Chapter 269: Infectant

Chapter 269: Infectant

Fortunately, their modified military vehicle had a trunk converted into a seat, and adding one more person was no big deal.

Hu Ding followed and approached Lu Chen, "Take care, brother."

"Aren’t you coming?" Su Mo asked, looking puzzled.

Hu Ding smiled freely and patted Lu Chen on the arm. "He and I are not the same. This kid Lu Chen has always fought alone. I grew up in an orphanage, but I’ve made it this far with a bunch of brothers. There’s no way I’d leave them behind."

It was a bond between comrades. Su Mo understood and felt it was a pity, but the number of people at the B City base was too large, and the horror of the Outer Ring was simply unimaginable to her.

Once the outbreak began, by tomorrow, the whole base would be completely overrun.

Su Mo gripped Lu Chen’s hand tighter, "He’s mine, and I won’t let him stay."

"Of course," Hu Ding stepped back and saluted Lu Chen, "Even though you’re no longer at the Jiang Residence, I still owe you this gesture."

Lu Chen’s eyes darkened, a swell of emotions in his gaze. He released Su Mo and returned the salute, "If we really can’t hold them back, then retreat."

"We need to hurry, time waits for no one," Hu Ding didn’t directly respond to his words but instead patted his car.

The group got into the car. Jiang Hai emerged from the villa, watching them drive away, his figure still erect.

...

Upon leaving the Inner Ring, the rate of infection in the Second Ring drastically increased.

The sudden internal outbreak had already thrown the superpower users into chaos; their attacks were utterly disorderly. Several times, Lu Chen barely managed to control the steering wheel and swerve sharply to avoid the attacks of superpowers.

The formerly flourishing scenes were no longer in sight.

Cars rushed out of every street corner and alley, heading straight for the Outer Ring.

They all knew that there was only one way out of the B City base, and that was through the exit at the Outer Ring.

By then, the Outer Ring had already turned into a hell.

Lu Chen pulled out another plate of pumpkin made by Su Mo, and after the people in the car shared it, they gradually approached the Outer Ring.

Above the high-rise building where they used to live, a huge explosion echoed, filling the street with white wriggling insects and the infected, roaming like the walking dead.

"Here! Lu Chen!"

Ahead, Rong Bai waved his hand, his robust voice shouting loudly.

Seeing him, Lu Chen steered the car into the alley.

"Brother, you finally made it out," Rong Bai clung to his window, "I was about to rush in to find you."

Jin Han’s car was also there; he had brought his whole squad. Seeing Su Mo, he expressed his gratitude, "Thank goodness Miss Su sent Li Qian to alert me."

Across Lu Chen, Su Mo told the two people outside the window, "Let’s talk after we get out; we don’t know what the situation in the Outer Ring is like."

Now was not the time for chit-chat.

Everyone got back into the car.

Lu Chen started the car and drove out of the alley. The exit of the Second Ring was very close, but the entrance was partly blocked by several wrecked cars wreathed in flames.

Su Mo magnified the scene in her pupils; each car contained dead bodies, and one of the drivers was half hanging out of the car window, with white insects moving all around.

"Hold on tight," Lu Chen shifted gears, his foot pushed the accelerator to the floor as he charged towards the exit.

Seeing this, Jiang Yulian immediately hugged her child and lay down in the seat. Since the rear seat of the modified vehicle had no seat belts, she was very likely to be thrown out due to inertia.

Lu Chen drove the car while Su Mo saw the speedometer surge to over two hundred miles per hour. She couldn’t help but swallow, feeling almost as if they were taking off.

The sharp angle of the car’s front directly rammed into the vehicles blocking the way at an incredible speed, causing the struck vehicle to explode under the massive impact.

Lu Chen violently turned the steering wheel, narrowly avoiding the explosion, and rushed to the Outer Ring, but due to the immense speed, he couldn’t stop immediately.

Rong Bai and Jin Han followed closely behind, everyone in their cars clenching their hearts in fear.

Dense black smoke obscured his view and Lu Chen lost his bearings. Li Qian immediately said, "The exit is on the left, but there are wave-like zombies to your front left, you need to go straight right, where some obstacles can stop the car."

Lu Chen did as instructed immediately. The tires screeched against the ground, producing large sparks and turning sharply before crashing into the car that had been forced to stop in front.

Due to inertia, Su Mo was thrown from her seat and then violently pulled back by the seatbelt, smashing back into her chair.

She turned her head to check on Lu Chen and, seeing him unharmed, she let out a sigh of relief, half-turning to ask, "Is everyone okay, Aunt Jiang?"

Jiang Yulian crawled up from under the seat, clutching the child and breathed a sigh of relief, "We’re fine, I’m very well."

Su Mo nodded and calmed down.

As the thick black smoke cleared up in front of them, chaos unfolded before their eyes on a massive scale.

It turns out they had collided with a vehicle stranded in the middle of the road, and beyond it, countless people were running and screaming.

The crowd here was twice as dense as at the Second Ring.

"Let me on the car! Please let me on!"

A raggedly dressed man was leaning on the car window on Su Mo’s side, desperately slamming the outer metal grating. His eyeballs were rolling in terror.

"There are too many zombies here," Su Mo turned her head to Lu Chen and said, "Open the sunroof, I’ll help you clear the obstacles."

"I’ll go, Momo," Zhao Changsheng immediately straightened up upon hearing this, raising his hand and knocking on the sunroof, "My Thunder Whip has a longer range."

Su Mo, knowing she was better suited for close combat, didn’t argue. Lu Chen opened the sunroof and Zhao Changsheng promptly climbed out.

Nearby, Li Qian squinted his eyes, his spiritual power spreading out again, "We need to speed up, there are too many of them here."

Lu Chen adjusted the gear to reverse, but the tires almost ignited sparks from the friction on the ground, yet the car did not move an inch.

"Is something stuck?" Su Mo asked.

Zombies were increasingly surrounding their vehicle.

Lu Chen switched off the engine, as cold air encircled him, "I’ll go down and clear it."

He opened the car door, stepped out, and instantly conjured Ice Shields around him, Ice Blade piercing directly through a zombie’s brain.

Worms burst out with the blood plasma, splattering onto the Ice Shield in front of him.

Su Mo opened her protective cover, "I’ll also go down and clear; Li Qian, you drive!"

"Okay," Li Qian immediately moved from between the seats to the driver’s seat.

Su Mo opened the car door, Tang Blade in hand, chopped off the head of the zombie in front of her, larvae splashing against her protective cover. She moved next to Lu Chen, guarding in front of him.

"Is there a problem with the tires? Check them. My protective cover can hold for a while."

Lu Chen crouched down and sure enough, a zombie’s head was tightly lodged in the front left tire, having broken off from the crashed vehicle in front.

Seeing that he was handling it, Su Mo charged into the mob of zombies ahead.

Many survivors were still desperately resisting. Seeing that their vehicles had stopped, Rong Bai and Jin Han turned to come and help clear the zombies.

Brandishing her blade, Su Mo wildly slaughtered through the pile of zombies.
