The Chef Rules the Last Days -
Chapter 250 - 248: Delivering Eggs
Chapter 250: 248: Delivering Eggs
Six people gathered around the small living room for dinner. Although the seating was a bit cramped, there was still enough room to stretch their arms.
"Pumpkin Protection Shield?" Zhao Changsheng took a bite of the pumpkin and, hearing the prompt, looked amazed.
Su Mo’s mind snapped back, and she chuckled, "Try and see what this does. I spent two thousand points on it."
Zhao Changsheng put down his chopsticks, thought for a moment, and a faint orange protective shield expanded around him, almost bouncing Li Qian, who was sitting next to him, out of his seat.
Li Qian squeezed to the side, looking helpless, "Put it away."
Zhao Changsheng retracted the shield, his face a mixture of excitement and thrill, "Momo, this thing is incredible! How did you think of swapping it for this!"
Su Mo bit her chopstick and glanced at Lu Chen, then turned her head and said, "Just in case we need it."
She then pointed with her chopsticks at the pot of beef soup, "This is to stave off the cold. Winter is coming soon, and drinking this is not bad."
The steaming soup, filled with slices of potatoes, bits of meat, and diced carrots, was enough to make anyone’s mouth water.
The six people cleaned every dish on the table.
After the meal, Su Niang went to wash the dishes, and Ling Ye also moved a small stool to stand beside her and help.
Su Mo brewed some hot water for everyone and sat down next to Lu Chen, starting to fiddle with his fingers.
Li Qian took a sip of water, looked at the darkening sky outside, and said, "Today outside was almost turned upside down."
Su Mo raised an eyebrow, "How come?"
"The first batch of experiment participants started enrolling today," Zhao Changsheng said while stretching his legs and rubbing his round belly, then belched.
"As expected," Su Mo nodded.
"Do you know how many people signed up?" Zhao Changsheng suddenly dropped his legs, his fox-like eyes twinkling.
"How many?"
Zhao Changsheng replied, "Almost everyone from the Outer Ring who’s ordinary went there. Xiaoqiao came this morning to tell me her parents had also signed up."
Su Mo stopped playing with Lu Chen’s hand, and the man turned his hand over, enveloping her hand within his, and said indifferently, "For the next few days, do not go outside."
"What are you both worried about?" Li Qian adjusted his glasses, feeling skeptical about their expressions.
Su Mo pursed her lips, "It’s a bit complex to explain simply, but it’s about the substances extracted from the prototypes that rapidly grow and divide. Lu Chen and I have seen something similar on Mutant Island, but that thing..."
She looked up at Lu Chen, sighed, and continued, "That thing takes over bodies, and I’ve already handed over the analysis files I brought back for research."
The atmosphere in the living room became solemn, as they could imagine what would happen to the base if things went awry.
Eventually, Su Mo said, "There’s not much we can do now. Maybe they will succeed, we just need to stay quietly at home for a few days."
Zhao Changsheng stood up from his chair, "I’ll go back and make sure Xiaoqiao stays at home these next few days."
After Su Niang finished cleaning the dishes, Li Qian stood up, gathered everyone, and they said their goodbyes.
Su Mo, pulling Lu Chen along, accompanied the group to the elevator.
"Ding."
The door opened, and a person walked out. He paused and then his bag clattered to the ground.
"Huang Qi?" Su Mo had met this man once before. At that time, she thought he and Su Niang looked alike, hmm? Looked alike?
She immediately turned her head, her gaze shifting back and forth between Su Niang’s and Huang Qi’s faces.
When that person, trembling, called out Su Niang’s name, it shocked everyone.
"Mom?"
With a tone full of caution and probing.
Su Niang’s eyes reddened in an instant, "Son... my son!? My Huang Qi, my son?"
She threw herself into her son’s arms and they held each other, sobbing loudly at the elevator entrance.
Li Qian had lived opposite Su Niang before and had encountered her son a few times. His expression remained gentle, but there was a slight stiffness in his demeanor.
Zhao Changsheng sensed his discomfort and touched Li Qian’s arm, a hint of concern in her eyes.
Li Qian glanced at her and said softly to Su Niang, "Let’s go back first."
"Yes, yes, yes," Su Niang wiped her tears and pulled Huang Qi into the elevator, so excited that she forgot about Ling Ye. It was Li Qian who took his little hand and led everyone out of the elevator.
Su Mo knew that this was going to get complicated.
The next day, she slept until noon again. Since Lu Chen had moved in with her, he had been restless every night, constantly tempting her to drink Biluochun tea.
Once this man started, he was like a wild beast unleashed, fierce and wild.
And every time, she would embarrassingly succumb to his overwhelming charm, obediently letting him have his way.
Su Mo sighed at the thought; at that moment, she was leaning against the bathroom sink enjoying Lu Chen’s face-wiping service when suddenly someone knocked loudly on the front door.
After a quick cleanup, she opened the door to find Hu Ding waiting outside.
She invited him in.
Hu Ding was holding a large box of eggs and handed them to Su Mo as soon as he entered, "Sister-in-law, these are from Lu Chen for you."
"Eggs?" Su Mo was puzzled for three seconds before she turned and glared at Lu Chen with a flushed face, "You really are...!"
She carried the eggs into the bedroom and slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
Lu Chen’s eyes twinkled with amusement, but he concealed it when he met Hu Ding’s curious gaze. He sat down on the living room sofa, lounging casually, "You came to deliver eggs?"
Hu Ding rubbed his hands and approached him, "Not exactly, Chief Jiang sent me."
"What for?"
"The first batch of medicine was planted yesterday; he wants you to go see the results."
"No," Lu Chen replied curtly.
Hu Ding stomped his foot, sat down beside him and handed him a cigarette, "Don’t make it hard for me; if you don’t go, I won’t be able to explain to the Chief. Just do me this favor."
Lu Chen was silent for a moment, then gave him a look and deliberately took the cigarette and threw it into the trash can, "Alright, but there’s something you need to do for me."
After that, Su Mo could no longer hear anything from behind the door. Though her hearing was acute, she didn’t hear him speak again. When she heard footsteps approaching, she moved away from the door and sat back on the bed.
"Are you mad?"
Lu Chen entered from outside and gathered her into his arms.
Su Mo puffed her cheeks and glanced at him, "No."
He lifted her onto his lap, his voice soft, "Do you want to go with me?"
He knew she had heard.
Interest piqued, Su Mo nodded, "Can I?"
"As long as you want to," Lu Chen whispered, nibbling on her earlobe.
Su Mo instantly giggled and leaned her head back, "Sure, I’d like to see the progress of the experiment downstairs, Jiang Hai is trying to prove himself to you, isn’t he?"
"Mhm," he let her go, "Let’s grab something to eat, then I’ll take you there."
Su Mo nodded, and after they ate something and changed clothes, they left the house.
This was also their first time going out in the past two days.
