The Chef Rules the Last Days -
Chapter 288 - 286: Mu Rou
Chapter 288: Chapter 286: Mu Rou
"You guys rest for a bit, I’ll be right back," Ding Yan hurriedly called a few students and went to the second-floor restroom.
It seemed like he was heading to block up the toilets and water pipes.
It was already afternoon by the time they returned.
Ling Ye and Jiang Yulian hadn’t eaten anything yet.
The reason being that the gym provided only one meal a day, in the evening.
The powdered milk was specially provided by Ding Yan.
Su Mo’s stomach was also rumbling. She whispered to Lu Chen, "Put some rice balls and dishes in the tents for Aunt Jiang and Li Qian."
The man rubbed her head and, as told, placed food into two tents.
Zhao Changsheng was hungry as well and went into the tent with Jiang Yulian, pulling the curtains tight before starting to eat.
Li Qian also headed inside to eat with Ling Ye after nodding to Su Mo.
Su Mo curled up inside the tent, draped a blanket over her legs, and stealthily shared a meal with Lu Chen.
The tent shielded them from the view of some people inside the venue, and no one dared to disturb them, so Su Mo had her fill.
After the meal, she sat inside the tent and took out the gray Crystal Stone, along with the Spiritual Power Crystal Stone she had extracted from the brain of an intelligent zombie, placing them together.
"Look, we only killed Level 2 zombies, but the Crystal Stone turned gray," Su Mo pointed at the gray Crystal Stone.
Lu Chen held it in his hands, feeling the energy inside, and said, "It’s purer now."
Su Mo propped her chin on her knees, looking at him, "They can avoid simple attacks."
The man stroked the Crystal Stone in his hand and said softly, "I noticed."
Seeing his calmness, Su Mo couldn’t help but kick his leg lightly with her foot, "This means the zombies are evolving as a group."
"Aren’t we progressing too?" he replied.
"That’s true," Su Mo sighed and picked up the Spiritual Power Crystal Stone. "This is from a Level 3 zombie. The previous Spiritual Zombies, besides being blind, had a fleshy tail. This one, besides being smarter, no longer has a tail in its appearance."
"What do you think triggered their evolution again?" Lu Chen looked down, pulled her leg toward him, and enveloped her bare, delicate foot in his hand.
The warmth from his palm and the moderate pressure of the foot massage made Su Mo comfortably squint her eyes, "The snow, since after the last rain, zombies went through their first wave of evolution."
"Very clever," he remarked.
Su Mo scooted closer to him, "Do we really have to head to the Western Region? Looking at how things are progressing, I feel our journey will be very dangerous."
The evolution of intelligence in zombies would make survival increasingly difficult for humans.
"This place will fall sooner or later," Lu Chen’s voice was cold.
Su Mo’s expression darkened, and she sighed, "That’s true. The number of zombies in this university town is not small, and once the snow stops, barriers won’t hold back the intelligent zombies."
Outside, Ding Yan’s voice calling for Li Qian was heard.
Su Mo pulled back her feet, put on her shoes, "Let’s go out and see."
The two emerged from the tent. Inside the gym, all the water pipes had been securely blocked, and no traces of rats had been found yet.
For the time being, they were safe.
The temperature inside the pipes was too low, causing several students to show symptoms of hypothermia. Ding Yan was preparing to distribute blankets, naturally coming to seek their consent.
"The students can’t wait; distribute them now," Li Qian said gently.
Ding Yan thanked them again and then notified people to go downstairs and call the students up to receive the blankets.
With just over a hundred blankets and several mattresses, they temporarily addressed most students’ immediate needs.
As night fell, all the regular students huddled in their blankets, with the two huge bonfires in the room barely keeping the indoor temperature at around -10°C.
Still, it was too cold. The bone-chilling cold caused some of them to catch colds, and the sounds of sneezing and coughing echoed through the room from time to time.
On the second floor, Su Mo and the others were invited to dinner again, and Jiang Yulian, as usual, did not attend. In such times, children must not catch a chill.
Su Mo took Ling Ye’s little hand, leading him and Lu Chen and others downstairs.
She sat down close to Lu Chen and closed the clothes around Ling Ye. There was a bonfire here, which was much more bearable than upstairs and not very cold with a fur coat on.
Making eye contact with Ding Yan and the attentive gazes of a few teachers, Su Mo responded with a smile.
They were cooking, and it looked more plentiful than yesterday.
There was a whole box of sardine tins and two large pots of white porridge simmering on the stove.
Seeing the cans of fish, many students started to make a racket cheerfully, creating a lively atmosphere.
However, not far away, He Fei and a few other superpower users had expressions that were not very joyful.
Because they had lost another person today.
Su Mo glanced their way briefly, and then a ponytailed girl approached them after nudging a girl next to her.
It was the Wood Element Superpower User who Lu Chen had saved earlier in the day.
But her target wasn’t herself, it was Lu Chen next to her.
"You...hello," the girl said with a blush, then bowed to Lu Chen, "Thank you for saving me this afternoon."
Lu Chen lifted his eyes and gave her a brief look, nodding without expression in response, "It was nothing."
"Um... My name is Mu Rou, you can call me Xiao Rou," she boldly sat down beside Lu Chen, extending her hand in friendship.
The man didn’t reach out to shake her hand; he withdrew his gaze and stood up, "I’ll go get some porridge."
"Ah, thank you," Mu Rou’s face turned even redder, and she withdrew her hand, not daring to meet his eyes as she watched him walk away, seeing Su Mo sitting next to her.
"Hello, I’m Mu Rou"
She then greeted Su Mo as well.
Su Mo raised an eyebrow, "Hello."
"You must be that gentleman’s sister, you look so cute," Mu Rou said with a flushed face, leaning toward Su Mo with a series of compliments.
"Sister?!" Zhao Changsheng, not far away, heard this and burst out laughing loudly, his eyes gleaming with a hint of satisfaction.
Su Mo couldn’t help but turn to look at the man getting the porridge, her smile widening, her voice soft yet casual, "I’m his wife."
"Ah?" Mu Rou was startled.
By then, Lu Chen had already returned with three bowls of porridge, carrying two cans of sardines under his arm.
Mu Rou only said one thing, "You’re quite the joker, you look so young."
She straightened up, looking at Lu Chen with a hopeful expression in her eyes.
Strong men always attract extra attention.
Su Mo didn’t explain, just smiling as she watched Lu Chen approach, a touch of displeasure in her eyes.
"What’s wrong?" Lu Chen came to her side, placing the porridge in front of her and Ling Ye.
Mu Rou reached out to take the porridge but ended up grasping the air, her face turning even redder, this time in embarrassment.
Zhao Changsheng laughed without any regard for her dignity, attracting many glances.
Li Qian’s eyes darkened, pushing the prepared porridge towards her, "Stop laughing."
