Chapter 278: Chapter 276: The School
"This... you guys are the first group to come over," He Fei said with a look of surprise on his face, and then called to his companions, "The snow is too heavy, let’s talk when we get back."
Su Mo closed the car window, the breath she exhaled was a burst of white, "Follow them."
Lu Chen started the car and followed behind them, heading towards K University.
Along the way, there were no signs of zombie activities in the streets of the main city, as if they had vanished into thin air.
Where did all the zombies go?
This question lingered in the minds of everyone inside the car.
The car ahead slowly stopped, and on the left was the western entrance to K University.
It was sealed with high, hard metal barricades, obviously the work of a Gold Element Superpower User, leaving only a small door for one car to pass through.
He Fei got out of the front car, the door opened, and a few male students came out. After a brief conversation, He Fei walked over to them, and Lu Chen rolled down the window, his eyes questioning.
"You’ll have to walk in," He Fei peeked inside the car and said.
Su Mo reflexively looked towards Jiang Yulian in the back, "Aunt Jiang’s shoes..."
"I’ll carry her, get out of the car," Lu Chen turned off the ignition and opened the door to get out.
Su Mo stepped out of the car, a sense of crisis rising inexplicably in her heart. Without leaving a trace, she glanced at the teaching building not far in front of her. Upon spotting the black barrel of a gun at the leftmost window on the seventh floor, she discreetly withdrew her gaze.
The line of people got out of the car. Jiang Yulian stepped into the snowy ground and felt a bone-chilling pain under her feet.
It was cold, really cold. She shook her foot and held the sleeping child even tighter.
After securing the car, Lu Chen came to Jiang Yulian’s side, crouched down, patted his shoulder, and said faintly, "Come on."
Jiang Yulian looked at the child in her arms with some difficulty. Su Mo noticed her dilemma and walked over to offer her hand, "Let me hold him."
"Alright, this way he won’t wake up easily," Jiang Yulian carefully handed her child over and showed her how to hold him for better sleep.
Su Mo carefully took the child, relieved that the baby didn’t wake up in her arms. She then used her coat to cover his face to prevent frostbite.
Only then did Jiang Yulian climb onto Lu Chen’s back. The man carried her on his back, stood up, and followed behind He Fei, "Let’s go."
He Fei took a special look at Lu Chen, making some calculations in his mind; a Space Superpower User was the resource they were currently most in need of.
"After so long since the apocalypse, you still have two children with you, even one who needs milk. How did you survive?!"
He Fei first glanced at the child in Su Mo’s arms, then noticed Ling Ye, who was holding on to her clothes from behind, and felt somewhat astonished.
Su Mo gently patted the child’s back, focusing all her attention on the little one who was snoring softly, ignoring his question.
Li Qian took off his glasses, blew on the lenses while walking, and said, "Just lucky, I guess."
His words inevitably contained a touch of modesty.
However, the students following them didn’t dare to underestimate them anymore.
Anyone who could manage to move around in the apocalypse with two children couldn’t be simple. Just looking at their black fur coats and full gear, they were clearly out of the ordinary.
Students walking by couldn’t help but ask with a tinge of envy, "Where did you scrounge up those coats? We’ve turned almost the whole city inside out and it’s all summer clothes; thick outfits are too scarce."
"Had someone make them," Su Mo chimed in. She looked up and smiled, "But now they’ve been discontinued."
The others said no more, silently wrapping their collars tighter around themselves as He Fei led them to the front of a teaching building.
It was a few hundred meters straight ahead from the western entrance, the closest to the outside.
"We need to isolate in the South Building for one night, and tomorrow we’ll take you to meet our teacher," He Fei said as he pushed open the door of the teaching building and led them inside.
Li Qian surveyed the surroundings. "Do you still have many students who survived?"
He Fei led them up the stairs and glanced back at him, his expression somber,
"We consider ourselves lucky. The meteor didn’t hit the school; a few hundred of us survived. But we only secured this small area to the west. The south side, separated by the road, is all zombies. The incident happened so suddenly, we were inside the school and couldn’t leave."
Su Mo nodded in understanding; back then, she was still attending college. If she hadn’t moved out and rented a place on her own, she might now be one of them.
He Fei, with his group, led them into a classroom. "You’ll stay here for the night. We have more than one team going out to search for supplies, and later, other teams may come back to isolate."
What he meant was for them not to wander around.
After putting Jiang Yulian down, Lu Chen brushed the snow off his body and coldly said thanks.
He Fei could tell that this man with a strong presence was their leader. He nodded at him and took his group to another classroom to isolate.
Inside the classroom, all the desks and chairs were still as they had been, covered with a thick layer of dust; obviously, no one had been in here for a long time.
Su Mo handed the child back to Jiang Yulian. She had been careful all along the way, and the kid hadn’t woken up yet. Su Mo tried the classroom switch, but the power was already cut.
Zhao Changsheng took off his fur coat and shook it out. "Momo, take your clothes off and shake them; they’re all wet."
Su Mo felt the fur on her body, which had indeed become damp. She took off her jacket, shook it, and then said to Lu Chen, "You should take yours off and shake it too; don’t catch a cold."
"Alright."
After shaking off the water, Su Mo crouched down and helped Ling Ye dry his clothes.
Fortunately, the fur of the mutated gorilla just needed a shake, and the hair became dry and fluffy again. Su Mo couldn’t help admiring her own cleverness again. She looked out at the snowy scenery, "It’s my first time seeing such heavy snow; it’s knee-deep after just one night."
Ling Ye tugged at his clothes and said in a doughy voice, "It’s my first time seeing it too."
Su Mo tousled his hair. Before the apocalypse, global warming meant that even in the coldest winter, they only wore fleece hoodies. The time for wearing padded jackets was getting shorter and shorter, and a snowstorm like this was nothing short of a spectacle.
No wonder it was so hard to find padded jackets in the city now; even the stock was pitifully low.
"It’s not a bad thing to rest here for a few days," Zhao Changsheng replied. She disdainfully pushed the tables to one side, "But there’s so much dust here."
"It’s just one night," Su Mo said as she walked over and helped her push the tables to the back near the blackboard.
Clearing a large space on the floor, Li Qian also used a broom from the classroom to sweep briefly, cleaning the area.
After cleaning, they pushed a few tables together. Su Mo then grabbed some chairs and brought them over, and the group took their seats.
