Chapter 236: Chapter 234: Horde of Corpses
The zombies’ shrieking grew closer and closer, so near that everyone could hear it, and the Fire Wolf Mercenary Group was the quickest to slip away.Su Mo propped Zhao Changsheng’s leg up as he stuffed her into the car; she had already begun to struggle in pain. Su Mo bit her lip and gave another bottle of Biluochun Tea to Li Qian, "I’ll ride in a different car, make her lie down. It’s tough to resist the virus. Take good care of her," she said.
"I understand," Li Qian tightened his grip on Zhao Changsheng’s shoulder, worry flickering in his eyes.
Su Mo closed the car door, tapped the car body a few times to signal them to drive, as Jin Han rolled down the window and said to her, "You go sit in the back with those kids."
"Okay," Su Mo nodded.
Just as she was about to run to the car, a modified military vehicle stopped in front of her. She met Lu Chen’s phoenix eyes and, without hesitation, opened the door and got in.
The convoy set off.
The man floored the accelerator, and the car surged forward rapidly.
He also casually tossed a towel to Su Mo, "To stop the bleeding."
With the towel in hand, Su Mo lowered her head to look at her incessantly bleeding arm. The Tang Blade was too sharp; the cut she had made earlier was deeper than intended.
But instead of using the towel, she pulled out a bottle of Biluochun Tea from the System Bag and took a sip. These teas were all prepared before they left Southern Island, and not many bottles were left; she would have to boil more when they returned.
The wound healed rapidly before her eyes, leaving behind only a pale scar within a minute.
Lu Chen merely glanced at her arm, now as good as new; there was no shock in his eyes, rather, a shade of relief.
They were about to reach and cross the place they had passed by the school bus.
Leading the way was the Fire Wolf Mercenary Group’s vehicle.
Su Mo crawled towards the back seat, grabbing the guns and magazines left there and smoothly loaded the bullets into the gun.
"Bang!"
It was the sound of a massive explosion.
Lu Chen hit the brakes hard, and Su Mo, along with the gun, nearly flew out; the man quickly shielded her head and pulled her back to her seat.
"What happened!?" Her gun had nearly discharged by accident.
Lu Chen lifted his gaze, his expression grim, "There’s more than one Mutant Plant."
Su Mo raised her head to see the vehicle of the Fire Wolf Mercenary Group being lifted by huge vines and tendrils, piercing through the entire body of the car, with blood splattering all over the windows and copious amounts of blood flowing from inside the vehicle.
"Where did they come from?!" Su Mo pressed her face against the dividing glass in front of the car, finally seeing the source of those plants: they had burst out from inside the charred bodies, "They actually broke out of those charred corpses!"
"No wonder the skin underneath is all purple plant tendrils!" Su Mo urgently said to Lu Chen.
Because their path was blocked, all the vehicles were forced to stop, and zombies were already beginning to show up around them.
Jin Han’s people had started to appear from inside their vehicles to deal with the zombies.
However, the number of these creatures far exceeded everyone’s estimates.
"Open the sunroof! I’ll go up and clear them; you drive," Su Mo said to Lu Chen.
He did as told, opening the sunroof and using the walkie-talkie in his hand to give orders, "All cars turn around and follow me."
Staying here to fight could easily result in being overwhelmed by an unforeseen horde of zombies, and he couldn’t take that risk.
Once Su Mo was positioned on the roof, Lu Chen turned the car around and sped off on an alternate route.
Jin Han immediately ordered his people to follow.
In Lu Chen’s mind, dozens of routes out of the city had already been marked; he chose one with fewer buildings.
Su Mo sat on the roof, her gun firing at the zombies rushing towards them.
Every shot she made was incredibly precise. With the death of a Level 5 monster and its suppression gone, it’s no wonder these zombies dared to emerge now.
Some Level 3 zombies had caught up with the vehicle.
Su Mo had no choice but to stand up on the roof of the car, drawing her Tang Blade to confront the zombie that leapt toward her.
The Tang Blade traced an arc in the air, chopping through the zombie’s claw, while the gun in her other hand swung to aim at its temple, and the trigger was pulled.
A shower of blood sprayed out, and the corpse fell from the sky, getting crushed into a pulp by the cars behind.
The car maneuvered around the collapsed entertainment city but came to an abrupt halt at a turn.
Su Mo managed to grab the iron net on the roof in time to prevent herself from being thrown out.
But the scene in front of her was enough to leave her stunned, a dense crowd of zombies, extending as far as the eye could see.
No matter if it was in front, to the left, or the right, zombies were everywhere.
"Damn it!" Su Mo crawled into the car, "The road is completely blocked!"
Lu Chen turned off the engine and quickly surveyed the layout of the surrounding buildings. He picked up the walkie-talkie with a calm voice, "Everyone, get out of the cars, we’ll go through the rooftops. Have the superpower users store the cars."
The rustling sound of clothes rubbing against each other and the stench emanating from their growling mouths were enough to make one’s skin crawl.
Su Mo flipped off the vehicle.
The vehicles behind her immediately stowed away. After Ruo Lin had taken care of one car, Ai Yang, for some reason, was reluctant to entrust the other one to Su Mo, fearing she would ask too much. In the end, it was Ruo Lin who had to relay a message to one of Lu Chen’s Space Superpower Users to help them store the vehicle.
Mo Yan felt a sting in his heart. Being suppressed in everything was not a pleasant feeling.
They didn’t have more than a few seconds to react. Su Mo ran over to store Jin Han and their cars. Zhao Changsheng was still whining in pain in Li Qian’s arms, her forehead already covered in a fine layer of sweat. Su Mo wiped the sweat off her forehead for her, "Hang in there, we haven’t escaped yet."
"Let’s go," Lu Chen was already standing under a tall building, with Mo Yan leading the charge inside.
Su Mo nodded and followed the rest of the group into the building.
Lu Chen closed the glass door behind them and began leading Su Mo upstairs.
The massive tide of zombies had reached the door just as it closed. The reinforced glass door, despite its strength, lasted only a few seconds against the throng of zombies before it shattered like a giant spider web.
Shards flew everywhere, and hordes of zombies rushed in, piling on top of one another like a small mountain.
Looking down, Su Mo immediately started running while shouting loudly to those upstairs, "Run faster!"
The building was filled with relentless footsteps mixed with the countless zombies’ roars.
Su Mo fired her gun as she ran downstairs, and when she ran out of bullets, she pulled out her Tang Blade, ready to fight.
Lu Chen even spread a layer of frost on the steps below to slow them down, the overuse of his superpower causing his complexion to pale noticeably.
Noticing this, Su Mo immediately tossed him a bottle of Jasmine Tea, "Have a drink."
Lu Chen took the bottle, and the sight of flower petals floating inside caused a dull pain in his mind.
It was a scene of him struggling to survive in the jungle, with that bottle of Jasmine Tea in his hand.
But why was he only recalling this memory now?
Seeing him pause and get lost in thought, Su Mo immediately stepped back, grabbed his hand, and dragged him upstairs, "What are you spacing out for?"
Lu Chen snapped back to reality, his eyes turning cold, "Did Jiang Residence strongly oppose us at the beginning?"
Su Mo was startled, "What are you thinking about this for now?"
She didn’t deny it, so his memories were indeed problematic.
Lu Chen looked downcast, his usually impassive face growing exceptionally stern.
Su Mo had no time to mull over his question and hastily pulled him up the stairs.
