The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 242 - 240: Cooking

Chapter 242: Chapter 240: Cooking

"You had better remember what you promised me," Su Mo caressed his face, her eyes devoid of any joking intent.

"Okay."

The door was knocked on, and Hu Ding’s voice came from outside, "Admiral Lu, open the door, I have documents to deliver."

Su Mo tried to get off him but was pulled back by him. She gave him a glance and didn’t move.

"Come in."

When Hu Ding opened the door and came in, seeing the two people snuggled up, he silently scorned in his heart, thinking that this was why they had rushed back so quickly after the interrogation.

"Miss Su, we meet again."

Su Mo cast him a faint smile.

A document was placed in front of Lu Chen, an Evolved Humans propaganda plan.

"There has been a breakthrough at the laboratory; now we just need to do the comparison on the original body. If nothing unexpected happens at tomorrow’s banquet, we will start the production of the medicine. Take a look at this promotional document," he said.

Su Mo, sitting on his lap, took the initiative to pick up the document and flip through it. After reading the first few glorified sentences, she paused, "You’re planning to gather ordinary people for the trial?"

Hu Ding nodded noncommittally and raised one finger to point at the ceiling, "It’s a unanimous decision from the top and the research team."

"Live trials, voluntary enrollment?" Su Mo read out a series of slogans, her brow furrowing tighter, "This is equivalent to experimenting on the entire population of the Outer Ring."

"Yes."

Su Mo looked up at Lu Chen, seriously saying, "I think this is not a good thing."

Lu Chen flipped through the document in her hand, "With this, the Outer Ring will lose control."

Hu Ding sighed and said, "Indeed, who wouldn’t say so? With the promise of evolving, the people in the Outer Ring who are nearly starving will surely go mad."

He paused for a moment and added, "This matter has a very high call for it even within the military. Now, we just need to announce the news at the banquet."

Su Mo fell silent. No wonder they wanted to hold a banquet. She suddenly asked again, "Does the Lu Family agree to contribute the original body to you?"

Hu Ding’s expression turned awkward, and he cautiously glanced at Lu Chen, "This..."

"They want to shove Lu Yuan at me," Lu Chen was quite straightforward.

"Oh?" Su Mo raised an eyebrow, realizing why Lu Jin was so intent on having her attend the banquet.

"So, you plan to marry a sister who is not related to you by blood?" Su Mo looped her arms around Lu Chen’s neck, her round eyes unblinking and carrying a hint of threat as she stared into his eyes.

"I am not that disgusting."

The tone of his voice softened as if to appease her, laced with a hint of disdain.

Their interaction made Hu Ding wish he could turn around and leave immediately; in fact, that’s exactly what he did, but before he left, he reminded, "I have already taken the doctor over there, and the defenses are set up, so if you’re free tonight, you can start."

"Okay."

Seeing that Lu Chen didn’t even bother to spare him a glance, Hu Ding shook his head but also breathed a sigh of relief internally; with his wife back, the atmosphere had definitely changed.

"You’re treating someone?" Su Mo asked curiously.

"Treatment," Lu Chen said, lowering his head and gently licking her pearlescent ear.

Su Mo shivered with ticklishness and quickly retrieved her ear. Out of nowhere, a document stained with blood appeared in her hand, which she stuffed into his, "You look at this first."

"What is this?"

Seeing that his attention had been successfully diverted, Su Mo proudly tilted her chin up slightly, "Picked it up on the fly from South Island Laboratory."

Lu Chen was silent for three seconds before praising her, "Very smart."

"Thank you," Su Mo nodded, then moved off him and brought over a stool to sit beside him. She picked up a document from the table and placed it alongside another one, "Take a look, what’s different about these two types of bugs?"

Lu Chen flipped through the documents, and as time passed, the line of his jaw got tenser, and without knowing when, he had pulled out a pack of cigarettes. He was about to light one when he caught sight of the person carefully examining the documents with him and immediately put the cigarettes away.

Su Mo looked up and saw his stoic face. Instinctively, she reached out and scratched his chin, "What do you think about this?"

Lu Chen simply said, "You’ve saved me a lot of unnecessary trouble."

"Hmm?" Su Mo withdrew her hand and tapped on the document, "The original won’t cause any problems, will it?"

Lu Chen gathered up the documents, his tone mildly cold, "There are, and you can’t stop them."

In his words, Su Mo detected a hint of ruthlessness, but actually, with a little thought, it made sense; just the phrase ’Evolved Humans’ was enough to drive people mad. Even if there were problems, countless individuals would rush headlong into danger.

"Gurgle"

In the silent room, Su Mo’s stomach began to protest.

"Hungry?" The man’s large hand rubbed her head.

"Mhm," Su Mo shrugged off his hand and tightened her ponytail, "I’ll go cook."

She stood up, opened the door, and went downstairs.

Lu Chen also got up and followed her down.

Su Mo walked into the kitchen, familiar with the layout. Upon opening the cupboard, she was stunned; aside from a row of eggs, it was empty.

Lu Chen leaned against the kitchen doorway and also appeared a bit embarrassed, "I’ll call for some food to be delivered."

"No need," Su Mo shook her head in refusal, then turned around with hands on hips to give him a thorough up and down look, "Where have you been eating since you came back?"

"The training ground’s cafeteria," Lu Chen answered truthfully.

Su Mo sighed, "Why don’t you eat properly."

"The vegetables from the Space are finished."

Weren’t those all cooked by her?

For a moment, Su Mo was speechless; she simply said, "Alright then, I’ll see what I can make."

She took out both the Flat Pot and the iron pot. Having not cooked in so long, the fish in the pond had grown significantly and were quite plump.

She efficiently grabbed a Crucian Carp from the pond and thumped it onto the side of the sink, then took out the kitchen tools to start cleaning it, "By the way, where did these eggs come from?"

Lu Chen glanced at them and indifferently said, "Hu Ding caught a few unmutated chickens on a mission and raised them at the training ground; he gave them to us."

Su Mo glanced at the eggs, thinking they should suffice to make tomato and egg soup.

Lu Chen stood behind her, quietly watching her every move, with layers of distant memories shrouded in a thin mist, barely discernible contours visible.

He just stared at her, corners of his mouth turning up.

After cleaning the fish, Su Mo washed some rice and put it in the God Chef rice cooker, pressing the cook button.

Lu Chen didn’t have a clear memory of the rice cooker that could cook without electricity. He walked over, observing it with a trace of curiosity in his eyes.

Noticing his actions, Su Mo did not mind him and busied herself making braised Crucian Carp, then went online to the marketplace and spent several hundred points on some Bok Choy and a few tomatoes.

One meat dish, one vegetable dish, one soup.

Perfect for two people.

After preparing the Bok Choy and fish, Su Mo set to work on the final dish, tomato and egg drop soup. She was quite skilled at this simple soup, with plenty of experience making almost anything with proficiency.
