Chapter 231: Chapter 229: Sheng City

Lu Chen stood not far away, dozens of Ice Blades all attacking the serpent’s head.

Su Mo knew that the key to striking a snake was its vital point, a timeless truth, but the serpent protected its vulnerabilities well.

Despite having its head pierced by over a dozen Ice Blades, it rapidly coiled around Su Mo, shielding its vital spot tightly.

Su Mo stood still, holding her blade, waiting for it to rear its head and lunge at her, which would be her best chance.

Seeing this, Lu Chen immediately rushed towards the python with a group of sharp crystals quickly forming in the air.

"Momo!" Zhao Changsheng arrived and his heart nearly stopped for a moment when he saw the woman surrounded in the middle.

Before Lu Chen could make his move, the dark sky filled with clouds and a thick bolt of lightning split the sky open, striking the serpent’s body, bypassing Lu Chen.

A burst of huge sparks exploded, the snake’s scales writhed, its flesh blurred and accompanied by a strong scorched smell.

This was the first time Su Mo had witnessed the power of Thunder, and the pained serpent exposed its usually hidden underside. Su Mo wouldn’t miss this great opportunity.

Su Mo, holding her Tang Blade, stepped on the serpent’s body and leapt up high, plunging the blade down along its vital area.

The python’s soft and unprotected vital spot was easily sliced open, its heart, long corrupted by the virus, fell out, and Lu Chen’s commanded crystals flew into the serpent’s body, splattering blood and flesh.

The immense serpent’s body heavily collapsed to the ground.

Su Mo went over and extracted its Crystal Stone, inspecting it in her hand—it was a power-type—and tossed the Crystal Stone into her System Bag.

As Lu Chen reached out to grab her, Su Mo had already vanished from the spot, leaving him grasping at air, his whole body cold as ice.

When Su Mo was beside Zhao Changsheng, she turned back and waved at the man with a smile, "Thank you, Admiral Lu."

She was obviously doing it on purpose, and Lu Chen, standing stiffly there, his hardened expression eventually softened with the curvature of his thin lips.

At their camping site, the snakes had also been mostly cleared, everyone had a big harvest, profiting from the wave of snakes, and some even collected the meat.

Since they were with Jin Han, all the crystal stones were to be handed over to him for final distribution. Su Mo didn’t care about that bit, the bigger prize was already in her bag, thus Li Qian straightforwardly passed all the dozen or so crystal stones in his hand over to him.

Their levels weren’t high after all, and they had no casualties.

As the sky began to lighten, the campfires were all put out, and they resumed their journey.

After a casual meal of biscuits, Su Mo was already missing the food she made herself. It was conspicuous for these several groups to light fires and cook together, so she leaned against the window and sighed.

After watching the endless mountain ranges and winding roads out the window for a while, Su Mo turned to Jin Han and asked, "Will we get there before dark?"

"Almost, if nothing unexpected happens we could actually get there in the afternoon," Jin Han said yawningly, since he hadn’t slept in the latter half of the night and they had set off as soon as it was a bit light, arriving early was normal.

Su Mo lay back against the window, they had not stopped all the way, and lunch had also been dealt with in the car. Approaching the afternoon, she finally saw the endless mountains of tea plantations.

The driver’s voice turned serious, "We’re almost there."

The walkie-talkie in the car relayed Lu Chen’s ice-cold voice, "Be ready to deal with the zombie horde at any moment, conserve energy entering the city."

Su Mo straightened her back, her gaze fixed ahead, knowing that after this mountain, Sheng City lay ahead.

Li Qian released his spiritual power but his expression was somewhat strange, "So far, I haven’t detected a single zombie."

"That’s not good news," Jin Han said from the front seat, his muscles tensing up.

Su Mo took out her Tang Blade and gently wiped the blade, "Maybe they’re all in the city."

"Highly likely," Li Qian nodded in agreement.

As the convoy descended the winding mountain road, Sheng City at the foot of the mountain gradually emerged.

Su Mo leaned against the car window, peering down at most of the city, where a tall landmark building had been half destroyed by something, and half the city lay hidden among a sea of green.

"Why are there so many plants?" she asked.

Jin Han had obviously noticed this unusual sight too, his tone clearly puzzled, "Is there so much material here?"

"We better not end up bringing back a tank of tea leaves," Zhao Changsheng sighed.

While Su Mo thought that taking tea leaves was not a bad idea, she believed that things wouldn’t be that simple. She lowered her gaze, pondering. Traveling all the way to Mountain City for resources, something about it felt strange. Clearly, those higher up were hiding something.

As the vehicle descended the mountain into the city, the surroundings were eerily quiet and soundless.

Lu Chen’s expression grew more and more solemn, but the report couldn’t be wrong. It was highly likely that the original entity had evolved to an unpredictably advanced level.

The entrance into the city was flanked by high-rise buildings covered in dense, green foliage that crept over them.

For a moment, Su Mo couldn’t make out what it was, but she could vaguely see it bursting through the windows, intertwined with some purple veins.

"What’s that?" she pointed at the slowly swaying building through the glass.

"We don’t have a botanist with us," said Jin Han, his expression, however, was one of shock.

The dense, entwined array of purple veins and leaves on the buildings was truly frightening.

The convoy ground to a halt, and Su Mo was the first to grip her Tang Blade, open the door, and step out. These purple-veined plants were everywhere, but the zombies were nowhere to be seen.

There were some sighs from around.

"Where have all the zombies gone?"

"I don’t know, but with this situation, they wouldn’t have been eaten by these plants, right?"

"It’s possible."

Hearing this, Su Mo also felt it wasn’t impossible. The place was full of strangeness. She immediately said to Zhao Changsheng and Li Qian, "Stay on high alert, man-eating plants aren’t out of the question."

The two nodded, all senses on guard.

Up front, Lu Chen got out of the vehicle and unfolded a map of Sheng City, "Is the location mentioned in the intelligence here?"

He pointed to a spot, and a soldier nearby leaned over, looked at it, and answered, "Yes, the latest shared location appeared here, then all signals disappeared."

Lu Chen fell silent. He looked up at the tightly packed high-rises. Despite this being a mountain city, their tourism industry had developed into prosperous splendor.

The prosperity here was on par with first-tier cities.

He pondered only for a moment before making a decision, "The vehicles are too loud. We’ll rest for five minutes and then proceed on foot."

The order was swiftly given.

Upon receiving the order, Jin Han felt a pang of difficulty, "I brought out a Space Superpower User to load up on food, but if we load up the vehicles, we won’t be able to fit anything else."

Hearing him say this, Su Mo volunteered, "I’ll carry it."

After all, her grid could hold five items of the same kind, and after dealing with the mutant gorilla, she had emptied two slots. There were still several grids empty.

"You’re a Dual Ability User?" Jin Han directed people to drive the vehicles forward while expressing his surprise at her.

Although in this age, Dual Ability Users were not unheard of, they were still quite rare among women.

Su Mo was momentarily at a loss for words, waving her Tang Blade, "What do you think allows me to shrink and expand at will?"

She had never hidden the fact that she possessed the Space superpower.
