Su Mo was dazed, unable to snap back to reality, as Zhao Changsheng and Jiang Yulian changed her into a dress—a shoulder-baring wedding gown that fit snugly at the waist, its size accurate to the last centimeter. The multi-layered skirt was carefully arranged and laid down by the two of them.

Her hair spilled over her shoulders, and her unpainted face glowed with a rosy and adorable freshness.

"That stinky man is really getting a bargain," Zhao Changsheng pinched Su Mo’s face, with a look of regret on her face.

As soon as she finished speaking, the door to the room swung open and Lu Chen entered, clad in a black suit, striding in with a firm posture.

Seeing him, Su Mo’s face turned red. She twirled in front of him, "Do I look good?"

"Very beautiful," Lu Chen took her hand and kissed it.

"Let’s go, it’s about time," Jiang Yulian said, patting Lu Chen’s back and sniffing back her emotions.

"Silly child," Jiang Yulian instantly teared up, stepping forward to give him a hug, "No matter if you are at the Jiang Residence or not, Auntie always hopes you’ll be well."

Lu Chen didn’t want to miss a single ritual; a red carpet was laid all the way into the training ground, with friends and acquaintances of the couple sitting on either side—Jin Han, Su Niang, Hu Ding, and others were all there.

At the end of the carpet stood an aged Jiang Residence soldier, dressed in a brand new military uniform, serving as the official witness.

Su Mo was led to the entrance by Jiang Yulian; with no parents, Li Qian was to accompany her down this path.

Just as she took his arm, they were interrupted by Rong Bai, who had just arrived.

"I’m late, sister-in-law," he changed into a suit but still couldn’t conceal his travel-worn appearance.

"Did you just return from a mission?" Su Mo examined him from head to toe.

Rong Bai nodded and reached out his hand, "How about I accompany you down the aisle?"

He was Lu Chen’s brother, so of course, Su Mo had no objections. She turned to Li Qian, "Go find Zhao Changsheng and bring her to sit."

Li Qian nodded with a smile and stepped away.

As the sounds inside rose, Su Mo unconsciously gripped Rong Bai’s sleeve tighter. Rong Bai smiled and said, "Relax, let’s go."

"Okay," Su Mo’s face broke into a smile.

The training ground was simply arranged, with just a few rows of benches seating friends who were like family.

For Su Mo, this unique wedding was incredibly precious. Her lover stood at the end of the red carpet, his eyes brimming with tenderness.

The surroundings were filled with the rising and falling sounds of congratulations. Step by step, Su Mo walked toward Lu Chen, until Rong Bai finally handed her into the palm of his hand.

Under the witnessing eyes of everyone, the two of them recited their vows. The rings were brought by Da Bai, who was wearing a tie and waddled over with a fuzzy behind.

Several times, Da Bai nearly strayed off course, but it was Hu Ding who had to run over and usher him to the couple’s side.

Su Mo nearly laughed herself into Lu Chen’s embrace, but in the end, the two successfully exchanged rings and sealed their vows with a kiss.

Cheers erupted inside the Jiang Residence training ground, filled with joy and harmony.

On the perimeter, in the car, Lu Jin gently kissed the bite mark on his palm. From the intercom in the car, a voice came through, "Mr. Lu Jin, this is the underground laboratory staff, are you there?"

The voice on the other end was panicked, laced with caution.

"Speak."

"The substance from the original specimen has been extracted, but I’ve recently found that the injected blood is behaving abnormally; a group of people have already died."

"Pretend you don’t know, continue the research," Lu Jin leaned back, a dark fierceness gleaming in his eyes.

"But, the first batch of people who successfully fused with the medicine are about to be released, shouldn’t we report this to Commander Jiang?"

"I don’t want to repeat myself. Keep it quiet, do what you need to do with your people, and you won’t be short of compensation."

"Yes."

The communication was cut off, and Lu Jin’s expression gradually distorted.

A simple wedding banquet, Su Mo felt it was the most precious thing in the world.

The festivities continued until the evening before everyone finally dispersed.

Jiang Yulian left early to look after the children. The two of them were still inside the small building, not yet gone. Su Mo changed out of her clothes and sat down to fold the wedding dress.

"Do you like Da Bai?" Lu Chen asked from behind her, looking at the top of her head.

"Leave it to Hu Ding. Those two are good brothers," Su Mo said as she finished folding the wedding dress. She also took off her ring and passed it to him, "Keep our rings safe."

"Mmm," Lu Chen rubbed the top of her head, took the items, and they walked hand in hand out of the training field to face Fang Ya, who had been waiting for a long time.

"Son...my son," Fang Ya stopped him, gathering the courage to say, "Happy wedding."

The man’s face darkened, looking at her without saying a word. Su Mo scratched his palm with her fingertip, and only then did he reply coldly, "Thank you."

They walked past her and were about to get into the car and leave, when Fang Ya called out from behind, "Son, I can’t stay at the Jiang Residence. Come to find your mother. Your Uncle Lu promised me, everything of the Lu Family will be yours."

Su Mo’s heart sank. She instantly felt that Lu Chen’s thank you was really not worth it. She turned around, her gaze sharp, "Lady Fang, I think there is a word that suits you perfectly."

"Idiot."

Su Mo left without any mercy after dropping those two words, pulling Lu Chen away with large strides.

Back at the apartment, Su Mo kicked off her shoes and sprawled on the sofa, smiling radiantly at Lu Chen, "I love you so much."

His eyes softened slightly, wrapping her in his embrace, "Are you happy?"

"Yes, I just hope this kind of day can last a bit longer," Su Mo said, kissing his chin.

"It will," he replied.

He carried her into the bedroom.

In the following month, the base remained peaceful. Su Mo’s panicked reactions had not appeared again, all the way up until today, when the first batch of people who had been injected with the medicine were released after a series of screenings.

A brand new species triggered a massive wave of celebration throughout the B City base.

Everyone was cheering for those who had evolved from ordinary citizens into superpower users.

But there were also some who experienced mishaps.

Today was the day those new species would return. Su Mo was cooking in the house, while three adults and one child were chatting in the living room.

Her door was being pounded desperately, with cries and sounds of grief mixed in from outside.

Su Mo wiped her hands and went to open the door; standing outside was none other than Xiaoqiao, whom she hadn’t seen for a long time.

She was crying her eyes out, and upon seeing Su Mo, she immediately fell to her knees begging for help, "Please, save my parents, I’m begging you, save them."

Zhao Changsheng saw her, put down the leg he had propped up, and stood up, "What happened?"

Lu Chen remained silent, but the coldness in his phoenix eyes showed his displeasure.

As soon as Zhao Changsheng heard her speak, she understood, and she returned to sit on the sofa, her hands folded on her knees, slumping down with a sense of lethargy, "I warned you before, what’s the use of asking him when they didn’t return?"
