Chapter 280: Chapter 278: Isolation
She couldn’t help but look up, "Have you done this before?"
Lu Chen didn’t speak, just rubbed the top of her head.
He Fei, who had been busy inside, finally noticed the few people who had been watching outside the window.
He wiped the blood off his hands and sent them back to the classroom, "The night will pass quickly, don’t come out tonight."
They all understood that whether they could get through this depended entirely on whether the fever would subside.
Back in the classroom, He Fei locked their classroom door from the outside.
Night gradually fell.
The vast expanse of white snow became especially eye-catching in the twilight.
A few of them sat together and had dinner. Lu Chen handed the diapers he had fetched to Jiang Yulian, while occasional soft voices could be heard from both sides.
The general content was nothing more than today’s gains and that bear.
The weather grew colder and colder,; for some reason, the temperature kept dropping to the extreme since it started snowing.
Su Mo stood up, closed the classroom windows tightly, and pulled over the dust-laden curtains. She coughed twice and rubbed her eyes that had gotten dusty, "Let’s go to sleep early."
Li Qian moved a chair to sit on the platform, while Lu Chen took out several sleeping bags and distributed them.
Jiang Yulian, with her child, and Ling Ye slept in a corner inside the classroom.
Zhao Changsheng directly slept on a few tables that had been put together.
Su Mo and Lu Chen slept by the back door of the classroom, alert for any emergencies so they could notice them in time.
The ground was dirty, and inside the sleeping bags was extremely cold; Su Mo shrank inside the sleeping bag, her toes were so cold they felt numb.
She sneakily glanced at Lu Chen, who had already closed his eyes, rolled her eyes, and quietly opened the zipper of his sleeping bag beside him, sneaking her whole body inside.
The man half-closed his eyes and casually pulled her into his embrace, letting her lie on his chest, "Cold?"
Su Mo nodded. Although the Beef Soup had an effect, its Basic effect wasn’t very significant—she was still unbearably cold.
The zipper of the sleeping bag was pulled up again. Compared to the cold air outside, Lu Chen’s body heat was still very warm for Su Mo.
She even excessively stuck her hand into the nape of his neck, and Lu Chen didn’t react to this bit of warmth stimulus at all.
But this was expected. She whispered, "Sleep on your side."
After all, she was now lying entirely on top of him, and she was worried her weight might make it difficult for him to breathe.
Lu Chen turned onto his side as she asked, burying her entire body in his embrace.
Su Mo nuzzled into his chest and contentedly closed her eyes.
Night descended.
The air seemed to get even colder, and even Zhao Changsheng, sleeping on the tables, occasionally made sounds of turning over and murmuring softly.
Su Mo was woken up by the noise. Because of her keen hearing, she heard some discordant sounds coming from next door.
On one side were the suppressed moans of patients in a high fever, and on the other were the sounds of men and women seeking thrills.
She covered her ears, slightly lifted her head, and discovered that Lu Chen was staring at her with his eyes wide open.
Su Mo shifted upwards and whispered, "Why aren’t you asleep yet?"
He suddenly pinched her face with his hand, "Noisy."
So he had heard it too. Su Mo swatted his hand away and rubbed her face, "Let’s try to sleep."
As the two whispered, the noises from next door grew louder, and it seemed that even more people had joined in.
Su Mo buried in his chest noticed the strange sensation gradually arising within the sleeping bag. Her face flushed, she looked up and whispered in a low voice, "Lu Chen, what are you doing!"
The man looked down, his voice calm, "A natural reaction."
"..." Su Mo felt the heat rush from the soles of her feet to the top of her head, burning her all over. She reached out to pull open the zipper, intending to crawl out of his arms.
His large hand firmly fixed her waist and found her lips with his own, covering them with a thin kiss.
Su Mo froze, not daring to move as he sought her mouth, because Jiang Yulian was lying not far away and Li Qian was still sitting on the podium.
She was small and completely enveloped by him, but even so, she could not stand his boldness.
Su Mo tried to push him away, but he directly grasped her hand...
An ambiguous atmosphere unfolded from the corner.
The warmth inside the sleeping bag became fully substantial.
When he finally released her, satisfied, Su Mo’s mouth was swollen, and Lu Chen had not expected to see the young girl with tears in her eyes.
The beastliness within him, just calmed, was again stirred; he rolled his throat and pressed a kiss to her forehead, "Sleep now."
Su Mo closed her eyes resentfully, even her earlobes turning a faint pink.
However, the temperature was indeed much warmer, and her entire body became cozily warm.
She really could not resist this hint of warmth and fell asleep.
...
As dawn was about to break, Lu Chen got up to change guard. With the loss of the heat source beside her, Su Mo instantly woke up. She exhaled and noticed that even indoors, she could blow out a layer of white mist.
She stayed in the sleeping bag for a while longer, but when it became unbearably cold, she got out of the sleeping bag, put on a fur coat, moved a stool next to Lu Chen, and said softly, "Isn’t the temperature too low?"
"Hmm, it’s a bit abnormal," the man adjusted the clothes on her body.
The two sat in silence for a while when two gunshots rang out nearby.
The sound startled everyone in the room.
Faint cries of panic and pain came through; Su Mo walked to the window, pulled back the curtain, and looked to the side where two bodies were being carried out.
"Something happened?" Zhao Changsheng, rubbing his eyes, climbed off the table, grabbed his clothes, and put them on.
Jiang Yulian’s child in her arms burst into crying from the shock, and Ling Ye was also startled awake, bouncing up from the ground.
"Two people are dead," Su Mo drew the curtains and turned to say, "It’s still early, go back to sleep."
"Can’t sleep, it’s too cold. Even indoors, it must be several degrees below zero," Zhao Changsheng jumped off the table, exhaled a cold breath, and rubbed his arms together.
The group all got out of bed; Lu Chen took out Beef Soup stored in the Space and placed it on the table. Su Mo brought bowls and chopsticks, calling out to Li Qian who had just entered the sleeping bag not long ago, "It’s too cold, drink some soup before going back to sleep. At this rate, even the sleeping bag won’t be enough."
Li Qian was indeed very cold; this temperature was absurdly low. He came out of the sleeping bag, put on his clothes, drank the soup, and felt much better.
After eating, he went back to sleep.
No further noises came from the classrooms on either side.
A few more hours passed, the day brightened completely, and the snow outside showed no sign of stopping.
He Fei led people to unlock the lock outside their classroom. His eyes were red and swollen, his mood not very good, "Pack up and come with us, you’re all clear now."
Li Qian, who had rested for a while, also got up with everyone to pack and followed He Fei out the door.
Two other classrooms also came out, adding up to a considerable procession of over twenty people.
Having struggled in the post-apocalyptic world for a long time, these students all had a calmness not fitting their age on their faces, but they were surprised upon seeing the child in Jiang Yulian’s arms and the gender-neutral Ling Ye.
Their expressions were not as exaggerated as He Fei’s the day before.
