs, the immense force cracked the concrete ground.
Suddenly, Su Mo felt a surge of crisis in her heart.
The bear, realizing the difficulty of dealing with Su Mo and Lu Chen, turned and charged toward a few students, who, drained of superpower, were defenseless except for a torch each.
Zhao Changsheng’s Thunder Whip crackled with electric light, swiftly lashing out and successfully coiling around its neck, stopping its advance.
But The struggle was so intense she could only hold on for a few seconds before being dragged along, "I won’t be able to hold on much longer!"
Seeing this, Su Mo immediately leaped up and rode on the back of the polar bear.
Its neck was charred by the electricity, its limbs flailing wildly, ready to throw Su Mo off at any moment.
Its sharp claws dug several gouges in the ground, its strength immense.
Su Mo held onto the polar bear’s fur with one hand, while her legs tightly wrapped around its midsection, desperately searching for the chance to chop off its head.
Lu Chen’s eyes emitted a cold, piercing light. From beneath the polar bear, Cold Ice Barbs a meter high shot up close to Su Mo’s back, pinning it to the ground.
Seizing the perfect opportunity, as the white bear roared in pain and threw its head back, Su Mo grabbed its massive head, the Tang Blade aimed at its gaping mouth drove through and exited through the back of its head, taking with it a mass of rotten brain tissue.
With a choking gasp, the polar bear heavily collapsed to the ground, dead.
Su Mo still sat on the bear’s corpse, dug out the Crystal Stone, and gasped for air; even in the extreme cold, sweat soaked the inside of her fur coat, her heart still hammering in her chest.
In the darkening sky, snowflakes gently fell, the nearly extinguished torches lying in the snow illuminated the vicinity.
The polar bear was dead, next to it lay the beheaded corpse of Niu Mang, its fresh blood staining a large swath of the snow, the trickling blood not yet coagulated, still steaming slightly.
Finally, someone, unable to bear the scene, broke down and cried loudly, their sobs mingled with despair and mourning.
"What did we do wrong for the world to treat us this way!"
"Watching a companion fall one after another before my eyes, I really am sick of this life!"
"They’re all dead, they’re all dead"
