The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 232 - 230: Charred Person

Chapter 232: Chapter 230: Charred Person

Jin Han awkwardly scratched his head, "I actually didn’t notice."

Even his teammates couldn’t help but give him a look of disdain.

Su Mo smiled and smoothly stowed all three vehicles into the System Bag.

Mo Yan’s team of superpower users couldn’t fit that many cars, and upon seeing this, Zhao Xiweng whispered a few words in his ear, and he ended up driving the lead car directly past Jin Han’s group to block their way ahead.

Zhao Changsheng, seeing the driver, immediately grew grim, pulling Su Mo behind her, "Momo, stay in the back, I’ve got this."

Because Su Mo now controlled the lifeline of the vehicles within Jin Han’s group, she had been immediately promoted to a key protection target.

She was surrounded in the middle, obviously of a high level yet still the one being protected, which made Su Mo somewhat bemused and frustrated.

When the two groups faced each other, there was a bit of a standoff, as if a fight might break out at any moment.

"Su Mo, can we talk for a minute?" Mo Yan called out to her from within the crowd, his eyes conveying a certain depth of feeling.

"You speak," Su Mo nodded but did not move.

"We would like to use your space superpower to store the cars," Zhao Xiweng emphasized the word ’space’ heavily.

"Dream on," Zhao Changsheng’s body crackled with a bit of electricity, her eyes showing a hint of irritation.

Su Mo pulled on her arm, dragging her slightly back, "Okay, but I have a small request."

"You say," Mo Yan’s expression softened further, even showing a bit of eagerness to please.

Su Mo smiled, extended one hand, and wiggled her fingers in front of him, "The food you guys found, split it fifty-fifty, one hand delivers the food, the other exchanges the cars."

Ai Yang, who had been silent until then, could no longer hold back and blurted with a mouth of broken teeth, "That’s a lion’s mouth wide open!"

"You can refuse. The hesitation is really annoying," Zhao Changsheng immediately glared with a pair of fox-like eyes, her imposing aura spreading out.

Her presence was in no way inferior to that of a Level 4 superpower user. Su Mo looked at her in surprise; no wonder Thunder Element users’ treatment improved with upgrades. At Level 3, her aura was nearly the same as hers, and upon leveling up, she would be on par with Lu Chen.

Li Qian timely spoke up from the side, "The minute is up, Captain Mo, if you disagree, please step aside and find someone else."

Jin Han interjected loudly, "You could ask Admiral Lu, he’s got more people."

This comment caused Lu Chen at the forefront to indeed turn his head back, his cold phoenix eyes sweeping over them.

Mo Yan’s fist suddenly tightened. He was quickly weighing the pros and cons in his heart. There were three groups, not counting his own and Jin Han’s, and the Fire Wolf Group opposite them was not to be trifled with.

Either leave the cars here or agree to Su Mo’s terms, otherwise, if the cars were taken, they wouldn’t be able to carry much food, and they’d end up with even less than planned.

But to ask for help from Lu Chen?

That was absolutely out of the question.

In the end, Mo Yan loosened his grip, his fiery eyes meeting Su Mo’s with a trace of sorrow, "I agree to your terms."

Su Mo smiled and nodded, "Just the two cars, right? Have everyone come out from them."

Subsequently, from the two cars, ten people got out, among them a tall woman who proactively came over to thank Su Mo, "My space isn’t as large, so I really appreciate your help."

Su Mo sized her up briefly; the other was similarly assessing her, but the goodwill and guilt in her eyes did not escape Su Mo’s notice. Right away, Su Mo patted her arm, "Don’t mention it, I’m glad to help share the workload that comes with the pay."

"It’s all because this woman’s space is too small," Ai Yang murmured audibly to Zhao Xiweng.

The latter did not speak, but his expression also agreed with what was said.

"My name is Ruo Lin," Ruo Lin, with no regard for the fragmented talk, extended her hand in a friendly gesture to Su Mo.

Su Mo responded in kind, touching the roughness and thin calluses on the woman’s palm—a sign of someone who often battled it out there.

Su Mo’s demeanor softened a bit, always valuing those who strived hard as she took their vehicle, and as she passed Mo Yan, she said to his displeased face, "You have a very good Space Superpower User."

As she spoke, she glanced briefly at Zhao Xiweng, her eyes brimming with undisguised mockery.

Zhao Xiweng’s heart skipped a beat, and his face immediately darkened.

Their five-minute break here had passed.

Most people were armed, and Lu Chen led the group deeper into the complex of buildings.

Rusted, abandoned vehicles obstructing the roads were a common sight, and the entire city was eerily silent, not even the cries of mutant birds could be heard.

As Su Mo passed by a charred and deserted bus, like a school bus that seemed to have burned down completely due to an accident before the apocalypse, she stopped.

The carbonized bodies sat blackened in the bus, reduced to nothing but a framework.

The skeletons didn’t look large; all were students. Seeing Su Mo pause, Zhao Changsheng went back, pulled her a bit, and she came back to her senses.

Looking down the road, she noticed not just that bus, but the entire area seemed to have been swept by a massive fire. Burnt bodies were thoroughly charred by the roadside, beneath broken street lamps, or sitting in private cars.

Unable to help herself, Su Mo asked Li Qian, "Li Qian, is there anything unusual about these things?"

Li Qian’s superpower morphed into silk threads that infiltrated every corner of the surrounding buildings as he walked and observed; "Currently, there are no zombies in this block."

"That’s strange," Jin Han remarked.

"Generally, this indicates there is a massive creature nearby that they dare not approach," Su Mo frowned—it wasn’t the first time they’d encountered such a situation.

"Let’s move on," Zhao Changsheng said as he stayed close to Su Mo, patting her on the back.

The group crossed the scorched area, but behind them, the charred people on the bus, their black mass of fused skin, slowly stretched, revealing purple veins within.

The sun hung high, casting a warm glow.

They reached the foot of a shopping mall, which housed a collection of consumer zones including food, clothes, beauty, and games, its scale was massive.

The entrance featured a huge circular fountain with an angel singing while cradling a harp standing in the center, its stony body splashed with dark dried blood.

"This entertainment city is really luxurious," Su Mo looked up at the towering skyscrapers.

"If you ignore the walls entwined with plants, it’s pretty good," Li Qian replied.

"Do you guys feel like it’s a huge pile of vomit plastered on the wall?"

Su Mo felt disgusted by Jin Han’s description. "That analogy is quite apt," she said.

They walked past the fountain to enter inside, where two massive fortified doors had already been shattered. Inside was pitch black with items from the shops on either side scattered all over the floor.

Jin Han’s Space Superpower User promptly pulled out several flashlights, distributed them, and they descended into the depths of the mall.

The place was as silent as death, and with the building being multistoried, a command was issued; they split into groups to explore each floor, communicating via walkie-talkies.
